NOBEL COMMITTEE OF THE NORWEGIAN PARLIAMENT.
Nobel Peace Prize.
ALL proposals of candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize, which is to be distributed December 10th, 1915, must, in order to be taken into consideration, be laid before the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament by a duly qualified person before the 1st of February of the same year.
Any one of the following persons is held to be duly qualified: (a) Members and late members of the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament, as well as the advisers appointed at the Norwegian Nobel Institute; (b) members of Parliament and members of Government of the different States, as well as members of the Interparliamentary Union; (c) members of the International Arbitration Court at the Hague; (d) members of the Commission of the Permanent International Peace Bureau; (e) members and associates of the Institute of International Law; (f) university professors of political science and of law, of history, and of philosophy; and (g) persons who have received the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Peace Prize may also be accorded to institutions or associations.
According to the Code of Statutes, § 8, the grounds upon which any proposal is made must be stated, and handed in along with such papers and other documents as may therein be referred to.
According to § 3, every written work, to qualify for a prize, must have appeared in print.
For particulars, qualified persons are requested to apply to the office of the Nobel Committee of the Norwegian Parliament, Drammensvei 19, Kristiania.

Arrangements for First Election, &c., Freshfield Drainage District.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint
THOMAS BAKER INSOLL,
of Hamilton East, to be Returning Officer and the person to prepare roll of electors for the purposes of the first election of five members of the Board of Trustees of the Freshfield Drainage District as constituted under the Land Drainage Act, 1908; also to appoint Thursday, the 14th day of January, 1915, to be the day, and the Waikato County Office, Hamilton East, to be the place, at which such first election shall be held; also to appoint Monday, the 25th day of January, 1915, at 10 o’clock in the forenoon, to be the time, and the said Waikato County Office, Hamilton East, to be the place, at which the first meeting of the Board of Trustees so elected shall be held.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Boot, Shoe, and Slipper Retailers’ Shops in the City of Auckland, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the boot, shoe, and slipper retailers’ shops in the City of Auckland, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: 6 o’clock p.m. on four days of the week, 1 o’clock p.m. on the day of the statutory half-holiday, 9.30 o’clock p.m. on Friday, 11 o’clock p.m. on the evening preceding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and 9 o’clock p.m. on the evening preceding Anniversary Day, Good Friday, the King’s Birthday, and Labour Day; provided that where an entire holiday occurs during the week the closing-hour on Saturday shall be 6 o’clock p.m.:
And whereas the Auckland City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the boot, shoe, and slipper retailers’ shops within the city:
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 21st day of December, 1914, all the boot, shoe, and slipper retailers’ shops in the City of Auckland shall be closed at 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, at 9.30 p.m. on Fridays, and in the case of any shopkeeper whose shop is closed for the whole of any day (other than Saturday) which is generally observed as a public holiday the hour of closing on Saturday shall be 6 p.m.; provided that on the working-day evenings preceding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day the hour shall be 11 p.m., and on the working-day evenings preceding the Anniversary Day of the Auckland Province, Good Friday, the King’s Birthday, and Labour Day the hour shall be 9 p.m. (except on Fridays).
The notice gazetted on 24th October, 1912, fixing the closing-hours of all such shops in the city is hereby cancelled accordingly.
NOTE.—The statutory half-holiday is on Saturday from 1 p.m.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the boot and shoe dealers’ shops in the City of Wellington, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, 6 p.m.; Tuesdays, 6 p.m.; Wednesdays, 1 p.m.; Thursdays, 6 p.m. Fridays, 6 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 p.m.:
And whereas the Wellington City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the boot and shoe dealers’ shops within the city:
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 21st day of December, 1914, all boot and shoe dealers’ shops in the City of Wellington shall be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m.
NOTE.—The statutory half-holiday is on Wednesday from 1 p.m.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the Wairoa Riding of Wallace County, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all shops in the riding shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 6 p.m.; Wednesday, 1 p.m.; Saturday, 9 p.m.:
And whereas the Wallace County Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops within the Wairoa Riding of Wallace County:
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 21st day of December, 1914, all shops in the Wairoa Riding of Wallace County shall be closed at 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and at 9 p.m. on Saturdays.
