Authorizing the Laying-off of Bell and Carter Streets, in the Town of Hillersden, of a Width of not less than 66 ft.

IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 15 of the Land Act, 1908, I hereby authorize the laying-off of Bell and Carter Streets, in the Town of Hillersden, Marlborough Land District, of a width of not less than 66ft. instead of 99 ft.

Arrangements for First Election, &c., Waiuku Town District, County of Franklin.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint WILLIAM JOSEPH KING, of Waiuku, to be the Returning Officer to conduct the first election of five members of the Board of Commissioners of the Waiuku Town District, as constituted under the Town Boards Act, 1908; also to appoint Wednesday, the 16th day of September, 1914, to be the day, and the Road Board Office, Waiuku, to be the place, at which such first election shall be held; and also to appoint Tuesday, the 22nd day of September, 1914, at two o'clock in the afternoon, to be the time, and the said Road Board Office, Waiuku, to be the place, at which the first meeting of the Board of Commissioners so elected shall be held.

Appointment of Officers of the New Zealand Staff Corps.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Chemists' Shops in the Borough of Hamilton under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists' shops in the Borough of Hamilton, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 6 p.m.; Wednesday, 1 p.m., opening again from 7 to 8.30 p.m.; Saturday, 9.30 p.m.: all public holidays, 8.30 p.m.:

And whereas the Hamilton Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists' shops within the borough;

Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 31st day of August, 1914, all chemists' shops in the Borough of Hamilton shall be closed on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 6 p.m.; except on days generally observed in the borough as public holidays, when the hour shall be 8.30 p.m.; on Saturdays at 9.30 p.m.; on Wednesdays, 8.30 p.m.

The statutory half-holiday is on Wednesday from 1 p.m., on which day these shops may reopen from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. for the sole purpose of supplying medicine and surgical appliances which are urgently required.

DUNEDIN CITY COUNCIL.

Loan of £30,000 for Tramway Purposes.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the City of Dunedin taken on Wednesday, the 12th day of August, 1914, on a proposal to raise a loan of £30,000 for tramway purposes, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 698, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 867; informal votes, 26.

I therefore declare that the said proposal was lost.

In the matter of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

I HEREBY give notice that on the 4th of August, 1914, a proposal was submitted by the Waimarino County Council to the ratepayers of the Parapara No. 3 Special-rating District of the Waimarino County for raising a special loan of £2,750 for metalling the Parapara-Raetihi Road, as defined on the voting-paper in connection therewith. And that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the proposal was as follows: For, 19; against, 0.

And I declare the said proposal to be carried.

In the matter of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1913.

I HEREBY give notice that on the 29th of July, 1914, a proposal was submitted by the Waimarino County Council to the ratepayers of the Parapara No. 1 Special-rating District of the Waimarino County for raising a special loan of £2,000 for metalling the Wanganui-Parapara-Raetihi Road, as defined on the voting-paper in connection therewith. And that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the proposal was as follows: For, 14; against, 0.

And I declare the said proposal to be carried.
