| Prohibitions.—Skins and plumage of wild birds, except ostrich feathers and bona fide natural history specimens; arms (except when repaired in this country or for the personal use of the addressee), and ammunition and utensils of war as merchandise, except by license or authority of the Governor; ganja, bhang, and substances containing them; parts, sent separately, of articles which are liable to Customs duty; goods liable to forfeiture under the Merchandise Marks Ordinance, 1888; opium, except by specially authorized public officer; spirits unfit for human consumption; pepper-plants from India, cacao-plants from Dutch East Indies, water-hyacinth plants. Tea-seeds from India and coconuts in husk are subject to restrictions. Observations.—No compensation is given for the loss or damage of parcels containing liquids, or for the damage of glass, eggs, collections of butterflies or articles of a fragile or perishable nature. The value of each kind of goods should be shown separately on the Customs Declaration. | Cayman Islands. |
| Prohibitions.—Arms and implements of war, and articles injurious to health. Plants may be accepted at sender’s risk for the present; bullion exceeding £5 in value. Observations.—Insured parcels for Chile are delivered only at the following offices: Ancud, Antofagasta, Arica, Caldera, Chillán, Concepcion, Coquimbo, Curicó, Iquique, La Serena, Linares, Los Andes, Pisagua, Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas, Rancagua, San Felipe, San Fernando, Santiago, Tacna, Talca, Talcahuano, Valdivia, and Valparaiso. Parcels must be packed with strong materials, preferably in tin boxes; parcels packed in paper only cannot be accepted. If an insured parcel be addressed to any other post-office in Chile, the addressee has to claim it at the nearest of the offices above named. | Ceylon. |
| Prohibitions.—Opium, morphia, morphine, cocaine, arms and ammunition, and salt. Observations.—Limits of size are 2 ft. in any direction, and the volume is not to exceed 1 cubic foot. Parcels, however, containing umbrellas, walking-sticks, charts, plans, and suchlike articles may be accepted if they do not exceed 3 ft. 3 in. in length and 8 in. in breadth or thickness. | Chile. |
| Same as China in last preceding entry. | China. |
| Prohibitions.—Same as China. Observations.—Parcels for the British Agencies in China are not transmissible at the rates mentioned in col. 3 unless they are addressed in such a way as to indicate that they are to be delivered at one of the towns at which there is a British agency—viz., Amoy, Canton, Cheefoo, Foochow, Hankow, Hoihow, Ningpo, Shanghai, Swatow, Tientsin, Wei-hai-wei (Liu-kung-tau). The presence in the address of the name of any other place before the name of one of these towns usually involves conveyance by the Chinese Post Office and prepayment at the rates specified under China. As an exception, parcels for the British Legation at Peking and for the British Field Forces in North China are handed over at the British Agency at Tientsin to the British Military Authorities, and are transmissible by this Service if addressed “c/o British Post Office, Tientsin.” | China (Yunnan Province only). |
| Prohibitions.—Via London: Opium, morphia, cocaine, bullion exceeding £5 in value, oilskins and similar goods. Via India: Same as Germany. Observations.—The places at which there are German Agencies, but not British Agencies, are: Nanking, Peking, Tschinkiang (Chinkiang), Tsinanfu, and Weihsien. Via India: Tschinkiang (Chinkiang), and Tsinanfu only. | China (British Agencies). |
| China (German Agencies). |
similar articles will be accepted up to a maximum of 3 ft. 3 in. in length, provided they breadth or thickness.
