Opening Lands in Nelson Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

I S L I N G T O N, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the ninth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and twelve, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to section one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone.

Nearly all bush, about 10 acres flat, carrying some white and black pine; remainder hills, covered with brown and silver birch. Situated about eight miles from the Inangahua Junction—six miles and a half by main coach-road, and a mile and a half by unformed road.

BULLER COUNTY.—OTUMAHANA SURVEY DISTRICT.—KARAMEA MINING DISTRICT.

All heavy mixed bush; mostly black and silver birch, with thick underscrub; about a quarter flat; remainder steep hills. Good soil; well watered. Accessible by road in course of construction; seven miles from Te Namu Post-office. The Mount Radiant track intersects this block.

Situated twelve miles from Reefton by road and railway, half a mile from Rotokohu Railway-station.

Hilly forest land, covered with rata, tawhero, mahoe, and heavy underscrub; about half gradual slope up from Fox's River; remainder broken limestone country. Good soil; well watered. Distant about two miles from Brighton by good bridle-track.

Granting the Right to Natives to use Ancestral Burial-grounds on Scenic Reserves in Te Tuhi No. 1 and Ahuahu B Blocks.

I S L I N G T O N, Governor.

WHEREAS by section seven of the Scenery Preservation Amendment Act, 1910, it is provided that the Governor may from time to time, by notice in the Gazette, grant to Natives, where any reserve as mentioned therein includes any ancestral burial-grounds of Natives, the right to bury deceased Natives therein, and that all rights so granted may at any time thereafter be withdrawn or varied by the Governor by notice in the Gazette: And whereas by a Proclamation dated the twenty-fourth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and twelve, and published in Gazette No. 8, of the first day of February of that year, two portions of Te Tuhi No. 1 Block, containing together 70 acres 1 rood 33 perches, and a portion of Ahuahu B Block containing 50 acres, were among other lands taken for scenic purposes under the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, the Scenery Preservation Amendment Act, 1910, and the Public Works Act, 1908 : And whereas certain Native ancestral burial-grounds are situated within the boundaries of the said pieces of lands, and it is desirable that the right should be granted to Natives to bury deceased Natives therein :

Now, therefore, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power conferred by section seven of the Scenery Preservation Amendment Act, 1910, do hereby grant, during the pleasure of the Governor, the right to bury deceased Natives in the ancestral burial-grounds, situated within the boundaries of such portions of Te Tuhi No. 1 and Ahuahu B Blocks, as were taken for scenic purposes by the said Proclama-
