Establishment of Unattended Lights at Cape Liptrap and Citadel Island.

Referring to General Notice to Mariners, dated 1st August, 1907, pages 103 and 105, describing the physical features and appearance of Cape Liptrap and Citadel Island, mariners are hereby notified that, on or after the 1st March, 1913, unattended flashing lights showing all around the horizon will be established at Cape Liptrap and Citadel Island.

The light at Cape Liptrap will be a white flashing light, showing two flashes in quick succession every six seconds. It will be exhibited from a small concrete tower at an elevation of about 300 ft. above sea-level, and be visible in clear weather for a distance of 23 miles.

The light at Citadel Island will be a white flashing light showing a flash every three seconds. It will be exhibited from an iron skeleton structure at an elevation of about 380 ft. above sea-level, and be visible in clear weather for a distance of 15 miles.

Subsequent notices will be published describing the details of these new lights.

Abolition of Auxiliary Danger Lights at Cape Everard and Gabo Island.

Referring to General Notice to Mariners, dated 1st August, 1907, pages 140 and 144, mariners are hereby notified that, on and after the 1st January, 1913, the red auxiliary danger lights at present shown from Cape Everard and Gabo Island Lighthouses will be discontinued.

Fog-signals.—Cliffy and Gabo Islands.

Referring to General Notice to Mariners, dated 1st August, 1907, pages 110 and 144, mariners are hereby notified that, on and after the 1st January, 1913, the periods or intervals between the sound signals made by fog-rockets at the above lighthouse-stations will be as follow :—

Cliffy Island: One fog-rocket every five minutes instead of every ten minutes as at present.

Gabo Island: Two fog-rockets in quick succession every five minutes instead of every ten minutes as at present.

Removal of Buoy.

It is hereby notified for the information of mariners that the small spherical buoy marking the pinnacle rock off the subport of Talayi has been removed for overhaul on the 21st May, 1912, and will be replaced about the 1st October, 1912, when the working-season again commences.

DENISON CANAL APPROACHES (TASMANIA).

Notice is hereby given that the white three-pile beacon at the Dunalley Bay approach to the Denison Canal has been replaced by a white buoy; also that the black buoy at the cutting in Blackman Bay has been put back in its proper position.

Notice to Mariners No. 89 of 1912.

GREYMOUTH RIVER.—KOTUKU WRECK.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 22nd July, 1912.

THE Greymouth Harbour Board report that the Kotuku wreckage has washed out to sea; the bar has been dragged and wreckage cannot be found; it is considered therefore that there is no danger to shipping on account of the wreck.

KARAMEA RIVER.—LIGHT MOVED.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Port Light-staff at Karamea has been moved 460 ft. due north of former position.

Notice to Mariners No. 91 of 1912.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—LIGHT ON CALLIOPE DOCK PIER.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 24th July, 1912.

THE Auckland Harbour Board have notified that, on and after 27th July, a red light will be shown from Calliope Dock Pier. The light will be 18 ft. above high water and 22 ft. from the end of the pier. It will show an unbroken red light over the harbour and white in shore over the pier.

A light will also be exhibited from the end of No. 4 Jetty, Auckland, on the same date, showing red over the harbour and white in shore; the focal plane of light will be 18 ft. above high water.

Notice to Mariners No. 92 of 1912.

OTAGO HARBOUR.—BEACON-LIGHTS IN OTAGO LOWER HARBOUR.

THE Otago Harbour Board notify as follows in respect to changes in the beacon-lights of Otago Lower Harbour, viz. :—

Referring to Notices to Mariners No. 26 of 1909, No. 79 of 1910, No. 87 of 1910, and No. 128 of 1910, it is hereby notified that the three pile beacons in the bend south of Harrington Point are being removed, and in lieu thereof four red pile beacons carrying red lights are being driven in the following positions: A red pile bearing S. 13° W., 880 ft. distant from No. 5 black beacon off Quarry Jetty; a red pile bearing S. 41° E., 400 ft. distant from black pile No. 4; a red pile bearing S. 56° E., 600 ft. distant from black pile No. 3; and a red pile bearing S. 76° E., 750 ft. distant from black pile No. 2.
