APPLICATION FOR LICENSE FOR A WATER-RACE.


To the Warden of the Otago Mining District, at Arrowtown.

PURSUANT to the Mining Act, 1908, the undersigned, James Hamilton, of Macetown, Miner, hereby applies for a license for a water-race as specified in the Schedule hereto, the course whereof has been duly marked out for the purpose.

Precise time of marking out privilege applied for: 4 p.m. on 14th July, 1910.

Date and number of miner’s right: 14th February, 1910; No. 79969.

Address for service: Office of Wesley Turton, Arrowtown.

Dated at Queenstown, this 23rd day of July, 1910.

Schedule.

Locality of the race and of its starting and terminal points: Below New Chum Saddle. Commencing in water-race held under License No. 687, 21st December, 1905 (which I have arranged to purchase), at a point marked A on the plan lodged herewith, distant about 500 yards from New Chum Saddle; running thence in a southerly direction a distance of about 3 chains to a point marked B on the said sketch plan; thence running in a westerly direction down the bed of New Chum Gully over a series of rocky faces for a distance of about 25 chains to a point marked C on the said sketch plan, picking up one head of water out of New Chum Gully; thence running south-westerly round a sidling, partly through Crown lands and partly through Stevenson Brothers’ freehold land, a distance of about 60 chains, to a point marked D on the said sketch plan, and there emptying into water-race held under License No. 909, 22nd September, 1908, known as the Crown Terrace Water-race; thence running in the said Water-race No. 909 in a westerly and then northerly direction round Mount Beetham, a distance of about 80 chains, to a point marked E on the said plan; thence leaving the said Water-race No. 909 and running partly through Kane Brothers’ freehold lands and partly through Crown lands in a westerly direction down Limestone Gully, a distance of about 8 chains, to a point marked F on the said sketch plan; thence running almost north for a distance of about 10 chains to a point marked G on the said sketch plan; thence running in a westerly direction in a pipe line a distance of about 2,000 ft., and terminating at a point marked H on the said sketch plan, being at the special river claim applied for by me this day.

Length and intended course of race: Length, about 216 chains; course, south, west, south-west, west and north, west, north-west and west.

Points of intake: The commencing-point in water-race held under License No. 687, 21st December, 1905, 8½ heads; New Chum Gully, 1 head; from first creek to north branch Swiftburn, 1 head; water-race held under License No. 909, 22nd September, 1908, 4 heads; total heads, 14½.

Estimated time and cost of construction: Twelve months; £700.

Mean depth and breadth: 3 ft. deep, 3 ft. wide, and pipe line from points G to H; 22 in. pipes, reducing to 9 in. pipes at point H.

Number of heads to be diverted: From Water-race No. 687, 8½ heads; from New Chum Gully, 1 head; from first creek nearest Cardrona to the north branch of Swiftburn Creek, 1 head; and Race 909, 4 heads; total, 14½ heads.

Precise time of marking out privilege applied for: 4 p.m. on 14th July, 1910.

Date and number of miner’s right: 14th February, 1910; No. 79969.

Commencing at a point marked E on sketch plan, lodged herewith, in our water-race held under License No. 909, 22nd September, 1908, about 25 chains north of Mount Beetham, where the said race passes through Kane Brothers’ freehold land; running thence in a westerly direction down Limestone Gully, a distance of about 8 chains, to a point marked F on the said sketch plan; thence running about north-west for a distance of about 10 chains to a point marked G on the said sketch plan; thence running in a westerly direction in a pipe line a distance of about 2,000 ft. and terminating at a point marked H on the said sketch plan, being at the special river claim applied for by James Hamilton to-day.

Length and intended course of race: Length, about 48 chains; course, west, north-west, and west.

Points of intake: The commencing-point in Water-race No. 909.

Estimated time and cost of construction: Nine months; cost included in the £700 mentioned in Application No. 24/10.

Mean depth and breadth: 3 ft. by 2 ft., except from point G to point H on the said sketch plan, where water will be conveyed in 22 in. pipes reducing to 9 in.

Number of heads to be carried: 14½ heads.

Purpose for which water to be used: Mining.

Proposed term of license: Forty-two years.
