ADMIRALTY ISLANDS.—CORRECTED POSITIONS OF ISLANDS.—The German Government has given corrected positions for islands lying eastward of Admiralty Island, Admiralty Islands, South Pacific Ocean, as follows :—
Putuli Island (Los Reyes Group), in (approximately) latitude 1° 57′ S., longitude 148° 3′ 30″ E.
Mbatmanda Island (Los Reyes Group), in (approximately) latitude 1° 56′ 30″ S., longitude 148° 7′ 30″ E.
La Vandola Island, in (approximately) latitude 2° 11′ 30″ S., longitude 148° 9′ 30″ E.
Towi Island, in (approximately) latitude 1° 59′ S., longitude 147° 55′ E.
TONGO ISLANDS.—ANTIOPE REEF.—NON-EXISTENCE REPORTED.—H. C. Davison, master of the British bark “Lord Templeton,” reports passing over the position of Antiope Reef, South Pacific Ocean, during clear weather and rough sea without seeing any evidences of the reef from aloft.
Captain Davison verified his chronometer, and is confident he was within easy vision of the reef’s charted position.
Approx. position : Lat. 18° 14′ S., long. 168° 20′ W.
ADMIRALTY ISLANDS.—LA VANDOLA ISLAND.—POSITION.—FURTHER INFORMATION.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 27 (2125) of 1912, the German Government has given further notice that the position of La Vandola Island, Admiralty Islands, South Pacific Ocean, is (approximately) latitude 2° 11′ S., longitude 148° 14′ E.
BAY OF BENGAL.
RANGOON RIVER.—PILA KUH CHAUNG (DESERTERS CREEK).—RANGE LIGHTS MOVED.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—On 1st May, 1912, the Pila Kuh Chaung (Deserters Creek) Range lights, situated ½ mile above Pila Kuh Chaung (Deserters Creek), Rangoon River, Bay of Bengal, were moved 600 ft. south-southwestward from their charted positions, without change in the direction of the range line, and on 6th May, 1912, a new fixed white front range light was established, which, in line with the rear light of the Deserters Creek Range will lead up the river. The front light of the Deserters Creek Range is a fixed white light exhibited from a mast. The rear light is a 5th-order fixed white light. These lights in line bearing 287° will lead nearly through mid-channel instead of near the northern edge, as heretofore.
The new front range light is exhibited 30 ft. above the ground from a post located 600 ft. 334° from the rear light.
These lights in line bearing 154° will lead through Hmawwun Reach.
Approx. position : Lat. 16° 30′ N., long. 96° 17′ 30″ E.
CHITTAGONG RIVER.—WRECK.—BUOY ESTABLISHED.—Information has been received that a small schooner lies sunk 1,000 ft. 51° from Ring Bar buoy, Chittagong River, Bay of Bengal. The masts have disappeared, and there is a depth of 14 ft. over the hull at low-water spring tides. The wreck is marked by a buoy.
Approximate position of Ring Bar buoy : Latitude 22° 19′ 10″ N., longitude 91° 49′ 29″ E.
WASHINGTON.
JUAN DE FUCA STRAIT.—NEAH BAY.—WHISTLE-BUOY REPLACED BY GAS AND WHISTLE BUOY.—LIGHT DISCONTINUED.—On 13th August, 1912, Neah Bay whistle-buoy, 2 NEAH BAY, Juan de Fuca Strait, was replaced by a combined gas and whistle buoy. The new buoy is conical in shape, with a pyramidal skeleton superstructure, and shows an intermittent white light of 820 candle-power every 10 seconds —thus, light 5 seconds, eclipsed 5 seconds.
On the same date Waadah Island light was permanently discontinued.
Approx. position : Lat. 48° 23′ 35″ N., long. 124° 36′ 25″ W.
BAADDADH POINT LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC AND HEIGHT.—The light on Baaddah Point, Neah Bay, Juan de Fuca Strait, Washington, is a flashing white light every 3 seconds, exhibited 42 ft. above the water and 14 ft. above the ground.

