NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for selection on renewable lease; and applications will be received at this office and the local Lands Office, Timaru, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 15th day of April, 1912, under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1908.

DESCRIPTIONS OF SECTIONS.

Section 1.—Altitude, from 880 ft. to 1,140 ft. Chiefly in tussock and native grass; about 120 acres have been ploughed, and are now covered with Poa pratensis and tussock; all rather steep, excepting 20 acres of flat fronting main road; well watered by running stream; fair soil. Situated twenty-three miles from Timaru by well-formed road. Improvements which are included in the price of section consist of 148 chains of fencing, valued at £73.

Section 2.—Altitude, from 40 ft. to 1,080 ft. Chiefly in tussock; about 100 acres have been ploughed, and are now covered with Poa pratensis and tussock; 160 acres are flat, dry, and stony; balance undulating and rather steep terrace, all fair soil; well watered. Situated twenty-two miles from Timaru by well-formed road. Improvements which are included in the price of the section consist of 186 chains of fencing, valued at £84 10s.

Section 3.—Altitude, 760 ft. to 980 ft. About 84 acres in English grass; balance in tussock and native grass; 150 acres consist of rather shingly flat in tussock; balance down and terrace land; well watered; soil fair. Situated twenty-one miles and a half from Timaru by well-formed road. Improvements which are included in the price of the section consist of 234 chains of fencing, valued at £108 10s.

Section 4.—Altitude, 740 ft. to 900 ft. About 120 acres in rye-grass and clover; balance in tussock and native grass; 150 acres flat land stony in places; balance down and terrace land; well watered by creeks; soil fairly good. Situated twenty miles from Timaru by well-formed road. Improvements which are included in the price of the section consist of 194 chains of fencing, valued at £97.

Section 5.—Altitude, from 650 ft. to 1,200 ft. Chiefly in tussock and other native grasses; about 90 acres have been ploughed, and are now in English grass; balance broken tussock land, good soil, with 15 acres of flat at north-west corner; well watered by springs and creeks. Situated twenty-two miles and a half from Timaru by well-formed road. Improvements which are included in the price of the section consist of 295 chains of fencing, valued at £101 14s.

Section 6.—Altitude, 640 ft. to 930 ft. About 140 acres are in rye-grass and clover; balance in tussock and Native grass; 35 acres of flat, a little stony; remainder undulating and broken land; all well watered; soil fair to medium. Situated twenty-one miles and three-quarters from Timaru by well-formed road. The improvements which are included in the price of section consist of 256 chains of fencing, valued at £100 15s.

Section 7.—Altitude, 610 ft. to 900 ft. About 274 acres in English grass; remainder in tussock; 72 acres flat and stony, the balance terrace and easy-sloping land; fairly good soil; well watered. Situated twenty miles and three-quarters from Timaru by well-formed road. Improvements which are included in the price of section consist of 238 chains of fencing, valued at £96.

Section 8.—Altitude, 600 ft. to 870 ft. About 185 acres in rape and turnips; 60 acres in English grass, and the balance in tussock and Native grass; 60 acres shingly flat; remainder undulating and terrace land; well watered. Situated twenty miles and a half from Timaru by well-formed road. Improvements which are included in the price of the section consist of 222 chains of fencing, valued at £90 10s.

Section 9.—Altitude, 590 ft. to 860 ft. Consists of 15 acres shingly flat, the remainder undulating and terrace land, of which about 140 acres are rape, 40 acres English grass, 2 acres plantation four years old, balance steep face in tussock; well watered; soil good. Situated twenty miles from Timaru by well-formed road. Improvements which are included in the price of the section consist of 238 chains of fencing, valued at £90; 197 chains at 9s., £88 13s. Improvements which are not included in the price of the section, but which must be paid for separately, consist of a nearly new combined wool-shed (five stands) and stable (eight stalls), cart-shed, under one roof, built or iron on totara piles, £350, and a three-roomed cottage built of wood and roofed with iron, tongued-and-grooved lining, £200; total, £550.

Section 10.—Altitude, from 560 ft. to 930 ft. Flat, hilly, and undulating land of good quality, part limestone formation, of which about 182 acres are in rye-grass and clover; 5 acres plantation and garden; balance in tussock, native grass intermixed with surface-sown English grass; nearly all can be ploughed; well watered. Situated nineteen miles and a half from Timaru by well-formed road. Improvements which are included in the price of the section consist of 437 chains of fencing and 5 acres plantation and garden, all valued at £244. Improvements which are not included in price of section, but have to be paid for separately, consist of a nearly new, well-kept ten-roomed dwellinghouse with verandah, built of wood and roofed with iron, lathed and plastered, every convenience, concrete dairy and storeroom, septic tank, &c., £900. Wood-and-iron four-stall stable and harness-room, trap-house and motor-shed on concrete foundations, £150: total, £1,050; cost much more.

Section 11.—Altitude, from 640 ft. to 950 ft. Consists of about 50 acres flat, 160 acres easy ridges, balance steeper, but part ploughable: of this, 210 acres are in rape, turnips, and oats; balance tussock, with native and English grasses; soil all good, part limestone formation, flat shingly in patches; well watered by creeks and springs. Situated twenty miles and three-quarters from Timaru by well-formed road. Improvements which are included in price of section consist of 240 chains of fencing, valued at £89 10s.

Section 12.—Altitude, 570 ft. to 1,174 ft. About 50 acres flat in rape and turnips; 45 acres in English grass (old); balance in tussock, native and English grasses; very broken ground, but good limestone soil; fairly well watered by springs and small gullies. Situated twenty miles and a quarter from Timaru by well-formed road. The improvements which are included in price of section consist of 358 chains of fencing, valued at £117 10s.

Section 13.—Altitude, 570 ft. to 1,160 ft. About 35 acres of rather shingly flat, now in rape, turnips, and oats; 40 acres English grass (old) and 2 acres rape; total under
