BOROUGH OF HASTINGS.
RESULT OF LOAN POLL FOR £68,250.
NOTICE is hereby given that a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Hastings, including all other persons entitled to vote on proposals to raise loans, was duly taken on Wednesday, the 18th day of February, 1914, upon the following proposal: A proposal to borrow, by way of special loan within the meaning of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, and its amendments, the sum of £68,250, to be expended in the construction and provision of the following works and things:—
(1.) Streets improvement, footpaths, street-making, machinery, and buildings, plant, and contingencies .. .. .. .. £ 30,675
(2.) Water extensions and contingencies .. 12,000
(3.) Sewer extensions and contingencies .. 13,400
(4.) Electric-light extensions and contingencies .. 8,925
65,000
The cost of raising the loan and the interest for the first year .. .. .. .. 3,250
Total .. .. .. .. £68,250
The loan will be appropriated to the above works in the proportions above specified, including the repayment to the general account of advances made for the above-mentioned purposes.
It is proposed to pay out of the loan the cost of raising the loan and the interest for the first year.
The Council proposes to pledge a special rate of 1 2/9d. in the pound on the rateable value (on the basis of the unimproved value) of all rateable property in the borough as security for the said loan and the interest thereon, and for the provision of a sinking fund of 1 per cent. The rate of interest will not exceed 5 per cent. per annum.
It is proposed that the amount of the loan shall be repayable at the expiration of a term not exceeding 36½ years, computed from the date of raising the loan.
And at such poll the number of votes recorded was: For the proposal, 696; against the proposal, 80; informal votes, 30.
I do therefore hereby declare the said proposal to be carried.

NOTICE is hereby given that a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Hastings, including all other persons entitled to vote on proposals to raise loans, was duly taken on Wednesday, the 18th day of February, 1914, upon the following proposal: A proposal to borrow, by way of a special loan within the meaning of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, and its amendments, the sum of £29,300, to be expended in the erection of the following buildings, &c.:—
Municipal theatre (fronting Hastings Street), offices (fronting Hastings and Heretaunga Streets), shops, hall, &c. (fronting Heretaunga Street) .. .. .. .. £ 27,500
Cost of raising the loan and the interest for the first year .. .. .. .. 1,800
Total.. .. .. .. £29,300
It is proposed to pay out of the loan the cost of raising the loan and the interest for the first year.
The Council proposes to pledge a special rate of 17/32d. in the pound on the rateable value (on the basis of the unimproved value) of all rateable property in the borough as security for the said loan and the interest thereon, and for the provision of a sinking fund of 1 per cent. The rate of interest will not exceed 5 per cent. per annum.
It is proposed that the whole amount of the loan shall be repayable at the expiration of a term not exceeding 36½ years, computed from the date of raising the loan.
And at such poll the number of votes recorded was: For the proposal, 632; against, 146; informal votes, 28.
I do therefore hereby declare the said proposal to be carried.

PATEA HARBOUR BOARD.
RESULT OF POLL.
I HEREBY give you notice that the number of votes recorded upon the taking of the poll on the eleventh day of February, 1914, to borrow, by way of special loan, the sum of £86,000 for the purpose hereunder set forth:—
Purposes for which the loan is required—
(a.) Extension of Eastern Pier.
(b.) Construction of a sluicing dam in the Patea River.
(c.) The construction of a barrage at the heads.
(d.) The construction of certain harbour-works as defined by section 2 of the Harbour Amendment Act, 1910, and also in the purchase, erection, and construction of all such tugs, dredges, cranes, sheds, works, and appliances for the improvement of the Patea Harbour as are deemed necessary and proper for the construction of such harbour-works, and for the safety, convenience, or reception of vessels resorting to the said harbour, and for more convenient loading and unloading of such vessels, and protection of existing works and of the proposed works, and for providing proper access to and from the same (£86,000)

UPPER HUTT TOWN BOARD.
RESOLUTION MAKING SPECIAL RATE.
IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, the Upper Hutt Town Board hereby resolves as follows:—
That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of eleven hundred pounds (£1,100), being 10 per cent. additional on a loan of eleven thousand pounds (£11,000) authorized to be raised by a poll of ratepayers taken on the 18th day of September, 1912, for the purpose of constructing and establishing waterworks for the Town District of Upper Hutt, the said loan of £11,000 having proved insufficient for the purposes for which it was raised, the said Board hereby makes and levies a special rate of seven forty-eights of a penny in the pound on the rateable value (on the basis of the unimproved value) of all rateable property in the Upper Hutt Town District, comprising the whole of the said district; and that such special rate shall be an annually recurring rate and be payable half-yearly on the 1st days of May and November in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty (40) years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
The above is a true copy of a resolution passed by the Upper Hutt Town Board at a meeting held on the 16th day of February, 1914.

WHAKATANE COUNTY COUNCIL.
RESOLUTION MAKING SPECIAL RATE AS SECURITY FOR LOAN OF £1,228 16s. FOR WORKS IN THE WAIMANA RIDING.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on it in that behalf by the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908, and its amendments, the Whakatane County Council hereby resolves as follows:—
That, for the purpose of providing interest and sinking fund and other charges on a loan of £1,228 16s., authorized to be raised by the Whakatane County Council, under the provisions of the above-mentioned Acts for—(1) metalling and improving Waimana Gorge Road from boundary of Omataroa and Waimana Ridings to where the deviations leave the river, £400; (2) metalling and improving Waimana Gorge Road deviations from finger-post at Mrs. Healey’s to Mr. E. S. Addison’s property, £140; (3) widening, metalling, culverting, and improving Low’s Road, £50; (4) widening, metalling, culverting, and improving Hodge’s Road, £50; (5) bridges, culverts, and improving Bell’s Road, £100; (6) clearing,
