Opening National Endowment Land in Auckland Land District for Selection.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-seventh day of January, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

Altitude, 30 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. About 450 acres fair to poor wiwi swamp; balance undulating fern and manuka country. The dry land is clay soil of inferior quality; watered by swamp. Situated about eight miles from Huntly by formed road.

Opening National Endowment Lands in Taranaki Land District for Selection.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the fourteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Waitomo County.—Totoro Survey District.

Weighted with £25 12s., valuation for improvements consisting of 14 chains of fencing and house.

Situated on the Mangapeehi Road. Access is from Te Kuiti Railway-station, which is about nine miles and a half distant by a dray-road—metalled for eight miles and a half and formed for remaining distance. The section comprises high fern hills, falling very steeply to Mangapeehi Stream on the northern boundary. The soil is of rather inferior quality, resting on a rhyolite formation. The section is not well watered.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Clifton County.—Upper Waitara Survey District.

Situated on the Makino North Road, distant twelve miles from Uruti, via Makino North, Rerekino, Moki, and Uruti Roads. Access is from Uruti—by dray-road for six miles, bridle-track for six miles, and unformed road for 30 chains. The section comprises broken country. The soil is of fair quality, on a papa formation. The forest consists of tawa, rimu, kahikatea, hinau, &c., with an undergrowth of karamu &c. The section is well watered. Elevation ranges from 500 ft. to 1,320 ft. above sea-level.

Opening Lands in Taranaki Land District for Sale or Selection.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Tuesday, the fourteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Waitomo County.—Totoro Survey District.

Situated on the Mapara Road. Access is from Te Kuiti. Section 4 sixteen miles and Section 6 fifteen miles and a half distant by a dray-road for fifteen miles; the remaining distance is unformed road. The sections vary from fair to steep and broken country, covered with a mixed bush of tawa, kahikatea, rimu, rata, hinau, and scrub. Good homestead sites are obtainable. The soil is good; well watered.

Waitomo County.—Mapara Survey District.

Weighted with £188 7s. 6d., valuation for improvements consisting of 73 acres felling and grassing, whare, and frame of hut.

Situated on the Mapiu Road, with a frontage to the Mapiu Stream on the south-east boundary. Access is from Waimiha Railway-station, which is about fourteen miles distant by the Takiri Road, eight miles of which is a formed dray-road; the remaining distance, via Mapiu Road, is formed dray-road to within two miles of the section, the last two miles being good riding-track, but not yet fit for wheel traffic. The section comprises low-lying bush ridges, falling away to flats on the Mapiu Road and stream. On a portion of the north-east end the bush is light, but the remainder is covered with heavy forest. The soil is of light quality, on a papa formation. The forest is heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, kahikatea, matai, tawhero, &c., with a heavy undergrowth of supplejack, mahoe, raurekau, konini, &c. The section is well watered.

Weighted with £62 15s., valuation for improvements consisting of 12 acres felling and grassing and 14 acres felled only.

Situated on the Mangaiti Road. Access is from Waimiha Railway-station, which is about fifteen miles distant by formed dray-road for twelve miles, the remainder being partly formed dray-road and 6 ft. track. The section comprises heavy bush country, falling from fairly high ridge at the back to easy undulating country on the road frontage. The greater portion of the section is suitable for dairying. The soil is of very good quality, resting on a papa formation. The forest is heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, matai, &c., with
