Applications invited for the Position of Director of the Dominion Museum, Wellington.

  1. A PPLICATIONS will be received up till noon on the 19th December, 1913, for the position of Director of the Dominion Museum, Wellington.

  2. Applications must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  3. Applicants must have a general knowledge of the various fields of science, especially ethnology.

  4. Previous experience in museum work is desirable.

  5. Salary to commence £550, rising to £800. Professional Division.

  6. Appointment to be subject to the Public Service Act, 1912.

Applications invited for the Position of District Storekeeper, Public Works Department, Christchurch.

A PPLICATIONS will be received at the above office, up till noon on the 5th proximo, for the position of District Storekeeper, Public Works Department, Christchurch. Applications should be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, and should be made on forms obtainable from the Permanent Head, Public Works Department.

The position will be graded in the Clerical Division, Class VII; maximum, £220. The officer selected, if not already drawing the maximum salary, will be treated as promoted and receive a double increment.

The Public Service Classification and Superannuation Amendment Act, 1908. — Election of Member of Teachers’ Superannuation Board to fill an Extraordinary Vacancy.

N OTICE is hereby given that an election will be held for the purpose of electing a member of the Teachers’ Superannuation Board to fill an extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. Herbert Glanville Cousins, a representative of the contributors resident in the North Island. Notice is further given that—

(a.) The said election will be held on Monday, the 5th day of January, 1914, at the office of the Education Department, Wellington.

(b.) The poll will be closed at 5 o’clock p.m.

(c.) Nominations will close on Tuesday, the 16th day of December, 1913, at 5 o’clock p.m.

T HE following astronomical tables are published for general information. They give the New Zealand Standard mean time when the sun is on the meridian of the Hector Observatory, Wellington, and the sun’s apparent right ascension at apparent noon, Wellington. The adopted position of the transit instrument at the Hector Observatory is latitude 41° 17′ 3·8″ south and longitude 11 h. 39 m. 4·3 s. east of Greenwich.

The Land-tax and Income-tax Act, 1913.

B Y Order in Council made and issued by His Excellency the Governor in Council on the 20th day of October ultimo, under the authority of the above Act, it was determined that the respective duties by way of land-tax leviable under the said Act should be paid in one sum on Tuesday, the 2nd day of December, 1913, at the office of the Commissioner of Taxes, Government Buildings, Wellington; and, in accordance with such Order in Council, I hereby give notice that the said duties will be payable accordingly.
