ARGENTINA.
BUENOS AIRES ROADSTEAD.—LIGHT-BUOY REPLACED BY LIGHT-BEACON.—The Government of Uruguay has given notice that the light-buoy, exhibiting a green light, moored at the junction of the dredged channels in the approach to Buenos Aires, Plata River, has been replaced by a beacon exhibiting a green light.
Approximate position on H.O. Chart No. 2450: Latitude 34° 38′ 30″ S., longitude 58° 15′ 38″ W.
PLATA RIVER.—LIGHT-VESSEL STILL IN POSITION.—Captain von Düring, of the German steamer “Norderney,” reports that on 8th April, 1912, Punta Indio light-vessel, Plata River, Argentina, was on its station and had not been discontinued as stated in Notice to Mariners No. 8 (524) of 1912.
The captain was also informed by the pilots that the vessel is to remain on its station.
HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
HAWAII.—NORTH-EAST COAST.—KAUHOLA POINT LIGHT.—NEW STRUCTURE.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 9 (646) of 1912, further notice is given that on 8th April, 1912, the light on Kauhola Point, north-east coast of Hawaii, heretofore shown from a pyramidal, skeleton, wooden tower, was exhibited from a lead-covered mast, with small white house with red roof at its base, located 25 ft. 90° from the former site. The old tower and the small house at its base have been removed.
The height and visibility of the light remain unchanged.
Approx. position: Lat. 20° 15′ N., long. 155° 46′ 30″ W.
MAUI ISLAND.—NORTH-EAST COAST.—PAUWALU POINT.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 10 (727) of 1912, further notice is given that on 8th April, 1912, an unwatched flashing white acetylene light of 240 candle-power, showing 1 flash every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—was established on Pauwalu Point, north-east coast of Maui Island, Hawaiian Islands.
The light is exhibited 120 ft. above the water and 16 ft. above the ground from a white, pyramidal, skeleton iron tower on the roof of a white iron service room, located on the bearings:—
Pukaulua Point, tangent, 117° 45′.
Honokala Point, tangent, 307° 45′, distant ⅔ miles.
Approx. position: Lat. 20° 51′ 45″ N., long. 156° 8′ W.
OAHU.—PEARL HARBOUR.—BEACONS TO BE DISCONTINUED.—About 1st June, 1912, the following beacons at Pearl Harbour, Hawaiian Islands, will be discontinued:—
Entrance Range Beacons.
Inner Channel Range Beacons.
Iroquois Point Beacon 13.
West Lech Beacon 14.
KAUAI ISLAND.—KAHALA POINT LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.—NEW STRUCTURE.—About 30th June, 1912, the characteristic of Kahala Point light, north-eastern coast of Kauai Island, Hawaiian Islands, will be changed from fixed red to flashing white every 1⅔ seconds—thus, flash ⅓ second, eclipsed 1⅓ seconds. The light will be an unwatched light of 235 candle-power, exhibited 37 ft. above the water and 14 ft. above the ground from a white, pyramidal, skeleton, iron tower, erected on the roof of a white iron service room, located 2 yards 89° from the present light.
The old mast and service room will be removed.
Approx. position: Lat. 22° 9′ N., long., 159° 17′ 40″ W.
BRITISH COLUMBIA.
BAYNES SOUND.—DENMAN ISLAND LIGHT.—RED SECTORS INSTALLED.—About 1st May, 1912, two red sectors will be installed in Denman Island light, Baynes Sound, British Columbia. The light will then show red over the shoals extending westward from Reef Point and the shoals extending westward from Village Point, and white over an arc of 176° from 143° to 319°.
The light will appear red to vessels coming from the northward when eastward of the bearing 143° and to vessels coming from the southward when eastward of the bearing 319°.
Approx. position: Lat. 49° 32′ 15″ N., long. 124° 49′ 12″ W.
STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—FRASER RIVER SAND HEADS.—CHANGE IN POSITIONS OF LIGHT-VESSEL AND GAS AND WHISTLE BUOY POSTPONED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 12 (837) of 1912, the Canadian Government has given further notice that the intended interchange in the positions of Fraser River light-vessel and Fraser River gas and whistle buoy, Fraser River Sand Heads, Strait of Georgia, has not yet been made, and will not be made until further notice.
BURRARD INLET.—ATKINSON POINT LIGHT-STATION.—NEW LIGHT AND FOG-SIGNAL TO BE ESTABLISHED.—The Canadian Government has given notice that during the present summer a new light and a fog-alarm will be established on Atkinson Point, Burrard Inlet, Strait of Georgia.
The new light will be a 3rd-order, dioptric, double-flashing white light, exhibited from a reinforced-concrete tower.
The fog-alarm will be a diaphone operated by compressed air.
Further notice will be given.
Approx. position: Lat. 49° 19′ 32″ N., long. 123° 15′ 30″ W.
AFRICA.
EAST COAST.—DELAGOA BAY.—LOURENÇO MARQUES.—INTENDED LIGHTS.—CHANGE IN BUOYS.—DIRECTIONS.—The Portuguese Government has given notice that two lights are to be established at Lourenço Marques, east coast of Africa, one on Catembe Bank and one on Leck Reef. Catembe Bank light will be a fixed red light which in line with the present Catembe light will lead through Polana Channel.
Approx. position: Lat. 25° 59′ 26″ S., long. 32° 35′ 3″ E.
Leck Reef will be a provisional fixed green light established in (approximately) latitude 25° 54′ 11″ S., longitude 32° 48′ 37″ E.
Chefina Shoal buoy, red, will be replaced by a light-buoy exhibiting a green light.
Approximate position on H.O. Chart No. 2636: Latitude 26° 56′ 20″ S., longitude 32° 41′ 30″ E.
Sherra Shoal buoy, black, will be replaced by a light-buoy exhibiting a red light.
Approx. position: Lat. 26° 56′ S., long. 32° 43′ 18″ E.
The light-buoys, exhibiting red and green lights, marking Polana Channel will be discontinued when Catembe front range light is established.
Directions.—Vessels entering should steer for Leck Shoal light, after passing Cockburn Shoal light; thence to the light-buoy exhibiting a red light, passing it on the port hand; thence to Chefina Shoal light-buoy, passing it on the starboard hand; thence through Polana Channel, on the Catembe Range to Reuben Point light-buoy.

NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
GANGES ISLAND.—INFORMATION.—The master of the British steamer “Seminole” reports that on 28th February, 1912, he passed over the assigned position of Ganges Island, North Pacific Ocean, steering west on a parallel of latitude, but saw nothing to indicate its existence.
The ship’s position at 8 a.m. on the above date, by observations, was latitude 30° 49′ N., longitude 155° 22′ E. A true west course was steered, the position at noon being in latitude 30° 49′ N., obtained by a meridian altitude of the sun, and longitude 154° 31′ E., obtained by dead reckoning from the a.m. sight.
A true west course was continued from noon until 4 p.m., the ship’s position at that time, by dead reckoning being latitude 30° 49′ N., longitude 153° 41′ E.
A bright lookout was kept from aloft and from the bridge throughout the day, but no land or anything resembling broken water was seen.
The weather was bright and clear.
URUGUAY.
PLATA RIVER.—MONTE VIDEO HARBOUR APPROACH.—POSITION OF GAS-BUOY.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 11 (745) of 1912, further information has been received that the light-buoy recently established to mark the axis of the entrance channel, Monte Video Harbour, Uruguay, is located 1½ miles seaward of the outer pair of light-buoys.
Note.—This buoy also carries a whistle.
SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
FIJI ISLANDS.—VITI LEVU ISLAND.—SUVA HARBOUR.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—The commander of the gunboat “Zelée” reports under date of 19th February, 1912, that a white lantern light has been established on the beacon at the southern extremity of the reef extending southward from Clifty Point, Suva Harbour, Viti Levu Island, Fiji Islands.
Approx. position: Lat. 18° 7′ 40″ S., long. 178° 25′ E.
