NEW HEBRIDES.—EFATE ISLAND.—FILA HARBOUR.—COLOUR OF REAR RANGE LIGHT CHANGED.—Information dated 29th January, 1912, has been received that the colour of the rear range light in Fila Harbour, Efate Island, New Hebrides, has been changed from white to red.

The intensity of the front light has been increased, and the light is now visible 9 miles.

Approx. position: Lat. 17° 44′ 10″ S., long. 168° 18′ 55″ E.

NEW GUINEA.—NORTH-EAST COAST.

Approximate position of Cape Girgir: Latitude 3° 46′ S., longitude 144° 29′ E.

CALIFORNIA.

SAN DIEGO BAY.—POINT LOMA LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.—About 29th June the characteristic of Point Loma light, San Diego Bay, California, will be changed from flashing alternately red and white every 20 seconds to flashing white every 15 seconds.

Approx. position: Lat. 32° 39′ 55″ N., long. 117° 14′ 32″ W.

SAN PEDRO HARBOUR.—LIGHT CHANGED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 18 (1305) of 1912, further notice is given that on 29th April, 1912, the characteristic of San Pedro Breakwater light, San Pedro Harbour, California, was changed from 1 fixed red to 2 fixed red lights placed vertically 8 ft. apart, the upper light being about 35 ft. above the water.

These lights are shown from a mast, and as construction-work on the lighthouse proceeds the lights will be raised.

Approx. position: Lat. 33° 43′ 10″ N., long. 118° 16′ 2″ W.

POINT FERMIN LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.—About 1st July, 1912, the characteristic of Point Fermin light, San Pedro Harbour, California, will be changed from fixed white to intermittent white every 20 seconds—thus, light 5 seconds, eclipsed 2½ seconds; light 10 seconds, eclipsed 2½ seconds.

The luminous power of the light will be increased from 520 to 3,200 candles by changing the illuminant from oil to incandescent oil vapour.

Approx. position: Lat. 33° 42′ 20″ N., long. 118° 17′ 35″ W.

LIGHT DESTROYED.—Information has been received that San Pedro entrance light, San Pedro Harbour, California, was destroyed 7th May, 1912. The light will be re-established as soon as practicable.

Approx. position: Lat. 33° 43′ 10″ N., long. 118° 16′ 2″ W.

SANTA BARBARA LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC CHANGED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 16 (1136) of 1912, further notice is given that on 1st May, 1912, the characteristic of Santa Barbara light, California, was changed from fixed white to flashing white every 15 seconds.

The power of the light was also increased from 520 to about 96,000 candles.

Approx. position: Lat. 34° 23′ 52″ N., long. 119° 43′ 17″ W.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY ENTRANCE.—MILE ROCKS LIGHT.—INTENSITY INCREASED.—On 9th May, 1912, the luminous power of Mile Rocks light, San Francisco Bay entrance, California, was increased from 1,200 to about 28,800 candles by changing the illuminant from oil to incandescent oil vapour.

Approx. position: Lat. 37° 47′ 35″ N., long. 122° 30′ 35″ W.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—MARE ISLAND STRAIT.—LIGHT TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 15th June, 1912, Mare Island Dike light No. 9, a fixed red light of about 42 candle-power, will be established 12 ft. above the water on a post on the outer end of the dike, on the bearings:—

Carquinez Strait Lighthouse, 63° 45′.

Mare Island Lighthouse, 297° 30′.

Starr Mill Cupola, 356° 45′.

Approx. position: Lat. 38° 4′ 12″ N., long. 122° 14′ 40″ W.

ANO NUEVO LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.—About 1st June, 1912, the characteristic of Año Nuevo light, sea-coast of California, will be changed from fixed white to intermittent white every 20 seconds—thus, light 15 seconds, eclipsed 5 seconds.

Approx. position: Lat. 37° 6′ 20″ N., long. 122° 20′ 10″ W.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—YERBA BUENA LIGHT.—INTENSITY TO BE INCREASED.—About 15th July, 1912, the intensity of Yerba Buena light, San Francisco Bay, California, will be increased from 2,500 to about 3,200 candles by substituting a 4th-order lens for the 5th-order lens heretofore used.

