EXTENSION OF PACIFIC CABLE FROM DOUBTLESS BAY TO AUCKLAND, AND CAUTION AGAINST ANCHORING OVER THE CABLE GROUND OFF STOKES POINT.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 11th October, 1912.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed to extend the Pacific cable from Doubtless to Auckland, and to land this cable at the bottom of Strand Road, Takapuna, thence to be laid underground in pipes across to Shoal Bay.
From there it will be laid down the centre of the channel close under Stokes Point, where it will cross existing cables to the little bay at the bottom of Curran Street.
The new Pacific cable will be trenched overland from Muriwai on the west coast to Harkin’s Point.
From Harkin’s Point it will be laid down the channel in the deepest water. After passing Kauri Point the cable will be inclined to the south shore, in order to give a good clearance to the large vessels that may be expected to load or unload at the Chelsea Works.
