WHEREAS it has been found desirable for the use, convenience, and enjoyment of the Catlin’s—Seaward Bush Railway to take further land in Otara and Toetoes Survey Districts in addition to land previously acquired for the purposes of the said railway :

Now, therefore, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by sections twenty-nine and one hundred and eighty-eight of the Public Works Act, 1908, and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto is hereby taken for the purposes above mentioned.

Land reserved under the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”), a Scenery Preservation Board is constituted, and it is enacted that such Board shall, when so directed by the Minister charged for the time being with the administration of the said Act, inspect any lands possessing scenic or historic interest, or on which there are thermal springs, and make inquiries respecting the same, and report to the Governor; and shall from time to time recommend what lands, whether Crown or private, shall be permanently reserved as scenic, thermal, or historic reserves: And whereas the said Board was duly directed to inspect and report on the land described in the Schedule hereunder, and has recommended that the said land should be permanently reserved for scenic purposes, and it is expedient to give effect to such recommendation :

Now, therefore, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers contained in the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that the land described in the Schedule hereunder shall be a scenic reserve under the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, and subject to the provisions thereof.

SCHEDULE.

LAKE IANTHE SCENIC RESERVE.

(Reserve No. 1191.)

All that area in the Westland Land District, containing by admeasurement 3,570 acres, more or less, situated in Blocks XIV and XV, Waitaha Survey District, and Blocks II and III, Mount Bonar Survey District. Bounded towards the west by a right line running due north from Trig. Station DY, 18000 links; thence towards the north by a right line running due east, 10000 links; thence towards the north-east by a right line bearing 135°, distance 6000 links; thence by a right line bearing 120°, distance 3500 links; thence towards the east by a right line running due south, 17000 links; thence towards the south by a right line running due west, 13000 links; and thence by a right line bearing 315° to Trig. Station DY, the place of commencement: excluding the Main South Road, intersecting the above-described area, also a part of a road reserve along the left bank of Ianthe Creek, and Gravel Reserve No. 887: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. 578/1, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands, at Wellington, and thereon coloured red. Subject to existing mining rights.
