WHAKATANE COUNTY.—ROTOMA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, 400 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to
broken land, with patches of inferior ridges between streams ;
about 60 acres fern land, balance light mixed forest, com-
prising rewarewa, manuka, tawa, and a few rimu trees ;
thick undergrowth of scrub. Soil of fair quality, of a sandy
nature, on decomposed - pumice formation ; well watered.
Distant about fourteen miles from Matata by formed road.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this twenty-seventh day of September, one thou-
sand nine hundred and ten.

Opening National Endowment Lands in Auckland Land
District for Selection.

ISLINGTON, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, John
Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor
of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that
the national endowment lands described in the Schedule
hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on
Monday, the twenty-first day of November, one thousand
nine hundred and ten, at the rentals mentioned in the said
Schedule ; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be
leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

kohe; thick undergrowth of supplejack, mahoe, mako-
mako, mapau, punga, nikau, and tawhero; soil light and
sandy, but of good quality, on pumice formation; Sec-
tion 5, indifferently watered; Section 7, no water.
Situated about twenty-nine miles from Rotorua—about
twenty-three miles to Rotoma Post-office, thence by good
dray-road.

Altitude, about 1,600 ft. above sea-level. All steep
country, broken in parts; good homestead-site on road;
covered with heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa,
mangeao, pukatea, rimu, hinau, miro, mami, rata, re-
warewa, tanekaha, and kohekohe, with thick undergrowth
of supplejack, makomako, mahoe, punga, nikau, kiekie,
horopito, and tawhero. Soil light and sandy, but of fair
quality, on pumice formation; well watered by streams.
Situated about sixteen miles from Matata—fourteen miles
by dray-road, balance bridle-track.

WHAKATANE COUNTY.—ROTOMA SURVEY DISTRICT.

to broken land; about 40 acres fern and manuka; re-
mainder heavy mixed forest, comprising tawa, rimu,

with thick undergrowth of supplejack, makomako, manuka,
punga, nikau, kiekie, and tawhero, and a few puriri-trees.
Soil of fair quality, of a sandy nature, on volcanic cement ;
well watered. Situated on Pikowai Road, fifteen to six-
teen miles from Matata, by formed road.

thick undergrowth of supplejack, makomako, mahoe,
mapau, punga, tawhero, titoki, and nikau. Soil of a sandy
nature, but of good quality, on volcanic cement formation ;
well watered. Situated on the Rotoma—Manawahe Road,
ten to twelve miles from Matata, by good dray-road.

lating hills, with flat valleys covered with heavy mixed

growth of supplejack, punga, nikau, kiekie, tawhiri,
horopito, and tawhero. Soil light and sandy, but of good
quality, on pumice formation; no water. Situated
twenty-seven to twenty-nine miles from Rotorua—over
twenty-three miles by coach-road to Rotoma Post-office,
thence by good dray-road.

but of good quality, on volcanic cement formation; fairly
well watered by spring and streams. Situated fifteen to
seventeen miles from Matata—fourteen miles dray-road,
balance bridle-track.

rewarewa, and kohekohe, with thick undergrowth of
supplejack, makomako, mahoe, mapau, punga, nikau,
kiekie, and tawhero. Soil light and sandy, but good to
fair in quality, on volcanic cement formation; well
watered. Situated on the Rotoma—Manawahe Road, twelve
to thirteen miles from Matata, by formed dray-road.
