And I hereby declare that this Proclamation shall come into operation on the first day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eleven.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixteenth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eleven.

New County of Heathcote divided into Ridings, &c.

A PROCLAMATION.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the Counties Act, 1908, and the Selwyn County Subdivision Act, 1910, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby divide the new County of Heathcote, as constituted by the said Acts, into seven ridings, to be called the Avonside Riding, the Bromley Riding, the Opawa Riding, the Hillsborough Riding, the Heathcote Riding, the St. Martin’s Riding, and the Cashmere Riding, and declare that the boundaries thereof shall be those set forth in the Schedule hereto.
And I do hereby declare that one member shall be elected for each of the aforesaid ridings. And I do further declare that Thursday, the sixth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, shall be the day upon which the election of the first Council of the said County of Heathcote shall take place; and that Saturday, the eighth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, at three o’clock in the afternoon, shall be the time, and the Heathcote Road Board Office, Woolston, shall be the place, at which the first meeting of the said Council shall be held.
SCHEDULE.
AVONSIDE RIDING.
All that area in Heathcote County bounded towards the north-west generally by Waimairi County, as described in the First Schedule to the Waimairi County Act, 1909, from the City of Christchurch to the Borough of New Brighton; thence by that borough to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Rural Section No. 7026, in Block XII, Christchurch Survey District; thence towards the south-east generally by a right line to the northernmost corner of that section; thence by Rural Sections Nos. 7026, 9152, and 9165, 6755, 5838, and 16007, to Breeze’s Road; thence by that road to its junction with Page’s Road; thence by Page’s Road to Rudd’s Road; thence by Rudd’s Road to the road forming the western boundary of Rural Section No. 1148; thence by the last-mentioned road and Berry’s Road to McGregor’s Road; thence by McGregor’s Road to the Borough of Woolston; and thence towards the south-west generally by the Borough of Woolston and the City of Christchurch to the place of commencement.
BROMLEY RIDING.
All that area in Heathcote County bounded towards the north-east generally by the Borough of New Brighton from a point in line with the north-western boundary of Rural Section No. 7026, in Block XII, Christchurch Survey District, to the estuary of the Heathcote and Avon Rivers; thence towards the south-east by the said estuary to the Borough of Woolston; thence towards the south-west by the Borough of Woolston to the junction of the Canal and Road Reserve with McGregor’s Road; and thence towards the north-west generally by the Avonside Riding hereinbefore described to the place of commencement.
OPAWA RIDING.
All that area in Heathcote County bounded towards the north-east by the City of Christchurch and the Borough of Woolston from Wilson’s Road to the River Heathcote; thence towards the east, south, and south-west generally by the River Heathcote to the south-eastern boundary of the City of Christchurch; and thence towards the north-west by the City of Christchurch to the place of commencement.
HILLSBOROUGH RIDING.
All that area in Heathcote County bounded towards the north-east and north generally by the Borough of Woolston from the left bank of the Heathcote River where the Christchurch-Lyttelton Railway line crosses that river to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Rural Section No. 329, in Block XVI, Christchurch Survey District; thence towards the south-east by a right line to and by the north-western boundary of that section to Scroton’s Road; thence towards the east generally by Scroton’s Road to the road forming the northern boundary of Rural Section No. 966; thence by that road to the north-western corner of the said Section No. 966; thence by that section and Sections Nos. 104, 23594, and 23560, to the Borough of Lyttelton; thence towards the south by the Borough of Lyttelton and the summit of the Port Hills to the junction of White’s Road and Summit Road; thence towards the west generally by White’s Road to the southern boundary of Rural Section No. 23645; thence by that section to the junction of roads at its northernmost corner; thence again by White’s Road forming the western boundary of Rural Section No. 256 to and across the Heathcote River; and thence by the Opawa Riding hereinbefore described to the place of commencement.
HEATHCOTE VALLEY RIDING.
All that area in Heathcote County bounded towards the north generally by the Borough of Woolston from the north-eastern corner of the Hillsborough Riding hereinbefore described to the estuary of the Heathcote and Avon Rivers; thence by that estuary to the north-western corner of the Borough of Sumner; thence towards the east generally by the Borough of Sumner to the Borough of Lyttelton; thence towards the south by the Borough of Lyttelton to the south-eastern corner of the Hillsborough Riding aforesaid; and thence towards the west generally by the said Hillsborough Riding to the place of commencement.
ST. MARTIN’S RIDING.
All that area in Heathcote County bounded towards the north-east generally by Opawa Riding hereinbefore described from the City of Christchurch to Hillsborough Riding hereinbefore described; thence by the said Hillsborough Riding to the summit of the Port Hills; thence towards the south by the summit of the Port Hills to the road forming the eastern boundary of Rural Section No. 11549; thence towards the west generally by the road forming the eastern boundaries of Rural Sections Nos. 11549, 17908, 34655, and 2135 to the north-eastern corner of the last-mentioned section; thence by that section and Rural Section No. 2115 and the north-eastern boundary of the last-mentioned section produced to the boundary of the City of Christchurch; and thence by the City of Christchurch to the place of commencement.
CASHMERE RIDING.
All that area in Heathcote County bounded towards the north-east generally by the City of Christchurch from Colombo Road to St. Martin’s Riding hereinbefore described; thence by St. Martin’s Riding to the summit of the Port Hills; thence towards the south-east by the summit of the Port Hills to the middle of Dyer’s Pass Road; thence towards the west generally by a line along the middle of that road and Colombo Road to the City of Christchurch, the place of commencement.
