MALACCA PASSAGE.—ARTHUR PASSAGE.—HERBERT REEF.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—The Canadian Government has given notice that an unwatched intermittent white acetylene light will be established, without further notice, on the concrete beacon recently erected on the southernmost rock of Herbert Reefs, Arthur Passage, British Columbia.
The light will be exhibited 32 ft. above high water, and will be visible 11 miles from all points of approach by water. The concrete beacon will be surmounted by a steel tank, carrying a pyramidal steel frame, supporting the lantern. The tank and frame are painted white.

CHATHAM SOUND.—HOLLAND ISLAND.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—FURTHER INFORMATION.—INTENDED FOG-SIGNAL.—The Canadian Government has given notice that the light recently established on Holland Island, Prince Rupert Harbour approach, Chatham Sound, British Columbia, is a 4th-order, dioptric, fixed white, incandescent petroleum-vapour light of 750 candle-power, elevated 45 ft. above high water, and visible 12 miles from all points of approach.
The light is exhibited from a rectangular wooden building, painted white with red roof, standing on a concrete foundation. A square tower surmounted by a red, octagonal, iron lantern rises above the roof at the north-west corner of the building. The height of the structure from the top of the concrete foundation to the top of the ventilator on the lantern is 43 ft.
A diaphone fog-alarm is being installed in the lighthouse, of which further notice will be given.

STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—BURRARD INLET.—VANCOUVER HARBOUR.—PARTHIA SHOAL.—DREDGING.—TEMPORARY LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Information has been received through the American Consul-General at Vancouver that a dredge is engaged in removing Parthia Shoal, at the entrance to Vancouver Harbour, British Columbia, and that a temporary fixed white light has been established on the northern shore opposite the centre of the shoal.
This light is exhibited 25 ft. above high water from a 5-pile dolphin, and will be maintained as long as the dredge is working.
Approximate position of Brockton Point light: Latitude 49° 17′ 44″ N., longitude 123° 6′ 54″ W.
CANARY ISLANDS.
FUERTEVENTURA ISLAND.—PORT CABRAS.—ADDITIONAL LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—The Spanish Government has given notice that a fixed white light, elevated 21 ft. above the sea, and visible 6 miles, has been established on the extremity of the mole at Port Cabras, Fuerteventura Island. Canary Islands.
This light is placed 2 ft. vertically below the fixed white light recently established in this position, the single light being difficult to distinguish from the lights of the town.
Approx. position: Lat. 28° 28′ 57″ N., long. 13° 51′ 22″ W.
WASHINGTON.
JUAN DE FUCA STRAIT.—NEAH BAY.—RANGE-LIGHTS NOT TO BE ESTABLISHED.—Notice is given that the intended range-lights will NOT be established in Neah Bay, Juan de Fuca Strait, Washington.
GRAYS HARBOUR.—RANGE-LIGHTS TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 1st March, 1913, range-lights will be established at Point Chehalis, Grays Harbour, Washington. This range is not intended to be used in crossing the bar, but should be picked up shortly after passing the Inner Buoy, a perpendicularly striped first-class nun, and followed close up to Chehalis Point.
The front light will be a fixed red light of about 70 candle-power, exhibited 20 ft. above the water and 16 ft. above the ground from a lantern surmounting a pyramidal, skeleton, iron tower, painted white, carrying a black, diamond-shaped daymark, erected on the bearings—
Westport Range front light, 113° 30′.
Grays Harbour Lighthouse, 171°.
Lone Tree, 355°.
The rear light will be a fixed white light of about 300 candle-power, illuminating an arc of 112° 30′, exhibited 30 ft. above the water and 26 ft. above the ground from a lantern surmounting a pyramidal, skeleton, iron tower, painted white, carrying a white, square daymark, erected 540 yards 93° 30′ from the front light.
PUGET SOUND.—SEATTLE HARBOUR.—FOG-SIGNAL ESTABLISHED.—On 3rd December, 1912, a fog-bell, which sounds 1 stroke every 30 seconds, was established in the tower of the Colman Dock, Seattle Harbour, Puget Sound, Washington. This fog-bell is maintained by the Colman Dock Co.

