Special Prohibitions and Observations.

Prohibitions.—Arms (except sporting rifles, revolvers, &c., with a permit from Austria for transit), and munitions of war; worn clothes and boots intended for sale; coin, bullion exceeding £5 in value; lottery tickets; playing cards; geranium oil; cotton oil and essence of vinegar (except under special conditions for industrial purposes); essence of wine, and alcohol from plums; adulterated beeswax; foreign products not provided with trade-marks or which bear the trade-mark of a manufacturer residing in Bulgaria; unauthorized weights and measures; parts of the vine; tools used in vine-culture; wine, must, raisins, various vegetables, hay, manure, nuts (unless accompanied by a phylloxera certificate). Observations.—Parcels must be sealed with a distinctive seal. If paper is used for packing it must be linen-faced. The importation of dyes, medicines, and poisonous drugs, wax candles, fishing-nets, cigarette-papers, fruit-trees, plants, and shrubs is subject to special conditions. To expedite the passage through the Customs, parcels for Bulgaria may be accompanied by an invoice, the address label and each copy of the Customs declaration being marked “Facture incluse,” to indicate that an invoice is sent. Bulgaria.
Prohibitions.—Plants requiring special care during transit, arms and ammunition intended for the use of the Natives, bullion exceeding £5 in value, oilskins and similar goods. Observations.—Insurance confined to parcels for the Towns of Duala (Cameroons), Kribi, and Victoria. Burmah. Cameroons.
Prohibitions.—Oleomargarine, butterine, and similar substitutes for butter, butter “remade”; adulterated tea; prison-made goods; trade labels in metal; potatoes, all nursery stock, including trees, shrubs, plants, vines, grafts, scions, cuttings, or buds. Parcels containing greenhouse-grown florists’ stock, cut flowers, herbaceous perennials and bedding plants are, however, admitted if accompanied by a detailed statement of the contents. Observations.—Parcels addressed to places in the Yukon district north of White Horse, where the railway terminates, cannot be accepted during the winter months—approximately October to May inclusive. Parcels intended for places beyond the railway may, however, be accepted if they are addressed to White Horse and are marked for conveyance thence to destination by private carrier, the necessary arrangements for their onward transmission being made by and at the expense of the senders or addressees. All parcels are conveyed in ordinary mail-bags, and, to prevent injury, should be very strongly packed. No compensation is paid in respect of loss or damage of parcels or their contents. In respect of all parcels of merchandise the addressee must submit to the Customs authorities at the port of destination certified invoices in duplicate in the form prescribed by them. These invoices must be forwarded by the sender separately from the parcels. Greatest length, 2 ft.; greatest depth or width, 1 ft. Canada.
Prohibitions.—Same as Portugal, with the exception of tobacco, which is not prohibited. Observations.—Insurance confined to parcels for St. Vincent and Praia (Island of Santiago). Cape of Good Hope. Cape Verde Islands.
{ Prohibitions.—Worn clothing, bullion exceeding £5 in value, oilskins and similar goods. Observations.—Opium (except for medicinal purposes) and arms and munitions of war (except for the use of persons other than Natives) are admitted only with the special authority of the Government. } Caroline Islands.
