Section 36 and the production thereof to the centre-line of the Motueka River; thence by the centre-line of the said river to its intersection with the production of the north-eastern boundary of Section 104, Square 6, in Block IV, Wangapeka Survey District, and generally on the north-west by the north-eastern boundary of the aforesaid Section 104 to the southern corner of Section 23, Block I, Wai-iti Survey District; thence by a right line to the eastern corner of Section I, and by the western boundary of Section 88 of Square 6 in the aforesaid Block I and the production thereof to the northern side of a public road; thence along the northern side of the said road to the eastern corner of Section 83, Square 6; thence by the north-eastern boundary of the said Section 83 to the western corner of Section I, Thorpe Sub-section; thence by the north-western boundaries of Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 to the northern corner of the last-mentioned section; thence by the north-eastern boundary of the said Section 9 to the western corner of Section 2, Block XIV, Motueka Survey District; thence by a right line to the northern corner of Section 139, Square 2, and by the north-eastern boundaries of the said Section 139 and of Sections 108 and 147 of Square 2, in Block II, Wai-iti Survey District, to the western corner of Section 148, and by the north-western boundaries of the said Section 148 and of Section 14 to the eastern corner of Section 113, Square 2 aforesaid; thence by a right line to the south-eastern corner of Section 157 of Square 2, and from the last-mentioned point also by a right line to the northern corner of Section 19, Block III, Wai-iti Survey District; thence by the north-eastern boundaries of Sections 19 and 29 to the starting-point at the northern corner of Section 28, Block VII, Wai-iti Survey District.

The Wangapeka Riding shall be bounded as follows:—

Starting at the northern corner of Section 139, Square 2, in Block II, Wai-iti Survey District; thence generally on the east by the south-eastern boundary of Section 2 and eastern boundary of Section 20, Block XIV, Motueka Survey District, and the southern and eastern boundaries of 18, 17, and 101 of Square 3, in Block XIV aforesaid, to the north-eastern corner of the said Section 101; thence generally on the north-east by the northern boundary of Section 101 aforesaid, and by the eastern boundaries of Sections 96 and 95, and the northern boundary of the last-mentioned section to its western termination; thence by the eastern and northern boundaries of Section 21, and the northern boundary of Section II, and of Square 3 aforesaid to a public road; thence by the northern side of the said road to its junction with the Orinoco Valley Road, and by the production of the said northern side across the Orinoco Valley Road to its western side; thence by the said western side to the northern corner of Section 29 of Square 7, in Block X, Motueka Survey District; thence by the north-western boundary of the said Section 29, and the north-eastern boundaries of Sections 36 and 52, and the south-eastern and north-eastern boundaries of Section 23, and the north-eastern boundary of Section 18, all in Square 7 and Block X aforesaid, and by the eastern boundary of Section 74 of the said Square 7 and the production thereof to its intersection with the centre-line of the Motueka River; thence along the centre-line of the said river to its intersection with the production of the centre-line of the Pokororo River; thence along the centre-line of the said Pokororo River to its intersection with the north-eastern boundary of Section II, Square 7 aforesaid; thence by the north-eastern boundary of the said Section II to the eastern corner of Section 56, Square 7, and by the north-eastern and north-western boundaries of said Section 56 and the north-eastern boundary of Section 6, Block IX, Motueka Survey District, to the northern corner of the last-mentioned section; thence along the summit of the leading ridge to the county boundary on the Mount Arthur Range; thence generally on the west by the county boundary to the junction of the Hope and Buller Rivers; thence generally on the east by the western and north-western boundaries of the Motupiko Riding as hereinbefore described to the starting-point at the north-western corner of Section 139, Block II, Wai-iti Survey District.

The Motueka Riding shall be bounded as follows:—

Starting at a point on the centre-line of the Moutere River where it enters the Motueka Harbour; thence on the east, north, and west by the county boundary, and on the south-west by the boundary of the Motupiko Riding hereinbefore described to the north-eastern corner of Section 101, Square 3, in Block XIV, Motueka Survey District; thence by the eastern boundary of the said Section 101 to its intersection with the northern side of the Rosedale Road; thence along the northern side of that road to the south-western corner of Section 4, Block XIV, Motueka Survey District; thence by the western boundary of the said Section 4 and the production thereof to the northern side of a public road, and by the northern side of the said road to the south-eastern corner of Section 3 of Block XIV aforesaid; thence by a right line to a point on the northern boundary of Section 20, Block XI, Motueka Survey District, in line with the production of the eastern boundary of Section 14 of the said block and district; thence by the production aforesaid of the eastern boundary of the said Section 14 and the said eastern boundary to the southern corner of Section 19, Square 3, and by the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 19 and 69 of Square 3 and the production thereof to the eastern side of a public road; thence by the eastern side of the said road to its intersection with the south-eastern boundary of Section 13 of Block XI, Motueka Survey District; thence by the south-eastern boundary of the said Section 13 and of Sections 28, 34, and 35 of Block XI aforesaid to the south-eastern corner of the last-mentioned section; thence by the eastern boundaries of Sections 35 and 32 and the production thereof to the north side of a public road; thence by the northern side of the said road to the south-eastern corner of Section 6, Moutere, in Block VII, Motueka Survey District; thence by the eastern boundaries of the said Section 6 and 2 of 28, Moutere, 1 of 38, Motueka Rural, 11 and 9, Moutere, to the south-western corner of Section 4, Moutere; thence by the eastern side of the Wauwhero Road to the north-western corner of Section 5, Moutere; thence by the northern boundary of the said Section 5 and its production to the centre-line of the Moutere River; thence by the centre-line of the Moutere River to a point in line with the production of the boundary between Sections 202 and 203, Moutere; thence by a right line to the starting-point where the Moutere River enters the Motueka Harbour: including all islands adjacent to the eastern boundary hereinbefore described; and excluding the Borough of Motueka.

The Moutere Riding shall be bounded as follows:—

Starting at a point on the centre-line of the Waimea River where it enters the sea between Section X, Waimea West, and Section 207, Waimea East; thence generally on the north-east by the centre-line of the main channel of the said Waimea River to the western entrance; thence by the county boundary to a point on the centre-line of the Moutere River where it enters the Motueka Harbour; thence on the north-west by the Motueka and Wangapeka Ridings, on the south-west by the Motupiko and Wai-iti Ridings, and on the south-east by the Wai-iti and Maitai Ridings, as hereinbefore described: and including all islands adjacent to the north-eastern boundary hereinbefore described.

THE following special order, made by the Thames County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1908.

THAMES COUNTY COUNCIL.

Special Order.

THAT, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 23 of the Counties Act, 1908, the Thames County Council resolves by way of special order as follows, that is to say:—

  1. The present division of the county into four ridings is revoked, and in lieu thereof the county shall be divided into nine ridings, to be called respectively Hastings Riding, Waiotahi Riding, Kauaeranga Riding, Parawai Riding, Totara Riding, Puriri Riding, Hikutaia Riding, Turua Riding, and Tairua Riding, which said ridings are respectively described in the Schedule hereto.

  2. The Council shall consist of nine members, who shall be elected as follows, namely: The electors of each of the said ridings shall elect one Councillor.
