UNDER THE MINING ACT, 1908.
APPLICATION FOR LICENSE FOR A WATER-RACE.
To the Warden of the Westland Mining District at Hokitika.
Pursuant to the Mining Act, 1908, the undersigned, Arthur Clifton, Thomas Borkin, and Franz David Baucke, all of Rimu, Miners, hereby apply for a license for a water-race as specified in the Schedule hereto, the course whereof has been duly marked out for the purpose.
Precise time of marking out privilege applied for: 18th June, 1910, at 3 p.m.
Dates and numbers of miners’ rights: 16th November, 1909, No. 77182; 16th November, 1909, No. 77129; 25th November, 1909, No. 77140.
Address for service: Office of T. W. Beare, Solicitor, Hokitika.
Dated at Hokitika, this 18th day of June, 1910.
Schedule.
Locality of the race and its starting and terminal points: Situate in the Westland Mining District, commencing on the southern bank of the Toaroha River, in the Toaroha Survey District, at a peg marked “X” above the fall, and running thence about thirteen miles and a half by tunnel and pipe-line to a peg marked “X” on Overlook Hill, Seddon’s Terrace, Rimu.
Length and intended course of race: Thirteen miles and a half; north-west.
Points of intake: At peg marked “X,” southern bank Toaroha River.
Estimated time and cost of construction: Two years; £150,000.
Mean depth and breadth: Tunnel, 6 ft. x 8 ft.; piping, 4 ft. diameter.
Number of heads to be diverted: 120. This application is made by the applicants for one joint race in lieu of three races for forty heads each granted to applicants, but surrendered to the Court prior to this application.
Purpose for which water is to be used: Mining by hydraulic sluicing.
Proposed term of license: Forty-two years.
The first three miles of the race from Toaroha River to Murray Creek to be a tunnel; thence by pipe-line down the road reserve along the course of the said creek to Koiterangi Road; thence along that road, Cropp Road, and the Koiterangi Main Road to a point near Kokatahi Bridge, and thence in a straight line over the Hokitika River to Overlook Hill. Sketch plan filed herewith. Pegs marked “X.” The line of race crosses portions of freehold Sections 1118, 1120, and 944, the consent of the owners thereto being obtained to this application.
