Notice of Resolution recommending Withdrawal of Land from the Operations of the Kauri-gum Industry Act, 1908, and its Amendments.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor in Council, acting under the powers and authorities conferred upon him by section 33 of the Kauri-gum Industry Act, 1908, and section 9 of the Kauri-gum Industry Amendment Act, 1910, that a resolution has been passed by the Auckland Land Board certifying that to the best of their knowledge and belief the portion of Towai No. 1 Kauri-gum Reserve described in the Schedule hereto is no longer required for the purpose of gum-digging, and recommending the Governor to issue an Order in Council declaring the said areas to be no longer subject to the Kauri-gum Industry Act, 1908. Any objections to this proposal must be sent to His Excellency the Governor within two months from the date hereof.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Auckland Land District, containing by admeasurement 4 acres 1 rood 15 perches, more or less, situated in Block V, Hukerenui Survey District, and being part of the Towai No. 1 Kauri-gum Reserve, set apart by Order in Council dated 12th April, 1899, and published in New Zealand Gazette of 13th April, 1899, page 756. Bounded towards the north-east by the Kawakawa-Grahamtown Railway, 1100 links; towards the south-east by a public road, 620 links; towards the south and west generally by the aforesaid public road, 12, 210, 250, 100, 650, and 185 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. 1911/711, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands, Wellington, and thereon edged red.

INDIAN OCEAN.

BAY OF BENGAL.—HUGLI RIVER APPROACH.—During the S.W. monsoon period, 15th March to 31st Oct., the pilot-vessel on station at the Sandheads, cruising ground which is about 8 miles, srd. or S.-wrd. from ern. chan. lt.-v. (21° ½′ N., 88° 12′ E.), will show for 1 min., every ½ hour, a searchlight beam at an elev. of 30°, the beam will revolve from E. to W. through S. and back again. Note.—A note with regard to this lt. has been charted. Aug.

HUGLI RIVER.—SAUGAR ISL. Lt.-h.—This lt.-h. has been moved, 8·2 cables N. 20° E., and now lies in 21° 39½′ N., 88° 2¾′ E.; elev. 84 ft. The chars. of the lt. are unaltered. Aug.

EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO, ETC.

SINGAPORE STRAIT.—WRN. APPROACH.—Several shoals, not hitherto charted, exist in the wrn. approach to the strait, as shown on the accompanying reproduction of portions of Chart No. 2404. Position.—1° 13′ N., 103° 43′ E. Aug.

CHINA SEA, ETC.

CHUSAN ARCHIP.—STEEP ISL.—The fog-gun on this isl. (30° 12½′ N., 122° 35′ E.) has been replaced by a fog-siren giving 2 blasts every 1½ mins. : Blast 6 secs., silence 3 secs. ; blast 3 secs., silence 78 secs. As the above fog-siren is ineffective to the srd., pending other arrangements, the fog-gun sigs. will continue to be made to vessels approaching from the srd., but will be disc. as regards vessels approaching from the nrd. Aug.

HIE CHE CHIN BAY.—A gp. fl. white lt., with 3 short fls. in quick succ. every 20 secs., vis. around except where obsc. by the land, elev. 160 ft., R. 19 miles, is exh. from the summit of Chilang Rk., in 22° 39′ N., 115° 34¼′ E. The temp. gp. occ. lt. has been disc. Aug.

CALIFORNIA.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—SUISUN BAY.—ARMY POINT.—GAS-BOUY ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 26 (1820) of 1911, further notice is given that on 20th July, 1911, a gas-buoy painted red and black in horizontal bands, and showing an intermittent white light every 20 seconds—thus, light 10 seconds, eclipsed 10 seconds—was established off Army Point, Suisun Bay, California, in place of Army Point buoy, a second-class nun, which was then discontinued.

Approx. position : Lat. 38° 3′ N., long. 122° 6′ 8″ W.

PUNTA GORDA.—RODGERS BREAK.—BUOY TO BE REPLACED BY WHISTLE-BOUY.—About 20th August, 1911, Rodgers Break buoy, R. B. 4, moored about 4½ miles south-eastward of Punta Gorda, sea-coast of California, will be replaced by a whistle-buoy.

Further notice will be given.

Approx. position : Lat. 40° 11′ 50″ N., long. 124° 18′ 30″ W.

ANO NUEVO LIGHT-STATION.—LIGHT TO BE MOVED.—HEIGHT AND INTENSITY TO BE INCREASED.—About 10th September, 1911, the fixed white light on Año Nuevo Island, sea-coast of California, will be moved about 90 yards 50° from its present position and re-established 65 ft. above high water on the top of a white hexagonal tank-house. The light will at the same time be changed from a lens lantern to a 4th-order light, with incandescent petroleum vapour as an illuminant.

Approx. position : Lat. 37° 6′ 20″ N., long. 122° 20′ 10″ W.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY ENTRANCE.—COLOUR OF BUOY CHANGED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 26 (1819) of 1911, further notice is given that on 1st August, 1911, the colour of South Shoal buoy, San Francisco Bay entrance, California, was changed from red and black horizontal stripes to red. The buoy was numbered 2.

Approx. position : Lat. 37° 44′ 23″ N., long. 122° 36′ 22″ W.

OREGON.

UMPQUA RIVER.—LIGHTS TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 1st September, 1911, the following lights will be established in the Umpqua River, Oregon :—

Umpqua River Range Lights: Two range lights to lead across the bar at the entrance to the river.

The front light will be a fixed white post-lantern light shown 20 ft. above the water from a cross-arm attached to a white post on the sand-shelf at the southern side of the entrance, on the bearings—

Umpqua River Life-Saving Station, 26°.

Winchester Bay Entrance, southern point, tangent, 36° 30′.

Umpqua River Lighthouse, 203° 45′.

The rear light will be a fixed white post-lantern light shown about 210 ft. above the water from a cross-arm attached to a post located about 250 yards 80° from the front light.

West Side Channel Light: A fixed white post-lantern light exhibited 12 ft. above the water from a cross-arm attached to a 3-pile dolphin erected in about 9 ft. of water on the western side of the channel over the flats abreast of Brushy Hill, on the bearings—

Umpqua River Lighthouse, 204° 30′.

Stage House, 237° 45′.

Barretts House, 198° 45′.

Ballast Point Light: A fixed red post-lantern light, exhibited 12 ft. above the water from a cross-arm attached to a 3-pile dolphin erected in about 6 ft. of water at the north-western end of the sand-spit forming the bend of the river below Gardiner, on the bearings—

Gardiner Mill Wharf, right tangent, 113° 30′.

Reeds Cannery, 134° 30′.

Stage House, 218° 30′.

North Side Channel Light: A fixed white post-lantern light exhibited 12 ft. above the water from an arm attached to a 3-pile dolphin erected in about 6 ft. of water at the northern side of the channel, about 1½ miles below Gardiner, on the bearings—

Gardiner Mill Wharf, right tangent, 136° 30′.

Reeds Cannery, 165° 30′.

Stage House, 228°.
