SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.
All that area in the Southland Land District, containing by admeasurement 9 acres 2 roods 39 perches, more or less, being Section 40, Block IX, Waikaka Survey District. Bounded towards the north by Section 19, Block IX, Waikaka Survey District, 1204.95 links; towards the east by Section 19 aforesaid, 944.7 links; towards the south by Section 39 of said block, 857.7 links; and towards the west by a road, 1005.4 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. I/561, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. For a public recreation-ground.
Also all that area in the Southland Land District, containing by admeasurement 5 acres, more or less, being Section 42, Block IX, Waikaka Survey District. Bounded towards the north by Section 3, Block IX, Waikaka Survey District, 617.5 links; towards the east by Section 3 aforesaid, 809.7 links; towards the south by said Section 3, the abutment of a road, and again by said Section 3, 617.5 links; and towards the west by Section 3 aforesaid, 809.7 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. VI/5(12), deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. For gravel purposes.

Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.
LIVERPOOL, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-second day of March, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.
SCHEDULE.
AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.-SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Mangonui County.-Maungataniwha East Parish.
SECTIONS 32 and 33, with Section 8, Block VI, Maungataniwha Survey District: Area, 310 acres 1 rood 3 perches. Cash purchase: Total price, £370. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £9 5s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £7 8s.
Altitude, 450 ft. to 1,300 ft. above sea-level. Hilly to broken land, covered with rather heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, puriri, totara, taraire, rata, rewarewa, kohekohe, and a few scattered kauri trees, with thick undergrowth of pukapuka, mahoe, kotukutuku, houhere, hangehange, kiekie, punga, nikau, supplejack, &c. Fair soil, sandy clay and rubbly formation, stony in places, resting on sandstone formation; well watered by permanent streams. Distant six miles and a half from Peria, four miles and three-quarters of which is by formed and partly metalled cart-road, balance as yet unformed.

Altitude, 350 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to hilly land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, puriri, totara, taraire, rata, rewarewa, kohekohe, &c., with thick undergrowth of pukapuka, mahoe, kotukutuku, houhere, hangehange, kiekie, nikau, punga, supplejack, &c. Fair soil, of a sandy clay and rubbly nature, on sandstone formation;
well watered by streams. Distant five miles and a half to six miles and a half from Peria—four miles and three-quarters formed and partly metalled cart-road, balance unformed.
Sections M 8, E 8, and 9: Area, 122 acres 1 rood 20 perches. Cash purchase: Total price, £215. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £5 7s. 6d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £4 6s.
Altitude, 450 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to hilly land, except a few acres of river flat; all covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, puriri, totara, taraire, rata, rewarewa, kohekohe, &c., with thick undergrowth of pukapuka, mahoe, kotukutuku, houhere, hangehange, kiekie, punga, nikau, supplejack, &c. Soil of good quality, sandy and clayey loam, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant three miles from Peria—two miles and three-quarters formed road, balance unformed as yet.
Mangonui County.—Maungataniwha Survey District.
Section 7, Block VI: Area, 470 acres. Cash purchase: Total price, £650. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £16 5s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £13. Weighted with £10 10s., valuation for 7 acres felled and grassed.
Altitude, 200 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to hilly land; about 30 acres cleared and partly grassed, balance mixed forest comprising rimu, totara, puriri, rata, towai, taraire, tawa, kohekohe, rewarewa, &c., with thick undergrowth of kohutuhutu, karamu, mahoe, houhere, hangehange, kiekie, nikau, punga, supplejack, &c. Soil reddish clay and sandy clay of very fair quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant four miles and a half from Peria—three miles and a quarter formed cart-road, balance partly formed bridle-track requiring improvement.
Whangaroa County.—Whakapaku Parish.
Section 9: Area, 452 acres. Cash purchase: Total price, £230. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £5 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £4 12s.
Weighted with £195, valuation for improvements comprising iron shanty, grassing, fencing, clearing, &c.
Altitude, 200 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Level to hilly land; 24 acres in grass, 20 acres ordinary mixed forest, balance fern and scrub. Inferior clay soil, stony in places, on clay and sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant about eight miles from Mangonui—five miles formed coach-road, balance partly formed sledge or bridle track.
West Taupo County.—Mangaorongo Survey District.
Section 9, Block VIII: Area, 435 acres 2 roods 34 perches. Cash purchase: Total price, £870. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £21 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £17 8s.
Altitude, 500 ft. to 845 ft. above sea-level. Broken land, consisting of ridges running down from Pukemapou; covered with heavy fern and three small patches of mixed forest containing a few tawa and pukatea. Soil good brown loam, on volcanic formation; well watered by streams, swamps, and springs. Distant fifteen miles from Otorohanga Railway-station by formed wagon-road.
Rotorua County.—Maketu Survey District.
Section 5, Block XVI: Area, 494 acres. Cash purchase: Total price, £500. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £12 10s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £10.
Altitude, 400 ft. to 450 ft. above sea-level. Undulating fern land. Sandy soil of fair quality, on pumice formation; no water on section. Distant six miles from Paengaroa Township and four miles from Pongakawa Post-office by good formed roads.
Hokianga County.—Punakitere Survey District.
Section 1, Block XIV: Area, 502 acres 1 rood 12 perches. Cash purchase: Total price, £690. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £17 5s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £13 16s.
Section 10, Block XIV: Area, 545 acres 3 roods 15 perches. Cash purchase: Total price, £750. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £18 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £15.
Altitude, 250 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to hilly land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, kahikatea, totara, rata, miro, taraire, tawa, kohekohe, and a few unmarketable kauri trees, with a thick undergrowth of kohutuhutu, makomako, mahoe, karamu, punga, nikau, kiekie, and supplejack. Soil rubbly sandy clay and loam, of fair quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant thirteen miles from Kaikohe Railway-station by partly formed cart-road and bridle-track, and the same distance from Taheke by cart-road nearly to section.
