SAN PABLO BAY.—BUOY CHANGED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 1 (27) of 1912, further notice is given that on 1st February, 1912, Lower Mid-channel gas and whistle buoy, moored at the lower entrance to the dredged channel in San Pablo Bay, California, was replaced by a gas and bell buoy, painted in perpendicular stripes, showing an intermittent white light every 20 seconds—thus, light 10 seconds, eclipsed 10 seconds.

Approx. position : Lat. 38° 1′ 36″ N., long. 122° 22′ 48″ W.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY ENTRANCE.—MILE ROCKS LIGHT-STATION.—CHARACTERISTIC OF LIGHT TO BE CHANGED.—About 30th March, 1912, the characteristic of the light exhibited at Mile Rocks Light-station, San Francisco Bay entrance, California, will be changed from fixed red to intermittent white every 20 seconds—thus, light 10 seconds, eclipsed 2½ seconds; light 5 seconds, eclipsed 2½ seconds. The luminous power of the light will be increased from about 300 to 1,200 candles.

Approx. position : Lat. 37° 47′ 35″ N., long. 122° 30′ 35″ W.

BELL-BUOY TO BE REPLACED BY GAS AND WHISTLE BUOY.—About 15th March, 1912, Inside Bar gas and whistle buoy 2A, conical in shape, with pyramidal skeleton superstructures, showing an intermittent white light every 10 seconds—thus, light 5 seconds, eclipsed 5 seconds—will be established in the entrance to San Francisco Bay, California, about 350 yards southward of the present position of Inside Bar bell-buoy, which will then be discontinued.

Approximate position of bell-buoy : Latitude 37° 47′ N., longitude 122° 34′ 34″ W.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.

KAUAI.—SOUTH-WEST COAST.—LAE O KOKOLE LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC TO BE CHANGED.—NEW STRUCTURE.—About 15th March, 1912, the fixed red lens-lantern light at Lae o Kokole Light-station, south-west coast of Kauai Island, Hawaiian Islands, will be replaced by an unwatched flashing white, acetylene light of 235-candle power, showing 1 flash every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 seconds, eclipsed 2·7 seconds.

The new light will be exhibited 34 ft. above the water and 16 ft. above the ground from a white, pyramidal, skeleton, iron tower on the roof of a white, iron, service-room, located 7 yards 205° from the site of the present light.

The old mast and service-room will be removed before exhibiting the light from the new tower.

Approx. position : Lat. 21° 59′ N., long. 159° 45′ W.

SOUTHERN SHORE.—HANAPEPE BAY.—LIGHT TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 15th March, 1912, an unwatched intermittent white acetylene light of 235-candle power every 2 seconds—thus, light 1 second, eclipsed 1 second—will be established at Hanapepe, southern shore of Kauai Island, Hawaiian Islands.

The light will be exhibited 34 ft. above the water and 16 ft. above the ground from a white, pyramidal, skeleton, iron tower erected on the roof of a white, iron, service-room, on the bearings :—

Makahueno Point Lighthouse, 98° 30′.

Niihau Island, left tangent, 258°.

Lehua Island, right tangent, 285° 15′.

Approx. position : Lat. 21° 53′ 45″ N., long. 159° 36′ W.

CHINA SEA.

BILLITON ISLAND.—NORTH COAST.—REEF REPORTED.—The commander of the Netherlands surveying vessel “Sumbawa” reports the discovery of a reef, with a least depth of 4½ fathoms over it, northward of Billiton Island, China Sea, in (approximately) latitude 2° 30′ 30″ S., longitude 107° 47′ 48″ E.

CHINA.

YANGTZE RIVER.—KING KAU ROCKS RANGE-BEACONS.—DESCRIPTION.—The navigating officer of the U.S.S. “Quiros” reports under date of 16th December, 1911, that the front beacon of the King Kau Rocks range, Yangtze River, China, consists of a mast, painted white, surmounted by a white triangular day-mark, point up, and that the rear beacon consists of a mast, painted black, surmounted by a white triangular day-mark, point down.

Approximate position of rear light : Latitude 30° 16′ N., longitude 114° 8′ E.

CHINA SEA.

SINGAPORE STRAIT.—KILA ISLAND.—INFORMATION CONCERNING SHOAL.—Information has been received that the shoal with 4½ fathoms over it, shown on the charts south-eastward of Kila Island, Singapore Strait, China Sea, consists of stones, and dries at low water.

Approx. position : Lat. 1° 7′ 6″ N., long. 103° 53′ 36″ E.

EASTERN APPROACH.—RUMENIA SHOALS AND NORTH PATCH.—HYDROGRAPHIC INFORMATION.—A recent survey of Rumenia Shoals and North Patch, eastern approach to Singapore Strait, by H.B.M. surveying vessel “Waterwitch” has revealed the existence of shoal heads hitherto unknown. These recently discovered heads are shown on the accompanying sketch, which is a reproduction of a portion of H.O. Chart No. 1205.

TASMANIA.

Notice to Mariners.

On and after the night of the 26th inst., the Huon Light (extreme of One-tree Point, R. Huon) will be occulting, the periods of light and darkness being approximately 20 seconds and 5 seconds respectively. Illuminant, acetylene.

On and after the night of the 27th inst., the Hope Island Light (eastern extreme of Hope Island, Port Esperance) will be occulting, the periods of light and darkness being approximately 10 seconds and 5 seconds respectively. Illuminant, acetylene.

The height of the focal plane of the Huon Light is 25 ft. above high water, and the height of the tower is 27 ft.

The height of the focal plane of the Hope Island Light is 37 ft. above high water, and the height of the tower is 18 ft.
