CHINA SEA.
BANKA ISLAND.—NORTH-EAST COAST.—GOAT REEF.—BUOY DISCONTINUED.—The Netherlands Government has given notice that the black buoy marking Goat Reef, north-east coast of Banka Island, has been discontinued.
Approx. position: Lat. 2° 12′ 3″ S., long. 106° 29′ 6″ E.

BILLITON ISLAND.—NON-EXISTENCE OF REEFS TO NORTHWARD.—The Netherlands Government has given notice that the following reefs off the north coast of Billiton Island, China Sea, do not exist and will be expunged from the charts :—
The reef reported in 1877 by the “Empress of China” in (approximately) latitude 2° 24′ 15″ S., longitude 107° 48′ 45″ E.
The reef reported by the master of the steamer “Dordt” in (approximately) latitude 2° 26′ 30″ S., longitude 107° 51′ 20″ E.

TANJONG PANDAM ROADSTEAD.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 51 (3718) of 1911, the Netherlands Government has given notice that an intermittent red light every 4 seconds—thus, light 2 seconds, eclipsed 2 seconds—visible 10 miles, has been established in Tanjong Pandam Roadstead, west coast of Billiton Island.
The light is shown, 33 ft. above the sea, from a white skeleton iron tower and is visible over an arc of 264° from 64° to 328°.
Approx. position: Lat. 2° 44′ 18″ S., long. 107° 36′ 30″ E.
TONKIN GULF.—HA LONG BAY.—HENRIETTA CHANNEL.—CORRECTED POSITION OF SHOAL.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 47 (1923) of 1905, the French Government has given further notice that according to a recent survey the shoal with 2½ fathoms over it reported 2,789 yards 8° from Youyou Rock, Henrietta Channel, is located 1·03 miles 23° from Youyou Rock.
Approximate position of Youyou Rock: Latitude 20° 46′ 18″ N., longitude 107° 8′ 30″ E.
BRITISH COLUMBIA.
VANCOUVER ISLAND.—SOUTH-WEST COAST.—KYUQUOT SOUND.—KOKSHITTLE ARM.—ROCK DISCOVERED.—BUOY ESTABLISHED.—An uncharted rock with 5 ft. of water over it at low tide was struck by the steamer “Tees” on leaving the British Columbia Pottery Company’s Wharf in Kokshittle Arm, Kyuquot Sound, British Columbia.
A black wooden spar buoy has been moored to mark the rock in (approximately) latitude 50° 8′ 8″ N., longitude 127° 17′ 12″ W.
The rock and the shoal ground between it and the nearest bare islet are not marked by kelp. Foul ground exists between the eastern islet and the nearest shore.
Note.—There are two bare islets near the rock and not three as shown on the chart.
STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—ACTIVE PASS.—GALIANO ISLAND.—MARY ANNE POINT LIGHT.—WHITE SECTOR INSTALLED.—On 15th April, 1912, a white sector was installed in the intermittent red light on Mary Anne Point, Galiano Island, northern side of Active Pass, British Columbia.
This light now shows white from the bearing 192°, cutting Gossip Reef buoy, to the shore of Gossip Island and to the westward.
Vessels coming from the northward should pass through the white sector into the red light before hauling in for the pass.
Approx. position: Lat. 48° 51′ 29″ N., long. 123° 18′ 45″ W.

