KORO LIGHT, FIJI.—ALTERATION IN LIGHT.
NOTICE is hereby given that, from and after the 1st June, 1910, the fixed red light on Vunaku Point, Island of Koro, will be discontinued.
From the above date there will be shown on Aldin Point, Island of Koro, in latitude 17° 23½′ south, longitude 179° 23′ east, an all-round flashing white light, showing a double flash every ten seconds, being a Chance Bros.’ fourth-order dioptric double-flash revolving light. Opens clear of Bluff Point south of Koro, south 64° west, and clear of north-west point of Koro, south 18° east. When south of north-west point, light visible right down west coast-line of Koro.
The structure in which the new light is placed is a white concrete tower 60 ft. high, the focal plane of the light being 194 ft. above high-water mark.
The light is visible in clear weather from a ship’s deck seventeen miles.

THE following extracts from Notices to Mariners, received from the United States Hydrographic Office, at Washington, are published for general information.

CHINA SEA.
BANKA ISLAND.— EAST COAST.— REEFS REPORTED.— The commander of the Netherlands surveying-vessel “Lombok” gives the following information regarding reefs off the east coast of Banka Island, China Sea:—
A reef about 88 yards in extent, with a least depth of 4 fathoms over it, is located in (approximately) latitude 2° 13′ 37″ S., longitude 106° 28′ 55″ E.
A reef about 66 yards in extent, with a least depth of 4 fathoms over it, is located in (approximately) latitude 2° 13′ 36″ S., longitude 106° 29′ 32″ E.
A reef about 154 yards in extent, with a least depth of 2¼ fathoms over it, is located in (approximately) latitude 2° 15′ 13″ S., longitude 106° 30′ 53″ E.
A reef about 22 yards in extent, with a least depth of 3¾ fathoms over it, is located in (approximately) latitude 2° 15′ 54″ S., longitude 106° 30′ 44″ E.
A reef about 55 yards in extent, with a least depth of 2¾ fathoms over it, is located in (approximately) latitude 2° 16′ 34″ S., longitude 106° 31′ 48″ E.
General Elliot Reef, in (approximately) latitude 2° 03′ 45″ S., longitude 106° 18′ 55″ E., is about 385 yards long, in a north and south (magnetic) direction, and about 165 yards wide, and dries at low water. The black can buoy marking this reef is located 330 yards 183° from it.
A reef about 77 yards in extent, with a least depth of ½ fathom over it, is located in (approximately) latitude 2° 04′ 44″ S., longitude 106° 18′ 37″ E.
A reef about 275 yards long, in a north and south (magnetic) direction and 110 yards wide, with a least depth of 1¼ fathoms over it, is located in (approximately) latitude 2° 04′ 10″ S., longitude 106° 25′ 42″ E.
The two last-mentioned reefs were previously reported in Notice to Mariners No. 7 (347) of 1910.
NOTE.—All of these reefs consist of coral and stone.
WASHINGTON.
PUGET SOUND.—EAGLE HARBOUR RANGE LIGHTS TO BE MOVED.—About 5th March, 1910, the range lights leading into Eagle Harbour, Puget Sound, Washington, will be changed in position. The front light will be moved about 850 ft. 130° and re-established on the edge of the high bank 52 ft. above the water.
The rear light will be moved and re-established 80 ft. above the water 275 ft. 341° from the front light.
Approximate position of front light: Lat. 47° 37′ 30″ N., long. 122° 29′ 52″ W.
NOTE.—After these lights have been moved they will be in the positions shown on C.S. Chart No. 6444.

GRAYS HARBOUR.—WHITCOMB FLATS.— BELL BUOY TO BE ESTABLISHED.— About 15th March, 1910, Whitcomb Flats bell buoy 2B will be established in the entrance to Grays Harbour, Washington, in place of Whitcomb Flats buoy 2B, a first-class nun, which will be discontinued.

CALIFORNIA.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY.— SAN PABLO BAY.— CARQUINEZ STRAIT.—MARE ISLAND STRAIT LIGHT DISCONTINUED.— On account of the establishment of Carquinez Strait light, Mare Island Strait light, Carquinez Strait, San Pablo Bay, California, was permanently discontinued on 15th February, 1910.
Approx. position: Lat. 38° 04′ 16″ N., long. 122° 14′ 34″ W. (See Notice to Mariners Nos. 5 (194) and 7 (318) of 1910.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
NEW HEBRIDES ISLANDS.—EFATE (SANDWICH) ISLAND.— FILA HARBOUR.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.—A fixed green light has been established at the foot of the white cliffs which border the north-west coast of Iririki Island, Fila Harbour, Efate (Sandwich) Island, New Hebrides Islands, 140 yards 241° from the cairn (tomb) at the northern end of the island.
The light is exhibited 16½ ft. above high water, from a white wooden pyramid, and is visible 3 miles.
Approx. position: Lat. 17° 44′ 30″ S., long. 168° 18′ 37″ E.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
LISIANSKY ISLAND.— BREAKERS REPORTED SOUTH-WESTWARD.—The commanding officer of the U.S. revenue-cutter “Thetis” reports that while anchored off Lisiansky Island, North Pacific Ocean, a break was observed, evidently over a submerged rock, on the following bearings:—
Lisiansky Island, north-west tangent, 47°.
Lisiansky Island, south-east tangent, 68°.
Observation-spot, 64°, distant 2½ miles.

Approximate position of observation-spot: Lat. 26° 01′ 22″ N., long. 173° 59′ 15″ W.

OAHU.— HONOLULU HARBOUR ENTRANCE.— BUOY REPLACED BY GAS BUOY.—On 15th February, 1910, entrance gas buoy 1, showing an intermittent white acetylene light every 8 seconds—thus, light 4 seconds, eclipsed 4 seconds—was established at the entrance to Honolulu Harbour, Hawaiian Islands, in place of entrance-buoy 1, a first-class tall-type can, which was discontinued.

OAHU.—HONOLULU HARBOUR.—CHANGE IN LIGHT.—On 15th February, 1910, a fourth-order intermittent white light every 6 seconds—thus, light 4 seconds, eclipsed 2 seconds—was established in a structure recently erected on the eastern side of Sand Island, western side of the channel at the entrance to Honolulu Harbour, Hawaiian Islands.
This light, which will be known as Honolulu Harbour light, will be exhibited 43½ ft. above high water from a black cylindrical lantern surmounting a square concrete tower attached to a concrete keeper’s dwelling with black roof. The light will illuminate the whole horizon, and will be visible twelve miles.
On the same date Honolulu range front light was permanently discontinued, and Honolulu range rear light replaced by a fixed red light, visible from all points within the harbour, to be known as Honolulu Fort Street light.

BLACK BUOY, MOUTH OF WAIRAU RIVER.

THE Wairau Harbour Board has notified that the owners of the s.s. “Blenheim” have placed a large black buoy at the mouth of the Wairau River, a quarter of a mile from the Flag-station, bearing N.W. from Flagstaff.
