The settlement comprises level and undulating land adjoining Otahuhu Railway-station, nine miles from Auckland on the Main Trunk line. There is a good railway service between Otahuhu and Auckland, and the allotments are eminently suited for sites for homes for persons employed in the city. The soil is volcanic, of first-class quality.

Opening Land in Auckland Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-seventh day of November, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to section one hundred and thirty-five of the said Act, as it contains, or is supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—COROMANDEL COUNTY.—HARATAUNGA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Second-class Land.

Altitude, 250 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Broken land, about three-fourths mixed forest, mostly tawa and rata, three dry kauri-trees, with light undergrowth of supplejack, ferns, pukapuka, &c., balance fern land. Clay soil inferior to medium in quality, on slate formation; well watered by streams. Situated three miles from Port Charles—two miles and a half formed 6 ft. track, remainder unformed.

Altitude, 800 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level. Rough and broken land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising kahikatea, rimu, rata, tawa, puriri, taraire, kohekohe,

towai, rewarewa, miro, and tawhero, with thick undergrowth of supplejack, punga, nikau, kiekie, karamu, wharangi, and whauwhau. Soil of good quality but rather stony, on slate formation; well watered by streams. Situated nine miles from Opononi—six miles 6 ft. bridle-track, balance unformed.

Altitude, 800 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level. Broken land, steep along Whirinaki River, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising kahikatea, rimu, rata, tawa, puriri, &c., with thick undergrowth of supplejack, punga, nikau, and kiekie. Soil of good quality, on slate formation; well watered by Whirinaki River and streams. Situated ten miles from Opononi—six miles 6 ft. bridle-track, remainder unformed.