DESTRUCTION ISLAND LIGHT-STATION.—FOG-SIGNAL CHANGED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 23 (1765) of 1912, further notice is given that on 1st July, 1912, the first-class steam-siren at Destruction Island Light-station, sea-coast of Washington, was replaced by a first-class compressed-air siren operated by oil-engines, which will sound 1 blast every 15 seconds—thus, blast 2 seconds, silent interval 13 seconds.
The new fog-signal is installed in a one-story concrete building, with cement coloured walls and brown roof, located immediately eastward of the site of the old fog-signal building, which was removed.
CANARY ISLANDS.
LAS PALMAS.—LA LUZ HARBOUR.—HYDROGRAPHIC INFORMATION.—The Spanish Government has given notice that the shoals eastward of Santa Catalina Castle, La Luz Harbour, Las Palmas, Canary Islands, are marked by a black cylindrical buoy surmounted by a black cylindrical topmark.
Soundings taken around this buoy at a radius of about 30 ft. showed a least depth of 16 ft. Similar soundings taken around the two black buoys located north-eastward and east-northeastward from the castle showed least depths of nearly 14 ft. and 24 ft. respectively.
It is also reported that the red and white buoy formerly indicating Lanzarote Telegraph Cable is not in position.
JAPAN.
SHIMONOSEKI STRAIT.—WESTERN APPROACH.—FUTAOI SHIMA.—KANEGA SAKI.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 22 (1704) of 1912, the Japanese Government has given further notice that on 15th July, 1912, a 4th-order flashing white light of 30,000 candle-power, showing 1 group of 3 flashes every 40 seconds—thus, 3 flashes during 16 seconds, eclipsed 24 seconds—would be established on Kanega Saki, Futoai Shima, north-western approach to Shimonoseki Strait.
The light is exhibited 325 ft. above the water and 43·1 ft. above the ground from an octagonal concrete tower, painted white, and is visible 25½ miles in clear weather over an arc of 203° 53′ from 296° 47′ to 140° 40′, and over an arc of 39° 40′ from 246° 30′ to 286° 10′.
Approx. position : Lat. 34° 5′ 54″ N., long. 130° 46′ 56″ E.
JAVA.
NORTH COAST.—CHERIBON APPROACH.—BUOY REPLACED BY LIGHT-BUOY.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 25 (1763) of 1911, further notice is given that the black can buoy moored in the approach to Cheribon, north coast of Java, has been replaced by a black light-buoy exhibiting an intermittent white light.
Approx. position : Lat. 6° 46′ S., long. 108° 49′ 40″ E.
URUGUAY.
PLATA RIVER.—SAUCE PORT LIGHT REPORTED UNRELIABLE.—Information has been received that Sauce Port Light, Plata River, Uruguay, is unreliable. With south winds and high seas it is not lighted.
Approx. position : Lat. 34° 26′ 20″ S., long. 57° 28′ 15″ W.
HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
MOLOKAI.—KAUNAKAKAI RANGE-LIGHTS.—CHARACTERISTICS CHANGED.—NEW STRUCTURES.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 20 (1518) of 1912, further notice is given that on 15th June, 1912, the characteristics of Kaunakakai range-lights, Molokai Island, Hawaiian Islands, were changed as follows :—
The front light from fixed white to flashing white every 1·5 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 1·2 seconds.
The rear light from fixed red to intermittent white every 2 seconds—thus, flash 1 second, eclipsed 1 second.
Front Light.—The front light is exhibited 27 ft. above the water and 25 ft. above the ground from a white, pyramidal, skeleton, iron tower erected on the roof of a white concrete service-house, located (approximately) 80 yards 215° from the site of the former front light.
Rear Light.—The rear light is exhibited about 40 ft. above the water and 37 ft. above the ground from a white, pyramidal, skeleton, iron tower with a white iron service-room at the base, located 200 yards 35° from the front light.
The old masts have been removed and the daymarks transferred to the new structures.
Both lights are unwatched, and have acetylene gas as an illuminant.
