(a.) Satisfies the conditions for a University Junior Scholarship, or for a Senior National Scholarship, and obtains “credit” at the examination for such scholarships; or

(b.) Has within one year and six months immediately preceding gained a higher leaving certificate; or

(c.) Has within one year and six months immediately preceding completed his term of service as a pupil-teacher or probationer in some education district in accordance with regulations and to the satisfaction of the Education Board of that district, and declares his intention of entering a recognized training college on the completion of the tenure of his bursary; or

(d.) Has completed his course of training at a recognized training college; or

(e.) Has gained a teacher’s certificate of a class not lower than Class C.

  1. Applications, made in due form and accompanied by the necessary certificates, must be lodged by candidates with the Registrar of the university college attended on or before the 1st day of May in any year.

  2. The term of a bursary shall be three years if the holder so long fulfils the prescribed conditions: Provided that on a report from the Professorial Board the Minister may extend any bursary for one year longer.

  3. A bursary shall not be tenable with a University Junior Scholarship, a Senior National Scholarship, or any other scholarship, exhibition, or bursary the value of which exceeds £20 a year.

  4. A bursary may be held at any university college or at a school of agriculture recognized by the University. In all other respects the holder of a bursary must comply with the conditions prescribed in the case of holders of Senior National Scholarships, and generally what is permitted to the holder of a Senior National Scholarship may, mutatis mutandis, be permitted to the holder of a bursary; provided that the holder of a bursary under paragraph (c), (d), or (e) of clause 1 hereof must follow a course in arts, science, or agriculture.

  5. There shall be paid to, or on behalf of, each holder of a bursary the amount of the fees payable by him to the university college in respect to such classes as the Professorial Board shall approve for him, and, in addition, the university fees for the degree examinations for which he sits: Provided that if the college and university fees payable by any holder in any year be more than £20 in all, the sum of £20 only shall be paid to or for such holder in respect of such fees.

  6. On the receipt of an unfavourable report on the holder of a bursary from the Professorial Board, or from the Council of the university college attended, the tenure of the bursary shall be forthwith determined.

Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of a Road in Block V, Waihi South Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of the Public Works Act, 1908, that the road described in the Schedule hereto was, on the 24th day of November, 1909, taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 28th day of April, 1909.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block VI, Rotoiti Survey District, for the Purposes of a Native School.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a Native School in Block VI, Rotoiti Survey District, and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Te Ngae, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works, at Wellington.

NOTICE.—ARTHUR THOMAS LEACH, Esq., of 410 Bourke Street, Melbourne, Victoria, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria, has this day been appointed by His Honour the Chief Justice a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in Victoria, under the 47th section of the Judicature Act, 1908, for the purpose of administering and taking all such oaths, affidavits, and affirmations as in the said section mentioned.
