Minister’s Decisions under Customs Duties Act.

Department of Trade and Customs, Wellington, 5th November, 1913.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Hon. the Minister of Customs has decided to interpret the Customs Duties Act in relation to the undermentioned articles as follows:—

NOTE.—“Not otherwise enumerated” appears as n.o.e.; “other kinds” as o.k.; “articles and materials suited only for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication of goods in the Dominion” as a. & m.s. Articles marked thus † are revised decisions.

General Tariff.
3/23/2 A. & m.s., viz.:—
Ball races, ball thrust washers, or ball bearings, Hoffman’s or similar pattern As a. & m.s. (482) Free.
†3/4/5 Coal-vase fittings, viz.: Metal handles, hinges, knobs, stars, and straps
14/3 Lenses, diverging, for searchlights As tinsmiths’ fittings (423) Free.
†3/4/4 Bucket handles, and bails, specially suited for use as tinsmiths’ fittings
2/33/6 Electric appliances, viz.:—
Hot-air blower, consisting of electric motor, fan, switch and resistance, enclosed in aluminium casing As electric appliances n.o.e. (176) 20 per cent. 10 per cent.
2/35 Master vibrators As n.o.e. (483) Free.
13/18 Flannelette clippings for cleaning rifles
18/3 Machines, printing, viz.:—
Rubber brands used in bag-printing machine As parts of printing-machines (166) 5 per cent. 10 per cent.
3/50 Machinery n.o.e., viz.:—
Coin counting and wrapping machine As machinery n.o.e (182) 20 per cent. 10 per cent.
13/17 Organs, action work for (Tariff Item 326), to include carillons, being steel rods or tubes for producing sounds like those of bells, of sizes suitable for organ-building
13/15 “Weather indicator,” being a toy house with two figures, one indicating rain and the other fair weather As fancy goods (127) 20 per cent.
3/48 Wooden yardsticks, flat As woodenware n.o.e. (201) 20 per cent.

NOTE.—The following decision in Minister’s Order No. 1057, of 8/10/13, is cancelled: “Suit-cases of matting, leather-bound and with leather handles, as portmanteaux (107).”
