Flat to hilly country; about 60 acres swamp, 30 acres light mixed forest comprising rimu, totara, puriri, tanekaha, manuka, karaka, rewarewa, mapau, &c., with medium undergrowth of punga, nikau, supplejack, kiekie, and neinei; balance open fern and scrub land. Soil generally inferior clay, on sandstone formation; well watered by small streams and swamps. Situated about one mile from Whananaki by tidal river.

Clay soil, on papa formation; well watered by a stream. Situated one mile and a half from Whananaki by tidal stream. There is an old house on the section, but it is in bad repair, and practically valueless.

Inferior clay soil, on sandstone formation; fairly watered by swampy gullies. Situated three miles and a half from Albany—two miles and a half formed dray-road, balance track that can be used for wheeled traffic.

Altitude, 150 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. A small portion undulating, balance broken; all fern and manuka country, except about 1 acre scrubby bush and a few kauri rickers. Soil inferior clay, on sandstone formation; fairly watered by small streams. Situated three miles and three-quarters from Waiwera—two miles cart-road, remainder track that can be used for bullock-drays.

Altitude, 200 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land; a small portion broken, covered with fern and manuka scrub. Clay soil, fair to poor in quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by swampy streams. Situated three miles from Albany by cart-road.

Altitude, 500 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land, covered with mixed forest comprising tawa, rata, mahoe, &c., with thick undergrowth of supplejack, &c. Soil of good quality, on papa formation; fairly watered by streams. Situated nine miles from Kinohaku Settlement—six miles by formed road, two miles of which is metalled; remainder by formed 6 ft. track.

Altitude, 100 ft. to 918 ft. above sea-level. Broken land, covered with mixed forest comprising tawa, rata, mahoe, &c., with thick undergrowth of supplejack, &c. Soil of fairly good quality, on papa formation; fairly well watered by streams. Situated nine miles from Kinohaku Post Office—two miles metalled road, four miles formed cart-road, remainder formed 6 ft. track, except the last 15 chains, which is unformed.

WHANGAREI COUNTY.—RUAKAKA PARISH.

Altitude, 100 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, with level patches on spurs; about 10 acres mixed forest comprising tawa, taraire, manuka, birch, &c.; balance scrub and tall manuka. Soil loam and clay, with patches of pipeclay, on sandstone formation; watered by springs and small watercourses. Situated fourteen miles from Marsden Point—eight miles formed road, and six miles unformed.

Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-seventh day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eleven; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.
