Proposal.
(a.) The particular purpose for which the loan is re-
quired is for the formation of certain borough streets,
particulars whereof have been open for inspection at the
Council’s office, George Street, during office hours.
(b.) The sum proposed to be borrowed for such purpose
is £10,000, having a currency not exceeding fifty years,
and bearing interest and sinking fund together not exceed-
ing £5 10s. per centum per annum, or such greater or
lesser amount as may be required and may be allowed by
law, for the purpose of this loan and for other purposes
in relation thereto prescribed by the Municipal Corpora-
tions Act, 1908, and the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,
or either of them.
(c.) The proposed security is a special rate of 1½d. in
the pound sterling on the amount of the annual rateable
value of all rateable property in the said borough, and the
provision for repayment of the loan is a sinking fund of
£1 per centum per annum on the amount thereof, or such
greater or lesser amount as may be required and may be
allowed by law.
(d.) It is proposed to pay out of the loan the cost of
raising same, and the interest on such loan for the first
year.
For the proposal, 871 votes; against the proposal, 110
votes; informal, 19 votes.
And we declare the said proposal to be carried.

either of them.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the
Port Officer, Melbourne, Victoria, are published for
general information.

SNAKE CHANNEL, PORT ALBERT.
MARINERS and others are hereby warned against passing
to eastward of the fairway buoy marking the entrance to
Port Albert when entering or leaving the Snake Island
Channel, as a shoal is extending from the eastern entrance
towards such buoy. Persons in charge of vessels drawing
about 9 ft. are warned that they should exercise extreme
caution in navigating the entrance.

SUBMERGED WRECKAGE OFF POINT NEPEAN.
BOATMEN and others using waters between Corsair Rock
and Beacon Rock, off Point Nepean, are hereby notified
that a submerged portion of wreckage exists south 79°
west 2½ cables distant from Rock Beacon, therefore
extreme caution should be exercised in leaving or entering
Port Phillip, or when fishing in the vicinity of such
obstruction.

Marine Board, Port Adelaide, South Australia, is
published for general information.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
MASTERS of vessels and others are hereby informed that
a report has been received from the Prime Minister of the
Commonwealth of Australia that the master of the s.s.
“Providence,” when on a voyage from Newcastle, New
South Wales, to Suva, passed over discoloured water,
which he believes covers an uncharted bank, in lat. 21° 31′
S., long. 176° 36′ E. The supposed bank seemed to run
in an E.N.E. and W.S.W. direction.
This affects Admiralty Chart No. 2683.

ON page 169 of “New Zealand Nautical Almanac,”
1911, under the heading of “Lighthouses,” No. 40A,
Otago Harbour Entrance, N. Mole Light, should read
“Fixed, green, visible 5 miles” in lieu of “Occulting,
white, visible 8 miles.”
Page 213, seventh line from top, longitude of Port of
New Plymouth should read “174° 2′ E.” in lieu of
“174° 5½′ E.”

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Drapers’ and Mercers’ Shops
in the Borough of Taumarunui under the Shops and
Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a
majority of the occupiers of all drapery and mer-
cery shops in the Borough of Taumarunui, has been for-
warded to me desiring that all such shops in the borough
shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows :
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 9 p.m. ;
Saturdays, 10 p.m. : And whereas the Taumarunui Borough
Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition
represent a majority of the occupiers of all the drapers’
and mercers’ shops, combined and separately, within the
Borough of Taumarunui :
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of
Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices
Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 1st
day of May, 1911, all drapers’ and mercers’ shops, com-
bined and separately, in the Borough of Taumarunui shall
be closed in accordance with such requisition.
