3312 THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE. [No. 91

1° 6 1/4' E. (a.) Light.—Details: The revolving white light
has been replaced by a flashing white light every thirty seconds,
vis. 10 miles, showing thus, flash 1 1/2 secs., eclipse 28 1/2 secs.
Remarks: The lantern is at the masthead, and will serve as
a daymark in lieu of the former ball; the other details remain
unchanged.

                            MEDITERRANEAN.—EGYPT.

SUEZ CANAL.—INTENDED INCREASE IN MAXIMUM DRAUGHT
OF VESSELS PASSING THROUGH.—Date: On and after 1st
January, 1915. Position: Port Said, lat. 31° 16' N., long.
32° 19' E. Details: On and after the above date, the maxi-
mum draught of vessels passing through the Suez Canal
will be increased to 30 ft. Remarks: The following note
has been inserted on Charts Nos. 3214 and 234, and the two
notes on Chart No. 233 corrected accordingly—"Vessels
of 29 ft. draught are permitted to pass through the canal;
this will be increased to 30 ft. in January, 1915."

          FORMOSA, WEST COAST.—PESCADORES CHANNEL.

ONKAN TAI (WANKAN BANK).—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—
Position: On Pinboisoa Sandbank, at a distance of about
one mile from its northern end. Lat. 23° 31' 30'' N., long.
120° 2' 2'' E., on Chart No. 2409. Details: Character—a
flashing white light every two seconds. Elevation—58 ft.
Visibility—13 miles. Power—800 candles. Structure—black
framework, 50 ft. in height to centre of lantern. Remarks:
The light is unwatched.

                               INDIA, WEST COAST.

CAPE MONZE (RAS MUARI).—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Posi-
tion:
On the low land of the cape about a mile to the
south-eastward of the north-west extreme. Lat. 24°
49' 40'' N., long. 66° 39' 55'' E., on Chart No. 41.
Details: Character—a group flashing white light showing
a group of two flashes every ten seconds, thus, flash, 0·3 sec.,
eclipse, 2·5 secs.; flash, 0·3 sec., eclipse, 6·9 secs. Elevation—
150 ft. Visibility—18 miles, from 277° (N. 85° W. mag.),
through north, to 138° (S. 44° E. mag.). Order—1st. Struc-
ture—a concrete tower painted with black and white bands.
Note: The note "Lt. Ho. established 1914, not shown" has
been inserted below Cape Monze in the view on Chart No. 41.
Variation: 2° E.

BUENOS AIRES.—DETAILS OF WIRELESS TIME-SIGNAL.—
Position: North Basin Signal-station, lat. 34° 35 1/2' S., long.
58° 22' W. Details: This station transmits wireless time-
signals at 23 h. 56 m., 23 h. 58 m., and 0 h. 0 m., Cordova
mean time, corresponding to 4 h. 12 m. 48·2 s., 4 h. 14 m. 48·2 s.,
and 4 h. 16 m. 48·2 s. Greenwich mean time respectively,
thus :—

LIGHTS EXTINGUISHED.—Details: All lights on the Pacific
Coast of Mexico have been extinguished.

                CENTRAL AMERICA, WEST COAST.—NICARAGUA.

CORINTO HARBOUR, CARDON ISLAND.—ALTERATION IN
CHARACTERISTICS OF LIGHT.—Position: On Cardon Head.
Lat. 12° 28' N., long. 87° 12 1/4' W. Details: The fixed white
light has been replaced by a light having the undermentioned
characteristics : Character—a flashing white light every three
seconds, showing thus, flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 0·7 sec. Eleva-
tion—87 ft. Visibility—14 miles. Power—1,010 candles.
Remarks: The light is unwatched. "Unreliable," formerly
shown against this light on the charts, has been expunged ;
the other details remain unchanged.

                ENGLAND, SOUTH COAST.—PORTSMOUTH APPROACH.

OWERS LIGHT-VESSEL.—FURTHER DETAILS WITH REGARD
TO WRECK SOUTHWARD OF.—Position: At a distance of
1 1/8 miles, 170° (S. 5° W. mag.), from Owers light-vessel.
Lat. 50° 35 3/4' N., long. 0° 40 1/4' W. Description: Wreck of
s.s. "Carbineer," over which there is a least depth of 10 fa-
thoms. Remarks: A depth of 10 fathoms surrounded by
a danger line, and marked "Wreck (1914) (position approxi-
mate)," has been placed on the charts in the above position.

