Opening National Endowment Land in Wellington Land District for Selection.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the twenty-seventh day of April, one thousand nine hundred and ten, at the rental mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

LOCALITY AND DESCRIPTION.
This land is situated south of Okehu and Rangiwaea Blocks. It comprises sloping country, with good soil on papa formation, covered with light bush and thick undergrowth, and well watered by the Pikopiko and Kaimatangi Streams. Elevation ranges from about 1,600 ft. to 2,200 ft. above sea-level.
Access is from Mataroa, about seventeen miles distant—15½ miles formed dray-road, remainder formed bridle-track. Waitangi Railway-station is about thirteen miles distant by horse-road.
The south-western boundary has been felled and fenced by the adjoining owners, but the fences are mostly outside section boundaries.
NOTE.—The selector will be held responsible for any damage that may be done by fire to the bush on Scenic Reserve Section 6, Block V, Maungakaretu, through fires spreading from his holding.

Altitude, 200 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. About 12 acres flat land, balance undulating to broken; all covered with mixed forest, comprising puriri, taraire, tawa, towai, rimu, rata, with dense undergrowth of nikau, kiekie, and bush-ferns. Soil of fair second-class quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Situated six miles from Takahue Post-office by formed pack-track (Takahue—Herekino).

Altitude, 600 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. Broken country; about 70 acres of Section 31 and about 15 acres of Section 32 fern land; about 75 acres of Section 33 fern and burnt bush; balance of sections covered with mixed forest, comprising rata, rimu, tawa. Soil on Sections 31 and 33 of fair quality, light clay on rock formation. Soil on Section 32 generally fair, but inferior in places. Well watered. Sufficient totara and odd kauri trees for selectors’ requirements. Section 31 is distant about nine miles from Hikurangi Railway-station by formed dray-road, except quarter of a mile still unformed; Sections 32 and 33, about nine miles from Hikurangi—eight miles dray-road and one mile and a half to be formed shortly.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided in section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the twenty-seventh day of April, one thousand nine hundred and ten; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”
