purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £500, authorised to be raised by the Okato Road Board, under the above-mentioned Acts, for the purpose of (a) deviating in part or parts the Oxford Road, in the Okato Road District, from its junction with the Saunders Road to the Carrington Road, and forming, grading, culverting, draining, and bridging such part of the Oxford Road when so deviated; and (b) after the construction and completion of the work aforesaid, gravelling or metalling the part of the Oxford Road aforesaid, or such parts thereof, commencing at the Saunders Road, as the balance of the said loan of £500, after payment of the cost of the work described in subparagraph (a) hereof will permit, the said Okato Road Board hereby makes and levies a special rate of 1½d. in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property of the Upper Oxford Road Special Area, comprising Sections 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11, Block XI; Section 12, Block X; Sections 76, 77, 82, 87, 92, 96, 102, and 106, Block VI; and the north-eastern half abutting on the Upper Oxford Road of Sections 75, 86, and 91 of Block VI, and of Sections 13, 14, 95, 100, 101, and 105 of Block X, all Cape Survey District; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of April in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of thirty-six years and a half, or until the loan is fully paid off, and it is intended to pay the first years’ interest and the expenses of raising the said loan out of the loan-money.

Results of Polls for Proposed Loans.

THE following notices, received from the Chairman of the Rangitaiki Drainage Board, are published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.

RANGITAIKI DRAINAGE BOARD.
Notice of Results of Polls on Proposals to Raise Loans.
PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908, I hereby give notice that polls of the ratepayers of portions of the Rangitaiki Drainage District as follows were taken on the 21st day of February, 1910, on the proposals following:—
- To borrow the sum of £2,800 for the construction of certain drains, embankments, and other works, and the repayment to settlers of sums totalling £1,219 15s. 3d. advanced by them in anticipation of this loan and already expended on similar works, all being within a special-rating area made in pursuance of section 3 of the above-named Act, and known as the “Eastern Area,” being a portion of the Tarawera Subdivision of the said drainage district.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 9. The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 5.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
- To borrow the sum of £1,000 for the construction of certain drains and embankments, and the repayment to settlers of a sum of £359 17s. 2d. advanced by them in anticipation of this loan and already expended on similar works, all being within a special-rating area, made as aforesaid, and known as the “Island Area,” being a portion of the Tarawera Subdivision of the said drainage district.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 4. The number of votes recorded against the proposal was nil.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
- To borrow the sum of £500 for the construction of main drain within a special-rating area, made as aforesaid, and known as the “Matata Area,” being a portion of the Matata Subdivision of the said drainage district.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 2. The number of votes recorded against the proposal was nil.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
Also that a poll of the ratepayers of that portion of the said drainage district known as the “Outlet Area,” being a special-rating area made as aforesaid, and comprising portions of the Rangitaiki and Tarawera Subdivisions, was taken on the 28th day of February, 1910, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £5,000 for the diversion of the Rangitaiki River from Warbrick’s Bond to the sea and works appertaining thereto.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 40. The number of votes recorded against the proposal was nil. I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
The local authority proposing to borrow each of the above-named sums is the Rangitaiki Drainage Board.

GONVILLE TOWN BOARD.
Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.
PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Town District of Gonville was taken on the 28th day of April, 1910, on the proposal of the Gonville Town Board to borrow the sum of £10,000 for the purpose of providing extensions of the existing drainage system, and one-half the cost of constructing the main drain on the road adjoining the Borough of Wanganui, extensions of the existing water-supply, acquiring land for the construction of new streets and for the purpose of recreation, acquiring land for the erection of swimming-baths and the erection of such baths, acquiring land for the erection of a public hall and a fire-brigade station and the erection of such hall and fire-brigade station, forming new streets, and general improvements to the existing roads and streets in the Gonville Town District.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 85. The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 14. Informal votes, nil. Total, 99.
As the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll in favour of the proposal exceeds three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll, I hereby declare the proposal carried.

CABLE BUOY.—FLINDERS (WESTERN PORT).
It has been reported that a buoy has been placed to mark the Flinders end of the submarine telegraph cable which connects this State with Tasmania. The position of such buoy is latitude 38° 43′ 45″ south, and longitude 145° 5′ 30″ east.
