Notice to Mariners No. 123 of 1911.
WANGANUI RIVER ENTRANCE.

THE Wanganui Harbour Board has notified that on and after the 9th October, 1911, the white lights at outer ends of moles at the entrance to the Wanganui River will be replaced by a red light at seaward end of each mole.

Notice to Mariners No. 124 of 1911.
POVERTY BAY.—TUAHINE POINT NEW LIGHTHOUSE.

Wellington, N.Z., 3rd October, 1911.
NOTICE is hereby given that a new concrete lighthouse has been built on the rock at the end of Tuahine Point, at the water’s edge, about 200 ft. to south-east of old light. On and after Monday, the 16th October, the old light will be discontinued, and a light of same character—viz., a white occulting light, flash showing 2 seconds, followed by an eclipse for 6 seconds—will be shown from the new tower.
The height of the light is 53 ft. above H.W., and it should be seen from seaward (except when obscured by the mainland and outlying islets) over an arc of 253° between the bearings of S. 34° W. round by north to S. 73° E., and should be visible for a distance of thirteen miles. The light will be unwatched, burning acetone acetylene gas.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Hairdressers’ and Tobacconists’ Shops in the Town District of Martinborough under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops, combined and separately, in the Town District of Martinborough, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the town district shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8 p.m., Thursday at 1 p.m., Saturday at 10.30 p.m.: And whereas the Martinborough Town Board has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops, combined and separately, within the Town District of Martinborough:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 9th day of October, 1911, all hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops (combined and separately) in the Town District of Martinborough shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Watchmakers’ and Jewellers’ Shops in the Borough of Wanganui under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops carrying on business as watchmakers and jewellers in the Borough of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6.15 p.m.; Saturday, 9.30 p.m., excepting on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th December and on New Year’s Eve: And whereas the Wanganui Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops carrying on business as watchmakers and jewellers within the Borough of Wanganui:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 9th day of October, 1911, all such shops in the Borough of Wanganui shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.
Mines Department,
Wellington, 14th February, 1910.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.) per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:—

That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on or before the 31st March, 1911, and the remaining two-thirds on or before the 31st March, 1912.

No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose certificate alone the bonus will be paid.

In the event of more than one person producing the required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be paid until at least one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.

Bonus on Mineral Oil produced in New Zealand.

Wellington, 21st December, 1910.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £10,000 will be paid for the production of mineral oil as under:—
- (a.) £2,500 to be paid on proof being submitted that not less than 250,000 gallons of marketable crude oil has been won.
(b.) £2,500 to be paid on proof being submitted that not less than 500,000 gallons of marketable crude oil has been won.
(c.) £2,500 to be paid on proof being submitted that not less than 1,000,000 gallons of marketable crude oil has been won.
(d.) The balance of £2,500 to be paid to the person or company who first produces by his or its own refining plant 500,000 gallons of refined mineral oil.
“Marketable crude oil” shall contain not less than 90 per cent. of products (excluding water) which can be obtained by distillation.
“Refined mineral oil” may include benzine, petrol, kerosene, or lubricating-oils.
The illuminating-oil in the refined state to have a specific gravity of 0·814 to 0·830, and a flashpoint of not less than 83° Fahr. by the Abel closed test.

Notice of intention to claim the aforesaid bonus must be given in writing to the Minister of Mines not later than 31st March, 1912.

The claim must be made and the conditions duly fulfilled on or before the 31st March, 1915.
