ROCK NEAR ENTRANCE TO PATERSON INLET, STEWART ISLAND.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 22nd April, 1912.
THE following Notice to Mariners appears in the abstract of monthly Notices to Mariners issued by the Board of Trade:—
“A rock carrying 4 fathoms, usually indicated by tide rips, exists in the approach to Paterson Inlet, 6¼ cables 31° (N. 12° E. mag.) from the north extreme of Fish Rock (46° 52′ S., 168° 11¾′ E.), and 307° (N. 72° W. mag.) from the S.W. extreme of Boat Refuge Island. Note.—‘Position approx.’ has been charted against this rock.”
As no report has been made to this Department of the existence of this rock, inquiry has, since the receipt of the Board of Trade notice, been made, from which it appears that the existence of the rock has been known for several years. A survey of the rock will be made by the “Hinemoa” in order to obtain further particulars regarding it.
