by way of Taoroa, and the other leads to the southern end
of the block, and is called the Puke Road. Both roads
are formed for vehicle traffic, and both cross the Rangi-
tikei River on suspension bridges which have been lately
built. The road at northern end of the block is metalled
for almost its whole length. East of Taoroa Post-office it
is called the Mokai Road.
Section 3, Block I, Ruahine Survey District, has a front-
age to the Mokai Road, and has about 20 acres of flat land
adjoining the road which will make an excellent homestead
site.
Section 2, Block I, Ruahine, and Sections 15, 16, and 17
of Block IV, Hautapu Survey District, front the Inland
Road, which is formed as a 6 ft. bridle-track from end to
end. The track is now being widened into a dray-road. Con-
tracts have been let for a length of two miles of widening,
starting at the Omatane end. Each section has a suitable
homestead site. Section 31, Block IV, Hautapu Survey
District, 11¾ acres, which is grouped with Section 17, is
all flat land, is part of the Omatane Clearing, and has flax,
manuka, and scrub growing on it.
The sections generally are hilly with fairly easy slopes,
and have a northerly aspect.
The soil is good, on a papa-and-sandstone formation.
The whole of the land, with the exception of Section 31,
is covered with a mixed forest with a very dense under-
growth of scrub. On the top of ridges and on some of the
higher slopes there are very few large trees, the growth
consisting mainly of rangiora, mahoe, karamu; in the
gullies there are some patches of kahikatea, matai, and
rimu, and a few totara-trees. The land when cleared and
laid down will produce excellent pasture, and has a high
stock-carrying capacity.
In cases where boundary-fences have been erected by
adjoining owners, intending selectors should ascertain and
satisfy themselves as to any liability placed on them by
the Fencing Act, 1908, as to sharing in cost of clearing
such fence-lines, erecting fences, &c.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this twelfth day of July, one thousand nine
hundred and eleven.
