the Ngaruawahia Town District on the 20th day of July, 1912, on a proposal to borrow the sum of £3,500, by way of special loan, for the purpose of installing an electric lighting and power plant within the said town district: Total number of valid votes recorded, 87; for the proposal, 67; against the proposal, 20.
As the total number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal is not less than three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll, I hereby declare the proposal to be carried.

Notice cancelling that fixing Closing-hours of Drapers’ Shops in the Borough of Thames under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the drapers’ shops in the Borough of Thames, has been forwarded to me, desiring that the notice gazetted on the 7th day of December, 1911, fixing the closing-hours of all drapers, tailors, and mercers’ shops, combined and separately, within the Borough of Thames, be cancelled so far as it affects drapers: And whereas the Thames Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the drapers’ shops within the Borough of Thames:
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 29th day of July, 1912, the said notice shall be cancelled accordingly so far as it affects drapers’ shops.

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of all Shops in the Tolaga Riding of the Cook County under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the Tolaga Riding, Cook County, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all shops in the riding shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: January, February, March, September, October, November, December, close on Mondays and Thursdays at 8 p.m., Wednesday 1 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays at 6 p.m., Saturday 9 p.m.; April, May, June, July, August, close Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays at 6 p.m., Wednesday 1 p.m., Saturday 9 p.m.: And whereas the Cook County Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the Tolaga Riding of Cook County:
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 29th day of July, 1912, all shops in the Tolaga Riding of Cook County shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.
The notice gazetted on 24th March, 1910, fixing the closing-hours of all shops is hereby cancelled accordingly.

NORTH COAST.—MEINDERTS REEF LIGHT.—DISCOLOURED WATER REPORTED TO WESTWARD.—Discoloured water, apparently indicating a shoal, has been reported 5½ miles 277° from Meinderts Reef light, north coast of Java.
Approx. position: Lat. 7° 40′ S., long. 114° 20′ 30″ E.
EAST COAST.—BALI STRAIT.—POINT LICHIN.—NON-EXISTENCE OF LIGHT-BUOY.—WRECK.—Mr. Wm. Clark, second officer of the steamer “Merelau,” reports under date of 3rd April, 1912, that the light-buoy shown on the charts off Point Lichin, Bali Strait, east coast of Java, does not exist.
NOTE.—The wreck shown on the charts off this point lies well in on the spit, and should any part of it be mistaken for the buoy a vessel might be led into danger.
Approx. position: Lat. 8° 7′ 20″ S., long. 114° 25′ 40″ E.
