Altitude, from 80 ft. to 390 ft. above sea-level. About 320 acres is flat, the remainder being steep sidling covered with heavy mixed bush. The flat land comprises about 170 acres of dry land, with sandy soil, carrying light mixed bush, principally of ribbonwood, and 150 acres of white-pine swamp. Access by river-bed, about five miles from Main South Road and seven miles and a half from Waiho Gorge Post and Telegraph Office.

Altitude, from 100 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. Comprises about 70 acres of steep hilly country, and about 235 acres of flat dry land, with soil of a sandy nature. The hilly land is covered with heavy mixed bush, but on the flat the bush is lighter and consists principally of ribbonwood. Well watered by creeks. Access is by river-bed, four miles and three-quarters from Main South Road and seven miles from Waiho Gorge Post and Telegraph Office.

Opening National Endowment Lands in Westland Land District for Selection.
ISLINGTON, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Tuesday, the thirteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and ten, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

This section comprises an island in the Arnold River, known as Killeen’s Island. Altitude, 110 ft. above sea-level. All flat land, formerly covered with heavy mixed bush, the sawmilling-timber having now been removed; fair soil. Accessible from Stillwater Railway-station by metalled road for half a mile, and thence by unformed road along the bank of the Arnold one mile.

Weighted with £10, valuation for clearing, grassing, and fencing.
Altitude, from 120 ft. to 280 ft. above sea-level. Comprises flat and terraced land, formerly covered with heavy bush from which the timber of commercial value has been cut out by sawmillers. The flat land along the bank of the Arnold River is fairly good, but the land on the terrace is of medium quality; well watered. Access is either from Stillwater Railway-station by metalled road half a mile, and thence two miles and a half by unformed road along the bank of the Arnold River, or from Baxter’s Railway-station by formed Kokiri Road half a mile, and thence by unformed road 10 chains to the Arnold River, the fording of which is difficult. The lease will be subject to an existing tramway right, the position of which is approximately shown on plan.

Altitude, from 130 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Comprises nearly all terrace land of moderate quality. The flat land along the bank of the Arnold River is of fair quality. The whole was formerly covered with heavy bush, but this has been cut over by sawmillers; well watered. Access is either from Stillwater Railway-station by Reefton Road for one mile, and thence three miles and a half by Grey-Kotuku Road which is formed for two miles and a half, or from Baxter’s Railway-station half a mile by formed Kokiri Road and 10 chains by unformed road to Arnold River, the fording of which is difficult.

Altitude, from 116 ft. to 320 ft. above sea-level. Mostly terrace land, formerly covered with heavy bush from which the timber of commercial value has been removed. The flat land along the bank of the Arnold River is of fair quality, but the land on the terrace is wet; well watered. Access is either from Stillwater Railway-station by main Reefton Road one mile, and thence four miles by Grey-Kotuku Road, which is formed for two miles and a half, or from Kokiri Railway-station by unformed road 30 chains to bank of Arnold River, the fording of which is difficult.

Opening Land in Southland Land District for Sale or Selection.
ISLINGTON, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the twenty-fifth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and eleven; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.
