Gulf St. Vincent.—Port Adelaide River.—No. 13 Lead.

Masters of vessels, pilots, and others are hereby informed that on and after 1st January, 1913, the back light of No. 13 lead will be changed to a red light, thus making this lead two red lights instead of red and white, as at present.

This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 1750 and 1752.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Marine Department, Brisbane, Queensland, are published for general information.

QUEENSLAND.

Brisbane River Entrance.—Removal of the Pile Lighthouse.

Notice is hereby given that, on and after 11th February, 1913, all lights, tide, and other signals as now exhibited from the pile lighthouse at the old bar channel entrance to the Brisbane River will be discontinued.

One small white light will be exhibited from the structure during the demolition of the building and until further notice.

On and after the above date tide signals as now exhibited from the present lighthouse will be shown from the new pile light in course of erection, at the entrance to the new bar channel; except that the signals indicating flood and ebb will be discontinued until the structure is completed.

The main light will not be exhibited until completion of the building, but a white light visible eight to nine miles will be shown all round from a position above the permanent floor of the new structure. The new lighthouse will not be a signal-station, and no signals other than those specified will be shown until telephone communication is established, of which due notice will be given.

Prince of Wales Channel.—Beacon on Ipili Reef down.

Notice is hereby given that the beacon on Ipili Reef, Prince of Wales Channel, has been blown down. The beacon will not be re-erected, but a black buoy will be placed instead about half a cable to the north-west of Mecca Reef, due notice of which will be given.

REFERRING to Notices to Mariners No. 126 of 1911 and No. 7 of 1913, the following notices, received from the Marine Board, Port Adelaide, South Australia, are published for general information.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

Gulf St. Vincent.—Approach to Port Adelaide.—Wonga Shoal Light.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 26 of 1912, masters of vessels, pilots, and others are hereby informed that the A.G.A. flashing light alluded to in the above-mentioned notice is now exhibited as notified, and that the lightship moored to temporarily mark the position of the Wonga Shoal Lighthouse has been removed.

This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 1750 and 1752.

Gulf St. Vincent.—Semaphore Anchorage.—Wreck of Ship “Norma.”

Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 24 of 1912, masters of vessels and others are informed that on and after the 1st May, 1913, the green occulting light buoy will be discontinued, there being now not less than 36 ft. O.L.W.S. over the remains of the wreck.

Masters of vessels are hereby cautioned not to anchor with the green light on the Semaphore Jetty and the red light on the time-ball tower in line or nearly in line by night, or the lighthouse on the Semaphore Jetty and the time-ball tower by day, bearing 104° true or E. ¾° S. magnetic.

This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 1752 and 2389A and B.

Notice to Mariners No. 20 of 1913.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—ERECTION OF BEACONS.

Wellington, N.Z., 7th February, 1913.

THE Auckland Harbour Board have notified that it has been decided to erect the following mentioned iron beacons in Auckland Harbour, viz.:

  1. A red beacon on the southern end of the reef south of Bean Rock Lighthouse, in approximate position 185° (S. 20° E. mag.), 850 ft. from Bean Rock Lighthouse.

  2. A black beacon on the northern end of the reef off Bastion Point. Approximate position will be Bean Rock Lighthouse, bearing 35° N. 20° E. (mag.), Mount Victoria Flagstaff 309° N. 66° W. (mag.)

  3. A black beacon to replace the buoy now guarding the rock at the entrance of the Taranaki River. Approximate position: Bean Rock Lighthouse, 279° S. 84° W. (mag.); Tapu Point, 215° S. 20° W. (mag.). The beacon will be placed on rock as soon as the buoy is removed. Due notice will be given when the beacons are erected.

Notice to Mariners No. 21 of 1913.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

Spencer Gulf.—Danger to Navigation.

MASTERS of vessels bound in or out of Spencer Gulf are warned of danger arising from four pontoons adrift, and almost completely submerged. They were last seen by the ketch “Yalata” at a point having the highest part of Wedge Island bearing S.W. by W. and Royston Head S.E. by E.

JAPAN.

Mitsushima Lighthouse.—Character and Candle-power of Light changed.

Notice is hereby given that the character and the candle-power of Mitsushima Lighthouse on the small island, north point of Tsushima, have been changed as follows:—

Character: Acetylene gas, flashing, white light, showing a flash every 3 seconds.

Power: 250 candles.

Distance visible: 12½ nautical miles in clear weather.

Rotetsu-zan Lighthouse.—Fog-gun Signal established.

Notice is hereby given that the following fog-gun will be fired at Rotetsu-zan Lighthouse on Liau-ti-shan Promontory, Kwang-tung Peninsula, on and after the 1st of January, 1913.

In answer to a vessel’s fog-signal, during thick or foggy weather, a gun will be once fired, and if the vessel’s fog-signal is still heard the firing will be repeated after a space of seven (7) minutes.

Ganryu-jima Lighted Buoy.—Lighted Buoy removed.

Notice is hereby given that Ganryu-jima lighted buoy on N.E. of S. end of Ganryu-jima, W. entrance to Shimonoseki Strait, has been removed as follows:—

Position: To about S. 0·7 cable from the former site.

Depth of water: About 7 fathoms at L.W.S.T.

Magnetic bearings taken from the buoy: The large chimney at Dairi Sugar Refinery, S. 3° E.; the chimney of the quarantine-station at Hikoshima, S. 60° 30′ W.; Haneishi, N. 28° 50′ W.
