MATAMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of Matamata Riding of the County of Matamata taken on the 19th day of October, 1912, on the proposal of the Matamata County Council to borrow the sum of £12,000 for improving the grades and metalling certain roads in the riding, which proposal was published in the Waikato Argus on 13th, 20th, 27th September and 4th October, 1912, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 107, the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 12, and the number of votes informal was 2.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

  3. Extension of water-supply system .. .. 420

the number of votes recorded was as follows: For the proposal, 111; against the proposal, 99; informal, 4.

As the number of votes recorded for the proposal exceeds the number of votes recorded against the proposal I hereby declare the proposal carried.

Notice cancelling that fixing Closing-hours of Mercers’ Shops in the Borough of Thames under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the mercers’ shops in the Borough of Thames, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the notice gazetted on the 7th day of December, 1911, fixing the closing-hours of all drapers’, tailors’, and mercers’ shops, combined and separately, within the Borough of Thames, shall be cancelled so far as it affects mercers: And whereas the Thames Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of shops in the mercery trade within the Borough of Thames:

Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 4th day of November, 1912, the said notice shall be cancelled accordingly so far as it affects mercers’ shops.

ARGENTINA.

BAHIA BLANCA (PORT BELGRANO) LIGHT-VESSEL.—CHARACTERISTIC OF FOG-SIGNAL CHANGED.—Information has been received from the Argentine Government that the fog-signal on Bahia Blanca Light-vessel, Argentina, has been changed to sound 1 blast every 35 seconds—thus, blast 10 seconds, silent interval 25 seconds.

Approx. position: Lat. 39° 10′ 34″ S., long. 61° 39′ 35″ W.

JAPAN.

KIUSHU.—WEST COAST.—TERA SHIMA SUIDO.—SUBMARINE CABLE.—PROHIBITED ANCHORAGE.—The Japanese Government has given notice that anchorage is prohibited on or near the line of the submarine telegraph cable laid between Nagushi Jima and Kakiura Jima, West Coast of Kiushu, Japan.

From a point 525 yards 70° 22′ from the north-western extremity of Nagushi Jima, the cable is laid as follows: 1·3 miles 266°, thence 1·53 miles 292° 45′, thence 525 yards 322° 30′, thence 180 yards 271°, thence 440 yards 306° 30′, thence 175 yards 239°, thence 335 yards 296° 30′, thence 238° 30′ to Nakato on Kakiura Jima.

Approximate position of north-west extreme of Nagushi Jima: Latitude 33° 0′ 30″ N., longitude 129° 38′ 45″ E.

CHINA SEA.

SINGAPORE STRAIT.—TREE ISLAND.—SHOAL NORTH-EASTWARD.—The commanding officer of H.B.M. surveying vessel “Waterwitch” reports a shoal, with a least depth of 5½ fathoms over it, 2,150 yards 31° from Tree Island light, Singapore Strait, China Sea.

Approx. position: Lat. 1° 10′ 24″ N., long. 103° 40′ 14″ E.

CHINA.

YANGTZE RIVER ENTRANCE.—SOUTH CHANNEL.—GAS AND BELL BUOY DISCONTINUED.—POSITION OF LIGHT-VESSEL.—The Chinese Government has given notice the Fairway Wreck gas and bell buoy, formerly moored in the South Channel, Yangtze River entrance, China, has been discontinued.

On 26th August, 1910, Kiutoan Light-vessel was moved from its former position and re-established 4·3 miles 185° from House Island beacon.

Approximate position of House Island beacon: Latitude 31° 16′ 20″ N., longitude 121° 51′ 20″ E.

LOWER CALIFORNIA.

PORT LORETO.—INTENDED LIGHT.—The Mexican Government has given notice that on 16th September, 1912, a 6th-order fixed white light of 100 candle-power will be established at Port Loreto, Lower California.

The light will be shown 27 ft. above the sea from an iron column, with a hut at its base, both painted white, located about 275 yards eastward of the village, and will be visible 10 miles.