Approx. position: Lat. 37° 48′ 28″ N., long. 122° 21′ 41″ W.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY ENTRANCE.—FORT POINT LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC CHANGED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 10 (677) of 1912, further notice is given that on 16th April, 1912, the characteristic of Fort Point light, San Francisco Bay entrance, California, was changed from flashing every 5 seconds, alternately red and white, to intermittent white every 2 seconds—thus, light 1 second, eclipsed 1 second.

The new light has a luminous power of about 7,300 candles.

Approx. position: Lat. 37° 48′ 39″ N., long. 122° 28′ 36″ W.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—ALCATRAZ LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC CHANGED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 10 (676) of 1912, further notice is given that on 18th April, 1912, the characteristic of Alcatraz light, San Francisco Bay, California, was changed from flashing white every 15 seconds to flashing white every 5 seconds.

The improved light has a luminous power of about 22,000 candles.

Approx. position: Lat. 37° 49′ 36″ N., long. 122° 25′ 17″ W.

HUMBOLDT LIGHT-STATION.—CHARACTERISTIC OF LIGHT TO BE CHANGED.—About 22nd June, 1912, the characteristic of the light exhibited at Humboldt Light-station, sea-coast of California, will be changed from fixed white to flashing white every 5 seconds.

The intensity of the light will also be increased by changing the illuminant from oil to incandescent oil vapour.

The luminous power of the improved light will be about 41,000 candles.

Approx. position: Lat. 40° 41′ 44″ N., long. 124° 16′ 22″ W.

HUMBOLDT BAY ENTRANCE.—GAS AND WHISTLE BUOY ESTABLISHED.—WHISTLE-BUOY DISCONTINUED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 7 (464) of 1912, further notice is given that on 14th April, 1912, Humboldt outside bar gas and whistle buoy, painted in perpendicular stripes and showing a flashing white acetylene light every 10 seconds—thus, flash 2 seconds, eclipsed 8 seconds—was established in the approach to Humboldt Bay, California, in the position heretofore occupied by Humboldt outside bar whistle-buoy, which was then discontinued.

Approx. position: Lat. 40° 46′ 40″ N., long. 124° 15′ 40″ W.

HUMBOLDT BAY ENTRANCE.—BUOY MOVED.—North Spit buoy No. 5, Humboldt Bay entrance, California, has been moved and re-established on the bearings:—

Humboldt Unused Lighthouse, 17°.

Red Bluff, 145°.

Humboldt Lighthouse, 211°.

SAN DIEGO BAY.—LA PLAYA LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC CHANGED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 13 (913) of 1912, further notice is given that on 24th April, 1912, the characteristic of La Playa light, San Diego Bay, California, was changed from fixed white to flashing white every 10 seconds—thus, flash 2 seconds, eclipsed 8 seconds. The new light is an acetylene light of 350 candle-power.

Approx. position: Lat. 32° 42′ 10″ N., long. 117° 14′ 6″ W.

SANTA BARBARA CHANNEL.—RICHARDSON ROCK.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 6 (379) of 1912, further notice is given that on 22nd April, 1912, a flashing white acetylene light of about 530 candle-power, showing 1 flash every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—was established on Richardson Rock, north-westward of San Miguel Island, Santa Barbara Channel, California.

The light is exhibited 120 ft. above the water from the top of a red, square, pyramidal, skeleton tower, located on the following bearings:—

Point Conception Lighthouse, 7°.

Santa Barbara Lighthouse, 66°.

Castle Rock, right tangent, 125° 30′.

Approx. position: Lat. 34° 6′ N., long. 120° 31′ 12″ W.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—MARE ISLAND.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 8 (532) of 1912, further notice is given that on 12th March, 1912, Mare Island Dike light No. 8, a fixed white incandescent electric light, composed of 4 lamps of about 32 candle-
