There are two range beacons on Malvinas Point which
serve as a guide to the anchorage off that point. When in
line these beacons bear 288°.
Baxta Point beacon is surmounted by 2 red balls instead
of one.
Barranca Point beacon is painted white and surmounted
by 2 balls, and not red and white, with a cage.
The red conical buoy marking Triton Bank has a conical
topmark and not a cage.
CALIFORNIA.
PIGEON POINT LIGHT-STATION.—INTENDED CHANGE IN
FOG-SIGNAL.—About 1st March, 1911, the 12-inch steam-
whistle at Pigeon Point Light-station, sea-coast of Cali-
fornia, will be replaced by a first-class compressed-air siren.
Approx. position: Lat. 37° 10' 56" N., long. 122° 23' 36" W.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—FORT POINT LIGHT-STATION.—FOG-
SIGNAL TO BE CHANGED.—About 1st March, 1911, the second-
class Daboll trumpet at Fort Point Light-station, San
Francisco Bay entrance, California, will be replaced by a
second-class compressed-air siren, which will sound blasts
of 2 seconds duration every 20 seconds—thus, blast 2 seconds,
silent interval 18 seconds.
Approx. position: Lat. 37° 48' 32" N., long. 122° 28' 39" W.
SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
SOLOMON ISLANDS.—NON-EXISTENCE OF IMBERHORNE
REEF.—Information has been received that an unsuccessful
search has been made for Imberhorne Reef, Solomon
Islands, South Pacific Ocean. Soundings obtained by
H.B.M. surveying-vessels on two occasions, while searching
for this shoal, show depths of not less than 2,000 fathoms
within a radius of 12 miles around the position of this
reported danger. It is therefore not considered to exist
within the limits searched, and will be expunged from the
charts.
Approx. position: Lat. 12° 5' S., long. 162° 39' E.

NEW GUINEA.—NORTH COAST.—JOBI STRAIT.—REEF
REPORTED.—The master of the steamship “Camphuys”
reports the existence of a reef about 7 miles 288° from Abai
Island, Jobi Strait, north coast of New Guinea.
Approx. position: Lat. 1° 30' 48" S., long. 135° 40' 30" E.
TONGO ISLANDS.—REEF REPORTED SOUTH-EASTWARD.—
Captain John A. Dollard, of the American barkentine
“Gleaner,” reports through the American Consul at New-
castle, New South Wales, that on 8th July, 1910, his vessel
touched an uncharted reef, with 17 ft. of water over it, in
(approximately) latitude 22° 43' S., longitude 173° 5' W.
The captain states that at the time of striking he felt the
ship tremble, but thought it might be due to an earthquake
shock, but that upon examination of the ship’s bottom, when
docked, conclusive evidence was obtained that the vessel had
touched a reef.
ELLICE GROUP.—NIUTAO ISLAND.—CORRECTED POSITION.
—The commander of the German man-of-war “Scharen-
horst” reports that Niutao Island, Ellice Group, South
Pacific Ocean, is located four miles 270° from its charted
position.
Approx. position: Lat. 6° 6' S., long. 177° 16' E.
AFRICA.
CAPE COLONY.—TABLE BAY APPROACH.—ROCK DIS-
COVERED.—The commanding officer of H.B.M.S. “Mutine”
reports the discovery of a rock, with 6 ft. of water over it at
low water, spring tides, in the approach to Table Bay, Cape
Colony, on the following bearings:—
Green Point Lighthouse, 42° 30'.
South Lions Paw, 99°, distant 600 yards.
Approx. position: Lat. 33° 56' 20" S., long. 18° 21' 35" W.
BRITISH COLUMBIA.
STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—ACTIVE PASS.—GALIANO ISLAND.—
MARY ANNE POINT.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—An unwatched,
intermittent red, acetylene light has been established on the
extremity of Mary Anne Point, Galiano Island, northern side
of Active Pass, British Columbia. The light is exhibited,
30 ft. above high water, from a black beacon consisting of a
cylindrical steel tank, standing on a steel truss, and sur-
mounted by a pyramidal steel frame supporting the lantern,
the whole resting on a concrete base. The light is visible 3
miles from all points of approach.
Approx. position: Lat. 48° 51' 29" N., long. 123° 18' 45" W.
QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND.—NEW CHANNEL.—CRANE
ISLETS.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—An intermittent white light
has been established on the middle islet of the Crane Group,
New Channel, Queen Charlotte Sound, British Columbia.
The light is exhibited 32 ft. above high water from a red
beacon consisting of a cylindrical steel tank standing on a
steel truss and surmounted by a pyramidal steel frame sup-
porting the lantern. The light is visible 10 miles from all
points of approach, except where obscured by the high land
of adjacent islands.
Approx. position: Lat. 50° 50' 42" N., long. 127° 31' 25" W.
VANCOUVER ISLAND.—EAST COAST.—BAYNES SOUND.—
PORT AUGUSTA.—GOOSE SPIT LIGHT.—CORRECTION.—Re-
ferring to Notice to Mariners No. 52 (3444) of 1910, further
notice is given that Goose Spit Light, Port Augusta, shows
red over an arc of 90° from 224° to 314°, covering the ap-
proach from the Strait of Georgia, and white over an arc of
270° from 314° to 224°, leading up Baynes Sound.
Approx. position: Lat. 49° 39' 40" N., long. 124° 54' 58" W.
QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS.—HECATE STRAIT.—LOW
ISLAND.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—An unwatched intermittent
white light, visible 13 miles, has been established on the
north-western end of the northernmost of the Low Islands,
Hecate Strait, Queen Charlotte Islands. The light is
exhibited, 58 ft. above high water, from a beacon consisting
of a cylindrical steel tank standing on a steel frame and sur-
mounted by a steel frame supporting the lantern, the whole
painted red. The light is obscured by the high land and
trees of the island over an arc of 28° from 310° 30' to 338° 30'.
The illuminant is acetylene gas.
Approx. position: Lat. 52° 54' 40" N., long. 131° 30' 50" W.

WARPING-BUOY.—TRUGANINA JETTY.—PORT PHILLIP.
REFERRING to General Notice to Mariners dated 1st
August, 1907, page 84, mariners and others are hereby
notified that the two red-cask warping-buoys moored off
Truganina Jetty have been shifted—one to a position
500 ft. S. 20° E., and the other 1,440 ft. due east from the
outer end of the jetty.

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of Boot and Shoe
Dealers’ Shops in the Borough of New Plymouth under
the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a
majority of the occupiers of all the boot and shoe
dealers’ shops in the Borough of New Plymouth has been
forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough
shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows:
Monday, 6 o'clock; Tuesday, 6 o'clock; Wednesday,
6 o'clock; Thursday, 1 o'clock; Friday, 6 o'clock; Satur-
day, 9.30 o'clock, excepting the week before Christmas
and the week before New Year : And whereas the New
Plymouth Borough Council has certified that the signa-
tures to such requisition represent a majority of the occu-
piers of all the boot and shoe dealers’ shops within the
Borough of New Plymouth:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, the Minister
of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and
Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after
the 20th day of March, 1911, all such shops in the Borough
of New Plymouth shall be closed in accordance with such
requisition.
The notice gazetted on 18th March, 1909, fixing the
closing-hours of all boot shops is hereby varied accord-
ingly.