                          CHINA, SOUTH-EAST COAST.

HONGKONG HARBOUR.—EXTENSION OF COALING CAMBER.
Position: Coaling camber, lat. 22° 18 1/4' N., long. 114° 10' E.

Details: A red light has been established on the head of the
new arm, and the former green light has been discontinued.

                             SUMATRA, SOUTH COAST.

TELOK BETONG.—LIGHT TO BE DISCONTINUED.—Date of
discontinuance:
1st July, 1914. Position: At a distance of
about 440 yards, north-eastward from the new pier. Lat.
5° 27' S., long. 105° 16 1/4' E. Description: A flashing white
light. Remarks: The light has been expunged from the
charts. Note: No further notice will be given.

                                BBITISH COLUMBIA.

STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—ACTIVE PASS.—GOSSIP SHOALS.—
SUBMARINE BELL-BUOY ESTABLISHED.—Notice is given that
a submarine bell-buoy, painted black, has been established
200 ft. 193° from Gossip Shoals bell-buoy, Active Pass,
Strait of Georgia, British Columbia.

The buoy is cylindrical in shape and the submarine bell is
actuated by the motion of the buoy on the waves.

Approx. position : Lat. 48° 53' 20'' N., long. 123° 18' 16'' W.

BURRARD INLET.—SPANISH BANK.—SUBMARINE BELL-
BUOY ESTABLISHED.—Notice is given that a submarine bell-
buoy, painted red, has been established 200 ft. 85° from Grey
Point gas and bell buoy, off Spanish Bank, entrance to Burrard
Inlet, Strait of Georgia, British Columbia.

The buoy is cylindrical in shape and the submarine bell is
actuated by the motion of the buoy on the waves.

Approx. position : Lat. 49° 17' 15'' N., long. 123° 15' W.

VANCOUVER HARBOUR.—BURNABY SHOAL.—LIGHT AND
FOG-BELL ESTABLISHED.—FLOAT DISCONTINUED.—A red
wooden platform beacon, supported on wooden piles and
surmounted by a steel tripod carrying a light and fog-bell,
has been established in 15 ft. of water on Burnaby Shoal,
Vancouver Harbour, British Columbia, on the bearings—

   Foot of Bute Street .. .. .. 220° 40'
   Burkton Point     .. .. .. 306° 50'

The light is an unwatched fixed red incandescent electric
light.

The fog-bell is operated by electricity, and sounds 2 strokes
in quick succession every 5 seconds.

The wooden platform buoy carrying a light and fog-bell,
heretofore moored on the eastern edge of Burnaby Shoal, has
been withdrawn.

VANCOUVER ISLAND.—EAST COAST.—SIDNEY.—LIGHT
ESTABLISHED.—A 6th-order fixed red electric light of 100
candle-power has been established on the north-eastern end
of the Government Wharf at Sidney, east coast of Vancouver
Island.

The light is exhibited from a pole.

Approx. position : Lat. 48° 38' 55'' N., long. 123° 23'
28'' W.

SOUTH-WEST COAST.—OBSTRUCTION ISLAND.—ROCKY PASS
—BEACON ESTABLISHED.—The Canadian Government has
given notice that a white beacon 18 ft. high, consisting of a
square concrete base surmounted by a staff carrying a square
wooden slat-work target, has been erected on the rock in the
middle of Rocky Pass, Obstruction Island, south-west coast of
Vancouver Island.

Approx. position : Lat. 49° 23' 10'' N., long. 126° 6' 9'' E.

STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—NANAIMO HARBOUR APPROACH.—
SNAKE ISLAND REEF.—BELL-BUOY REPLACED.—Referring to
Notice to Mariners No. 23 (1855) of 1914, the Canadian
Government has given further notice that the bell-buoy
marking the southern end of the reef, southward of Snake
Island, Nanaimo Harbour approach, British Columbia, which
was carried away by the sea, has been replaced in position.

Approx. position : Lat. 49° 12' 14'' N., long. 123° 53' 2'' W.

VANCOUVER ISLAND.—SAANICH INLET.—WHITE ROCKS.
—BUOY ESTABLISHED.—A black wooden spar buoy has been
established about 600 yards south-westward of White Rocks,
Saanich Inlet, Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