VANCOUVER ISLAND.—EAST COAST.—MORESBY PASSAGE.—CANOE ROCK.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—The Canadian Government has given notice than an unwatched, intermittent white, acetylene light, elevated 26 ft. above high water and visible 10 miles from all points of approach, has been established on Canoe Rock, Moresby Passage, east coast of Vancouver Island.
The light is exhibited from a beacon consisting of a cylindrical steel tank standing on the enlarged concrete base of the old beacon and surmounted by a pyramidal steel frame supporting the lantern.
The tank and steel frame are painted red and the base black.
Approximate position on H.O. Chart No. 2231: Latitude 48° 44′ 2″ N., longitude 123° 20′ W.
SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
FIJI ISLANDS.—KORO ISLAND.—ALLDIN POINT LIGHT REPORTED DAMAGED.—Information has been received from Captain John Kerr, of the British steamer “River Clyde,” under date of 11th February, 1912, that as the result of a severe hurricane Alldin Point light, Koro Island, Fiji Islands, is out of repair and shows fixed white instead of flashing white with 1 group of 2 flashes every 10 seconds.
Captain Kerr reports that the light will be repaired and the normal characteristic restored at an early date.
Approx. position: Lat. 17° 23′ 30″ S., long. 179° 23′ E.
VITI LEVU ISLAND.—LAUTHALA HARBOUR.—BEACONS ESTABLISHED AND BUOYS WITHDRAWN.—Information has been received from H.B.M.S. “Torch” that the following beacons have been established and buoys withdrawn in Lauthala Harbour, Viti Levu Island, Fiji Islands :—
A beacon, description not given, on the south-eastern extreme of the reef 1,800 yards 330° from the outer end of the pier on Nukulan Island. The black buoy heretofore moored in this position has been withdrawn.
A white beacon on the 1¼-fathom shoal 2,280 yards 297° from the same point.
A white beacon on a 1½-fathom shoal, not indicated on the charts, 1,840 yards 300° from the same point.
A beacon, description not given, on the northern end of the shoal 1,400 yards 298° from the same point. The black can buoy heretofore moored in this position has been withdrawn.
A black beacon on the northern end of the 2-fathom shoal 3,560 yards 129° from the flagstaff at Government House at Suva.
A black beacon on the southern side of the narrows 1,920 yards 167° from the same flagstaff. The black can buoy heretofore moored in this position has been withdrawn.
The black conical buoy heretofore moored 1,100 yards 322° from the outer end of the pier at Nukuland Island has been withdrawn.
MASILAI REEF.—WRECK.—LANDMARK.—The commander of H.B.M.S. “Torch” reports the wreck of an iron ship, forming a conspicuous landmark, lies on the outer edge of Masilai Reef, Viti Levu Island, Fiji Islands, 400 yards 164° from Masilai Reef Lighthouse.
Approx. position: Lat. 18° 8′ 15″ S., long. 178° 42′ 13″ E.
WAKAYA ISLAND.—DAVETA NI KAI-DRAI-IMBA.—BEACON ESTABLISHED.—The commander of H.B.M.S. “Torch” reports that a beacon, description not given, has been established on the south-western extreme of the reef on the northern side of Daveta Ni Kai-drai-imba Passage. Wakaya Island, Fiji Islands.
Approx. position: Lat. 17° 34′ 15″ S., long. 179° E.
VANUA LEVU ISLAND.—SONI SONI PASSAGE.—FOUL GROUND REPORTED.—The commander of H.B.M.S. “Torch” reports foul ground, the depth over which was not ascertained, in the western approach to Soni Soni Passage, Vanua Levu Island, about 1·6 miles 134° from the extremity of Vatu Vuna Point.
The symbol for a rock with less than 6 ft., marked “reported (1911),” will be placed on the charts in this position.
Approx. position: Lat. 16° 55′ 30″ S., long. 178° 58′ 40″ E.
FIJI ISLANDS.—TAVIUNI ISLAND.—TASMAN STRAIT.—ROCKS REPORTED.—The commander of H.B.M.S. “Torch” reports the following rocks in Tasman Strait, Taviuni Island, Fiji Islands :—
A rock, the depth over which is not given, 2½ miles 350° from the extremity of Thurston Point.
Approx. position: Lat. 16° 44′ 35″ S., long. 179° 49′ 20″ W.
A rock, the depth over which is not given, 3·3 miles 349° from the same point.
Approx. position: Lat. 16° 43′ 45″ S., long. 179° 49′ 35″ W.
Note.—The western extremity of Mbuimbani in line with the 950-foot summit on Rambi, bearing 340°, is said to lead westward of these dangers.
FIJI ISLANDS.—VANUA LEVU ISLAND.—CAPE UNDU.—INTENDED LIGHT.—About 1st May, 1912, a 4th-order dioptric fixed white light, elevated 127 ft. above the sea and visible 17 miles, will be established on Cape Undu, Vanua Levu Island, Fiji Islands.
The light will be shown from a hexagonal lantern on iron columns, painted white, the whole 23 ft. in height.
Approx. position. Lat. 16° 8′ S., long. 179° 56′ 30″ W.
