Schedule, subclauses (a) to (i), such minimum width being fixed in proportion to the number of wheels, the number of horses, and the weights of load mentioned respectively in such subclauses, and no greater number of horses shall be employed to draw, and no greater weight of load shall be carried in, any vehicle (other than aforesaid) with the minimum widths of tires specified in such subclauses than the maximum number of horses and the maximum weight of load set opposite the description of vehicle in such subclauses.

Clause 2. In regard to vehicles which at the time of any alleged breach of these by-laws are being used for any purpose (other than chiefly for the carriage of passengers) :—

Second Schedule.

Clause 1. In regard to vehicles which at the time of any alleged breach of these by-laws are being used chiefly for the purpose of carrying passengers for reward :—

(a.) No four-wheeled vehicle drawn by not more than four horses or other animals shall have tires of less width than 2 in.

(b.) No four-wheeled vehicle drawn by five horses or other animals shall have tires of less width than 3 in.

(c.) Not more than the number of animals mentioned in clauses (a) and (b) respectively of this Schedule shall be employed to draw a four-wheeled vehicle having tires of a less width than mentioned in such clauses respectively.

Clause 2. The driver of every vehicle used upon any road under the care, control, or management of the Council for any purpose (other than chiefly for the carriage of passengers) shall, upon the request of any person authorized in that behalf by the Akitio County Council, give such information as to the load or the contents of such vehicle, and the quantity, weight, size, or measurement of the same, and shall do such acts for the purpose of enabling the same to be ascertained as such authorized person requests; and any driver refusing or failing to give such information, or in any way acting in breach of this provision, commits an offence, and shall upon conviction thereof be liable to a fine not exceeding £5 for every such offence.

Clause 3. The weight of the contents of any vehicle shall be ascertained by a computation of such weight from the cubical or superficial measurement thereof, and for that purpose the following quantities of material shall be deemed to be of the weights set opposite to them hereunder, that is to say :—

Bullock Teams.—Winter.

Clause 4. No bullock team shall work or be employed in traction upon any road under the care, control, or management of the Council during the months of May, June, July, August, and September in any year. Every owner, driver, or other person who shall do, permit, or suffer any act in contravention of this clause commits an offence, and shall upon conviction thereof be liable to a fine not exceeding £5 for every such offence.

NO. 5. BY-LAW.—SUMMER BY-LAW.

  1. Every person who shall at any time between the 1st day of October and the 30th day of April (both inclusive)

in any one year drive, use, or employ, or permit or suffer to be driven, used, or employed, any vehicle, whether plying for hire or not, upon any road under the care, control, or management of the Council, in contravention of any of the clauses of the First and Second Schedules hereunder written respectively, commits an offence, and shall upon conviction thereof be liable to pay a fine not exceeding £5 for every such offence.

First Schedule.

Clause 1. No vehicle (other than one used chiefly for the carriage of passengers) shall have tires of a less width than those specified respectively in clause 2 of this Schedule, subclauses (a) to (j), such minimum width being fixed in proportion to the number of wheels, the number of horses, and the weights of load mentioned respectively in such subclauses, and no greater number of horses shall be employed to draw and no greater weight of load shall be carried in any vehicle (other than aforesaid) with the minimum widths of tires specified in such subclauses than the maximum number of horses and the maximum weight of load set opposite the description of vehicle in such subclauses.

NO. 6 BY-LAW.—TRAFFIC ON BRIDGES.

  1. No person shall drive any vehicle across or upon any traffic-bridge at any pace faster than that of a walk.

  2. No person shall ride, drive, or lead any cattle or horses across or upon any traffic-bridge at any pace faster than that of a walk.
