KOHIIKA NO. 2 SETTLEMENT.

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District containing by admeasurement 588 acres 1 rood 3 perches, more or less, being Rural Sections Nos. 17106, 17107, 17108, 17109, 19396, 18015, 20957, 23569, 22340, 25625, and parts of 18017 and 18016, situate in Blocks I and II, Waimate Survey District, and bounded as follows : Towards the west by part of Rural Section 18327 ; towards the north by part of Lot 1 D.P. 2516, Lot 1 D.P. 2847, Rural Section 23471, and part of Rural Section 23733 ; thence towards the east by part of Rural Section 23570 ; towards the south and east by Rural Sections 23568 and 25556 ; thence by the production of west boundary of Rural Section 25556 across a road, again on the east by the western boundary of that road to the Makikihi River ; towards the south by the Makikihi River ; thence on the west and south by Rural Sections 26250 and 18329 : as the same is delineated on the plan marked L. 19414, and deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red.

New Zealand Government Railways.—By-law No. 63, regulating the Weight of Cereals and Agricultural Produce to be carried in any Sack.

PURSUANT to and in exercise of the powers conferred by section 10 (e) (iv) of the Government Railways Act, 1908, I, John Andrew Millar, the Minister of Railways, do hereby revoke the by-law dated the 10th November, 1909, and gazetted on the 18th November, 1909, and in lieu thereof do hereby make the following by-law, regulating the weight of cereals or other agricultural produce to be carried in any sack, and imposing a penal rate of charges for excess in respect of such weight ; and I hereby declare that this by-law shall come into operation on the date of the publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.

BY-LAW.

  1. The maximum weight of any class of cereal or other agricultural produce (potatoes excepted) contained in any one sack to be carried by railway shall be 200 lb.

The maximum weight of potatoes contained in any one sack to be carried by railway shall be 224 lb.

Any sack of any class of cereal or other agricultural produce (potatoes excepted) containing a greater weight than 200 lb. shall be charged for at the rate of 10s. per ton in addition to the ordinary railage charges.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.

MAUI.—NORTH COAST.—KAHULUI HARBOUR.—LIGHT TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 16th June, 1910, a fixed white lens-lantern light, elevated 40 ft. above the sea and 34 ft. above the breakwater, will be established on the breakwater in Kahului Harbour, Maui, about 400 ft. from its present extremity.

Approx. position : Lat. 20° 54' 6" N., long. 156° 28' 14" W.

CALIFORNIA.

SAN PABLO BAY.—PETALUMA INLET.—LIGHTS ESTABLISHED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 15 (781) of 1910, further notice is given that on 10th May, 1910, the following lights were established in Petaluma Inlet, San Pablo Bay, California :—

Petaluma Inlet Light No. 2, a fixed red lens-lantern light, 26 ft. above the water, on a 3-pile horizontally slatted structure, numbered “2” in black, surmounted by a red-lamp box, erected in 9 ft. of water, in place of Petaluma Inlet Beacon No. 2.

Approx. position : Lat. 38° 3' 53" N., long. 122° 25' 25" W.

Petaluma Inlet Light No. 4, a fixed red lens-lantern light, 26 ft. above the water, on a 3-pile horizontally slatted structure, numbered “4” in black, surmounted by a red-lamp box, erected in 2½ ft. of water, in place of Petaluma Inlet Beacon No. 2½.

Approx. position : Lat. 38° 5' 40" N., long. 122° 26' 13" W.

Petaluma Inlet Light No. 6, a fixed red lens-lantern light, 26 ft. above the water, on a 3-pile horizontally slatted structure, numbered “6” in black, surmounted by a red-lamp box, erected in 6 ft. of water, in place of Petaluma Inlet Beacon No. 4.

Approx. position : Lat. 38° 6' 30" N., long. 122° 28' W.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—DUNBARTON POINT.—FOG-SIGNAL ESTABLISHED.—On 14th May, 1910, a 1,000-pound fog-bell, struck by machinery a single blow every 10 seconds, was established by the Southern Pacific Railroad Company on the drawbridge near Dunbarton Point, southern end of San Francisco Bay, on the following bearings :—

Alviso Channel Beacon 10, 110°.
Alviso Channel Beacon 8, 307° 30'.
Alviso Channel Beacon 3, 321°.

CHINA.

EAST COAST.—CHUSAN ARCHIPELAGO.—TONGTING LIGHT.—NON-EXISTENCE OF BREAKERS SOUTH-EASTWARD.—Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 10 (507) of 1910, the Japanese Government has given further notice that a steamer which was despatched by the Coast Inspector’s Office at Shanghai to investigate the reported breakers about 30½ miles 107° from Tongting light, Chusan Archipelago, east coast of China, has ascertained from local fishermen anchored near the position that the breakers do not exist. They will therefore be expunged from the charts.

Approx. position : Lat. 29° 42' 50" N., long. 123° 8' 45" E.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.

MIDDLETON REEF.—WRECK.—FURTHER INFORMATION.—The master of the American schooner “David Evans” reports, under date of 28th May, 1909, that the wreck of the British ship “Ansona” still lies about 300 yards off the south-western end of Middleton Reef, South Pacific Ocean, and makes a very good land-mark. The masts and yards on that date were still standing, and the wreck seemed to be intact.

On 2nd April, 1910, the master of the British steamer “English Monarch” reports a ship nearly high and dry on the south-western end of Middleton Reef, with lower masts standing. The wreck constitutes a good land-mark, visible about 7 miles in clear weather.

Approx. position of Middleton Reef : Lat. 29° 27' 40" S., long. 159° 3' 38" E.

OREGON.

CAPE BLANCO LIGHT-STATION.—NEW DWELLING.—A new one-and-one-half-story frame dwelling, painted white with brown roof, has been constructed 60 ft. eastward of the double dwelling and about 150 ft. south-eastward of the light tower at Cape Blanco Light-station, sea-coast of Oregon.

Approx. position : Lat. 42° 50' 7" N., long. 124° 33' 47" W.

WASHINGTON.

GRAYS HARBOUR.—WESTPORT RANGE FRONT LIGHT TO BE ESTABLISHED.—About 16th June, 1910, a fixed white post-lantern light will be established 20 ft. above the water on a white cross-arm attached to the pilework of the south jetty, Grays Harbour, Washington, about ¼ mile from its inshore end, on the following bearings :—

Neds Rock, left tangent, 31°.
Ocosta Wharf, outer end, 93°.
Lone Tree, Point Brown, 339° 30'.

This light, in line with Grays Harbour light, bearing 214°, forms a range leading through the channel across Whitcomb Flats.

Approx. position : Lat. 46° 54' 14" N., long. 124° 6' 36" W.
