Situated on the Kaiparoro Road. Access is from Manga-mahoe Railway-station, about nine miles distant—by six miles of metalled road, two miles of formed road, and remainder bridle-track. Comprises steep, hilly land, with soil of an inferior clayey nature on roten-rock formation. The forest consists of birch, rata, tawa, rewarewa, &c. Well watered by permanent streams. Elevation, from about 700 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise about 70 acres felled and grassed, now much overgrown.

Opening Settlement Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the settlement lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the twenty-ninth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and twelve, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Acts.

Altitude, about 200 ft. above sea-level. Level land in old grass. Soil of a light sandy nature, of good quality; no surface water on section. Fronts Tower Road and Tainui Street. About 15 chains from Matamata Railway-station by formed road.

Altitude, about 200 ft. above sea-level. Level land in old grass. Soil of a light sandy nature, of good quality; no surface water on section. Frontage to Tower Road. A quarter of a mile from Matamata Railway-station or post-office by good formed road.

Altitude, about 200 ft. above sea-level. Flat land; about half bush and half in old grass. Soil, a good sandy loam, on clay formation; no surface water on section. Situated about sixteen miles from Kihikihi Township by cart-road.

Granting the Right to Natives to use Ancestral Burial-grounds on Portion of a Scenic Reserve in the Paetawa North Block, Wellington Land District.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

WHEREAS by section seven of the Scenery Preservation Amendment Act, 1910, it is provided that the Governor may from time to time, by notice in the Gazette, grant to Natives, where any reserve as mentioned therein includes any ancestral burial-grounds of Natives, the right to bury deceased Natives therein, and that all rights so granted may at any time thereafter be withdrawn or varied by the Governor by notice in the Gazette: And whereas by a Proclamation dated the twenty-third day of May, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, and published in Gazette No. 45, of the first day of June of that year, the land described in the Schedule hereto was among other lands taken for scenic purposes under the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, and the Scenery Preservation Amendment Act, 1910, and the Public Works Act, 1908: And whereas certain Native ancestral burial-grounds are situated within the boundaries of the said piece of land, and it is desirable that the right should be granted to Natives to bury deceased Natives therein:

Now, therefore, I, John Poynder, Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power conferred by section seven of the Scenery Preservation Amendment Act, 1910, do hereby grant, during the pleasure of the Governor, the right to bury deceased Natives in the ancestral burial-grounds, situated within the boundaries of the parcel of land described in the Schedule hereto, to such Natives as the Minister charged for the time being with the administration of the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, shall from time to time approve.

SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 1 acre 2 roods, more or less, being part of Paetawa North Block, situated in Block VI, Waipukura Survey District. Bounded towards the north-west by a stream forming part of the south-eastern boundary of Te Tuhi No. 5 Block, 855 links; towards the south-east by the Wanganui River, 710 links; and towards the south-west by the other part of Paetawa North Block, 450 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 510/16, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-sixth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and twelve.
