SAN FRANCISCO BAY.-ANITA ROCK BUOY TO BE RE-
PLACED BY BELL-BUOY.--About 10th June, 1912, Anita Rock
buoy, San Francisco Bay entrance, California, will be
replaced by a bell-buoy.
Approx. position : Lat. 37° 48' 35" N., long. 122° 27'
10" W.
SANTA BARBARA LIGHT.-CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.
--FURTHER INFORMATION.--Referring to Notice to Mariners
No. 10 (675) of 1912, further notice is given that about 1st
May, 1912, the characteristic of Santa Barbara light,
California, will be changed from a fixed white to flashing
white every 15 seconds.
The power of the light will also be increased from about
520 to about 96,000 candles.
Approx. position : Lat. 34° 23' 52" N., long. 119° 43'
17" W.
SAN DIEGO HARBOUR.-FRONT RANGE LIGHT TO BE ESTA-
BLISHED.--About 1st June, 1912, San Diego Harbour
entrance front range light, a fixed red light of about
43 candle-power, will be established at the entrance to
San Diego Harbour, California, to mark the axis of the
new dredged cut. The light will be exhibited from a red
post placed in 12 ft. of water 1,450 yards 178° 15' from
light No. 2, which will serve as the rear light of the
range, on the bearings :-
Coronado Hotel Tower, 104°.
Ballast Point Lighthouse, 220° 45'.
Light No. 2, 358° 15'.
Approx. position : Lat. 32° 41' 25" N., long. 117° 13'
42" W.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY ENTRANCE.-BELL-BUOY REPLACED BY
GAS AND WHISTLE BUOY.--Referring to Notice to Mariners
No. 7 (459) of 1912, further notice is given that on 2nd
April, 1912, inside bar gas and whistle buoy 2A, conical,
in shape, with pyramidal skeleton superstructures, showing
an intermittent white light every 10 seconds--thus, light
5 seconds, eclipsed 5 seconds--was established in the en-
trance to San Francisco Bay, California, about 350 yards
southward of the position heretofore occupied by inside
bar bell-buoy, which was then discontinued.
The gas and whistle buoy is located on the bearings :-
Bonita Point Lighthouse, 46°.
Mile Rocks Lighthouse, 75° 45'.
Ocean House, 126° 15'.
Approx. position : Lat. 37° 46' 50" N., long. 122° 34'

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.--SAN PABLO BAY.--CARQUINEZ
STRAIT LIGHT.--CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.--About
21st May, 1912, the characteristic of Carquinez Strait
light, San Pablo Bay, California, will be changed from
fixed red to intermittent white every 10 seconds--thus,
light 5 seconds, eclipsed 5 seconds.
The power of the light will also be increased from 800
to about 4,600 candles.
Approx. position : Lat. 38° 4' 9" N., long. 122° 14'
35" W.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY.--SUISUN BAY.--ROE ISLAND LIGHT.
--CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.--About 23rd May, 1912,
the characteristic of Roe Island light, Suisun Bay, Cali-
fornia, will be changed from fixed white to intermittent
white every 5 seconds--thus, light 2½ seconds, eclipsed 2½
seconds.
The power of the light will also be increased from 360
to about 3,200 candles.
Approx. position : Lat. 38° 4' 5" N., long. 122° 1'
40" W.
SAN PEDRO HARBOUR.--LIGHT TO BE CHANGED.--FURTHER
INFORMATION.--Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 15
(1059) of 1912, further notice is given that about 15th
April, 1912, the characteristic of San Pedro Breakwater
light, San Pedro Harbour, California, will be changed
from 1 fixed red to 2 fixed red lights placed vertically
8 ft. apart, the upper light being about 35 ft. above the
water.
These lights will be shown from a mast, and as con-
struction-work on the lighthouse proceeds the lights will
be raised.
Note.--The notice above referred to is hereby cancelled.
Approx. position : Lat. 33° 43' 10" N., long. 118° 16'
2" W.

POINT MONTARA.--INTENDED CHANGE IN LIGHT.--About
15th June, 1912, the present fixed red light exhibited at
Point Montara Light-station, sea-coast of California, will
be replaced by an intermittent white light every 5 seconds
--thus, light 2½ seconds, eclipsed 2½ seconds.
The new light will be exhibited 70 ft. above the water
and 30 ft. above the ground from a white, pyramidal,
skeleton, iron tower located 38 yards 5° from the present
position of the light.
The illuminant will be incandescent oil vapour, and the
light will have a luminous power of about 3,200 candles.
Approx. position : Lat. 37° 32' 11" N., long. 122° 31'
6" W.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY.--EAST BROTHER ISLAND LIGHT.--
CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.--About 26th June, 1912,
the characteristic of East Brother Island light, San Fran-
cisco Bay, California, will be changed from fixed white
to intermittent white every 10 seconds--thus, light 7½
seconds, eclipsed 2½ seconds. The intensity of the light
will also be increased from 520 to about 4,600 candles by
changing the illuminant from oil to incandescent oil
vapour.
Approx. position : Lat. 37° 57' 49" N., long. 122° 25'
58" W.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY.--SAN PABLO BAY.--CARQUINEZ
STRAIT LIGHT.--CHARACTERISTIC CHANGED.--Referring to
Notice to Mariners No. 16 (1140) of 1912, further notice
is given that on 21st May, 1912, the characteristic of Car-
quinez Strait light, San Pablo Bay, California, was
changed from fixed red to intermittent white every 10
seconds--thus, light 5 seconds, eclipsed 5 seconds.
The power of the light was also increased from 800 to
about 4,600 candles.

LOWER CALIFORNIA.
LA PAZ.--LIGHT DISCONTINUED.--The Mexican Govern-
ment has given notice that the fixed red light on the mole
at La Paz, Lower California, has been discontinued.

45" W.

Port Officer, Melbourne, Victoria, is published for
general information.

VICTORIA.--BASS STRAIT LIGHTS.
THE following Notice to Mariners, in pursuance of the
recommendations by the Commonwealth Government for
improvements to the existing lighting, &c., of the south-
east coast of Victoria, is published for general informa-
tion :-
Increase of Power and Alteration in Characteristics of
Wilson's Promontory and Gabo Island Lights.
Referring to General Notice to Mariners, dated 1st
August, 1907, pages 107 and 144, mariners and others are
hereby notified that it is intended to increase the power
and alter the characteristics of the present lights exhibited
at Wilson's Promontory and Gabo Island Stations.
The present fixed white light at Wilson's Promontory
will be changed to a quadruple flashing light showing
four flashes in quick succession every fifteen seconds.
The present fixed white light at Gabo Island will be
changed to an occulting light with periods of nine seconds
light and three seconds eclipse.
It is anticipated that the work of conversion will be
completed in time to enable the new lights to be exhibited
about the 1st March, 1913.
Subsequent notices will be published describing the de-
tails of the alterations.
