A candidate who has passed either the first or second section and has gained at least a partial pass in the other of these two sections may receive credit for a pass in the third section if he satisfies all the requirements of the group constituting that section, or may receive credit for a partial pass in the third section if he fails in one subject only of that section, in which case he may complete the section at any time by passing in that subject.

A candidate will be regarded as having obtained a partial pass for Class D if at any time he has fulfilled the requirements of the examination for Class D, except in respect of not more than two of the subjects prescribed; provided that any such subjects shall not include either English or Mathematics I. When a candidate has obtained a partial pass for Class D he may at any time complete the examination by taking the deficient subjects and obtaining credit for them either together or separately.

Except as otherwise prescribed by these regulations in connexion with records of partial success, no recognition may at any time be given in the examination to less than a complete group of subjects; provided that, in the case of a subject or subjects the examination for which is taken at a different time from the ordinary examination, or is held under special conditions not applicable to the general examination, any such subject may, at the discretion of the Inspector-General of Schools, be at any time credited to a candidate towards the requirements of the examination. In general, the unit of the examination shall be the group, not the individual subjects of the group.
IV. As to clause 29 thereof, by inserting, after the words “passes the Matriculation Examination of the University of New Zealand,” the words “or is recorded as having obtained a partial pass in such examination.”
V. As to clause 33 thereof, by deleting the clause and substituting therefor the following:—
- With every application to be examined for or towards Class D the following entrance fees shall be payable by the candidate in the manner specified in clause 18 of the regulations:—
(a.) For the whole of the Class D examination taken at one time, or for the first section of Class D, or for the first and second sections taken together: A fee of £1.
(b.) For every other entry permitted by the regulations, not being an entry in a single subject as required for the completion of a section or towards the completion of the examination: A fee of 10s.
(c.) For every entry in a single subject as permitted by the regulations: A fee of 5s.
VI. As to clause 35 thereof, by deleting the words “for the First Section of,” and substituting the words “and the clauses following for.”
VII. As to clause 36 thereof, by inserting the word “or” at the end of paragraph (b), and adding the following paragraph:—
(c.) In any four subjects, if the candidate already holds a certificate of Class D, or if he has already passed the Class D examination or an examination equivalent thereto in one of the subjects of experimental science named in Group IV, Division I, of the Class D schedule.
VIII. As to clause 38 thereof, by deleting the clause and substituting therefor the following:—
- A candidate entering for Class C, and either wholly or partially successful in Part I of the examination only, may be credited with corresponding success towards the examination for Class D as if he had originally entered for the Class D examination.
IX. As to clause 39 thereof, by deleting the words “who have obtained the First Section of Class D,” and substituting therefor the following: “who have passed for the first and second sections of Class D.”
X. As to clause 41 thereof, by deleting all the words after the words “Board of Education, London,” and substituting therefor the following: “of an equivalent or higher standard, or the certificate of the City and Guilds of London Institute, for that subject or for a subject of cognate character that in the judgment of the Inspector-General of Schools is for the purpose of the examination equivalent thereto; provided that in cases where in the corresponding subject a certificate of practical work is prescribed by the regu-
