Consent under Section 298 of the Native Land Act, 1909.

IN pursuance of the power conferred upon the Native Minister by subsection (b) of section 298 of the Native Land Act, 1909, I, William Herbert Herries, Native Minister, acting on the recommendation of the Waiariki District Maori Land Board, do hereby consent to a lease of Ngatipahiko B No. 4 Block, containing 50 acres, situated in the Provincial District of Auckland, subject to the same restrictions and to the same requirements as to confirmation and otherwise as if the said land was not subject to Part XVI of the Native Land Act, 1909.

As witness my hand, this 12th day of July, 1913.

Accession of His Majesty’s Government in respect of New Zealand to the International Maritime Conventions relating to Collisions and Salvage.

THE following despatch, which has been received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, notifying the accession of His Majesty’s Government in respect of New Zealand to the International Maritime Conventions relating to collisions and salvage, is published for general information.

MY LORD,—With reference to Your Excellency’s telegram of the 2nd May, I have the honour to transmit to you for the information of your Ministers a copy of a note addressed by His Majesty’s Minister at Brussels to the Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs notifying the accession of His Majesty’s Government in respect of New Zealand to the International Maritime Conventions relating to collisions and salvage.

MONSIEUR LE MINISTRE,—In accordance with instructions received from His Britannic Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, I have the honour to declare that His Majesty’s Government accede for the Dominion of New Zealand to the International Conventions, signed at Brussels on the 23rd of September, 1910, for the unification of certain rules of law respecting collisions between vessels and assistance and salvage at sea.

Appointing Picton a Port at which Customhouse Agents must be licensed.

IN exercise of the power in me for this purpose vested by the Customs Law Act, 1908, I, the Minister of Trade and Customs, do hereby appoint and declare that the Port of Picton shall be a port at which persons acting as agents in the entry or clearance of ships, goods, or baggage, or in any business relating thereto, shall be required to be duly licensed for that purpose.

Small-pox.—Notice regulating Movements of Maoris.

Department of Public Health, Hospitals, and Charitable Aid, Wellington.

WHEREAS certain places situated in Auckland, Wellington, and Hawke’s Bay Health Districts are, or are supposed to be, infected with a dangerous infectious disease, to wit, small-pox: And whereas the said disease is specially prevalent amongst the Maoris and half-caste Maoris residing in the said districts :

Now, therefore, I, Thomas Harcourt Ambrose Valintine, Chief Health Officer under the Public Health Act, 1908, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by section 18 of the said Act, and acting under the authority of His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, do hereby until further notice forbid Maoris or half-caste Maoris to be brought by means of the New Zealand Government railways from any place situated within the Auckland, Wellington, and Hawke’s Bay Health Districts to any other place situated within any of the said districts, or from any place situated in the said Auckland, Wellington, or Hawke’s Bay Health Districts to any other place in New Zealand, unless such Maori or half-caste Maori produces a certificate under the hand of an officer of the Public Health Department, or under the hand of a Public Vaccinator, authorizing him or her to travel upon the said railways.
