TONGA (FRIENDLY) ISLANDS.—REEF REPORTED TO EASTWARD.—Captain Theodore Johnson, of the American schooner “Albert Meyer,” reports that on 6th June, 1911, he discovered a reef, with not more than 10 or 12 ft. of water over it, eastward of the Tonga Islands, South Pacific Ocean, in (approximately) latitude 20° 53' S., longitude 172° 4' W.

Captain Johnson states that the reef extended in an east-southeast-west-northwest direction for about 3 miles, and appeared to be steep-to, but as the sea was very smooth there were no breakers observed.

The reef was made out by discolouration, and was closely examined as the vessel passed within ⅓ mile of it.
