The land, although steep and broken in places, would afford good grazing after being cleared. It contains a good deal of heavy bush, and also a fair proportion that would not be difficult to clear. The road leading to the sections has been formed and partly metalled as far as the eastern boundary of Section 16, and from there to the south-west corner of Section 36 it has been felled and logged up. Distant about two miles from Kahuika School and Post-office, and about three miles from a proposed siding on the Catlins Extension Railway.

A good bush section, though somewhat broken by Beresford Creek, which runs through it. The greater part of the area has an easterly aspect. Situated within two miles of Kahuika School and Post-office, and within two miles of a proposed siding on the Catlin’s Extension Railway.

Opening National Endowment Land in Otago Land District for Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the eleventh day of February, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

DESCRIPTION.

Situated about a mile by good formed road from Waipahi, a station on the main south railway-line, where there is a school, post-office, and telegraph-office. The sections have a northerly aspect, with good soil and permanent water. They have been ploughed, and have been down for a long period in grass, which will require renewing.