ALKI POINT LIGHT-STATION.—CHARACTERISTIC OF LIGHT TO BE CHANGED.—FOG-SIGNAL TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 1st June, 1913, the fixed white light at Alki Point Light-station, Puget Sound, Washington, will be replaced by a 4th-order flashing white light of about 20,000 candle-power, showing 1 group of 5 flashes every 10 seconds, with the eclipse between the groups about 5 seconds in duration.
The new light will be exhibited about 35 ft. above the water from a cylindrical lantern on an octagonal tower attached to the eastern side of a one-story fog-signal building located on the western end of Alki Point and about 50 yards 353° from the present light.
On the same date a third-class reed fog-horn, which will sound 1 group of 2 blasts every 30 seconds—thus, blast 3 seconds, silent interval 6 seconds; blast 3 seconds, silent interval 18 seconds—will be established at the station.
Two white frame dwellings, about 17 yards apart, stand about 60 yards eastward of the fog-signal building.

WASHINGTON SOUND.—PATOS ISLANDS LIGHT-STATION.—FOG-SIGNAL TO BE TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED.—INTENDED CHANGE IN CHARACTERISTIC.—The fog-signal at Patos Islands Light-station, Washington Sound, will be temporarily discontinued from 1st June to 1st July, 1913, pending the installation of a new fog-signal plant.
On 1st July, 1913, the characteristic of the fog-signal at this station will be changed to sound—thus, blast 4 seconds, silent interval 16 seconds.
Approx. position: Lat. 48° 47′ 21″ N., long. 122° 58′ 13″ W.
OREGON.
CAPE BLANCO LIGHT-STATION.—CHARACTERISTIC OF LIGHT TO BE CHANGED.—About 1st November, 1913, the characteristic of Cape Blanco light, sea-coast of Oregon, will be changed from fixed white to intermittent white every 20 seconds—thus, light 13 seconds, eclipsed 2 seconds; light 3 seconds, eclipsed 2 seconds.
Approx. position: Lat. 42° 50′ 22″ N., long. 124° 33′ 30″ W.
SUMATRA.
EAST COAST.—RHIO STRAIT.—GALANG BARU ISLAND.—REEF SOUTH-WESTWARD.—The commanding officer of the Netherlands man-of-war “Assahan” reports a reef with a least depth of 2 ft. over it, south-westward of Galang Baru Island, Rhio Strait, 875 yards 321° from Tanjong Koko.

ALASKA.
CLARENCE STRAIT.—BURNETT INLET.—ROCK DISCOVERED.—The master of the American steamer “Curacao” reports the existence of an uncharted rock, covered at low water, ¼ mile 114° 30′ from Burnett Cannery, Burnett Inlet, Clarence Strait, Alaska.
Approx. position: Lat. 56° 4′ N., long. 132° 27′ 30″ W.
CALIFORNIA.
SAN DIEGO BAY.—POINT LOMA LIGHT-STATION.—FOG-SIGNAL ESTABLISHED.—On 1st March, 1913, a first-class compressed-air fog-siren, which sounds 1 blast every 20 seconds—thus, blast 3 seconds, silent interval 17 seconds—was established at Point Loma Light-station, San Diego Bay, California. The fog-signal is installed in a white one-story plastered structure with red roof, erected about 7 yards southward of the lighthouse.
Approx. position: Lat. 32° 39′ 55″ N., long. 117° 14′ 32″ W.
LOS ANGELES HARBOUR.—SAN PEDRO BREAKWATER LIGHT-STATION.—LIGHT AND FOG-SIGNAL ESTABLISHED.—On 1st March, 1913, a 4th-order flashing white light of about 140,000 candle-power, showing 1 flash every 15 seconds, was established at San Pedro Breakwater Light-station, Los Angeles Harbour, California, on the bearings—
Long Beach, West Jetty, outer end, tangent, 26° 45′.
Point Fermin Lighthouse, 265° 15′.
Deadmans Island light, 316°.
